Coach Dog
Anyone watch Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel? I love that show. Adam is a nut and he visits some really great places. I see next week's show is in Minneapolis and he will tackle the Juicy Lucy, not sure if this is the challenge though. I'm assuming this takes place at Matt's Bar on Cedar. I'm a big fan of the Juicy Lucy. Groveland Tap over in St. Paul has a great one as well.
Harmonica Bear
Nothing beats a Matt's Juicy Lucy!!!!From the web site:Minneapolis -- Premieres March 25 at 10 E/P* Matt's Bar* Brasa* 5-8 Club* Challenge: The Meterbratwurst at Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit. Adam Richman must finish this meter of grilled German Bratwurst served with sauerkraut.
Jethro80
The nook in St. Paul has some awesome juicy lucy's. The 5 to 8 tavern also has some good burgers. I'll have to try MAtt's burger sometime
Harmonica Bear
You have to try the original. Nothing quite like Matt's nowadays. Great atmosphere, no plates, just your juicy lucy on wax paper and basket of fries. Classic!
UdeLakeTom
Just make sure you heed the warning...those insides are HOT when they come off the grill.
setterguy
I may have to make a run down there soon, haven't had one in a long time.
guideman
I used to live 3 blocks from Matt's and I really miss those Burgers. The 5-8 club was only a couple miles down Cedar ave from my house as well. Both places have an excellent Juicy Lucy, man I really miss them burgers. MMMMMMM! "Ace" Ace guide service. Beautiful Lake Vermilion.

KTapper
Then you need to go there! the fries at awesome too.
Getanet
Matt's Jucy Lucy is awesome. I've never been to the 5-8, so in fairness I should give that a try. I did have a Jucy Lucy at the Buffalo Tap in Burnsville - can't recommend that.I think it takes years of grease build-up on the grill to make a Jucy Lucy taste just right! Harmonica Bear
Thats what we like to call a "perfectly-well-seasoned" grill.I once lived across the street from the 5/8. I thought matts was better by far. For those who haven;t been there, just look up their HSOforum and you might get the idea. There's whole lot going on there. simplicity at its finest. KTapper
I went the the 5/8 club a few months ago, and got a jucy lucy and it did not compare to the Matt's jucy Lucy.
chaffmj
I grew up near the Groveland Tap which used to be The King and I in St. Paul and they had a good Juicy Lucy 30 years ago and it's still not bad. There is another place that opened in St. Paul this fall run by 2 former employees of The Groveland Tap called the Blue Door on Selby near Fairview and they serve several different kinds of Juicy Lucys with all different things inside. I had the one with blue cheese and it was very good. The Nook near Cretin-Derham Hall HS has great burgers not sure if they have a Juicy Lucy but I loved their cheese burgers with fried onions when I was a kid. I did make it to Matt's and I would have to agree with the others. That was a GREAT Juicy Lucy!
KTapper
Yeah I have heard great things about the Nook I just keep forgetting to go there!
goblueM
I went to Macalester, so in the heart of the Nook/Tap area. They are both awesome. The Blue Door is my favorite though - friendly staff, and phenomenal burgers. You won't be dissapointed, even if you are skeptical at a burger that has bleu cheese and peanut butter, or is topped with red currant jelly. I'm going to try to make my own juicy blucy (bleu cheese) tonight with venison burger and bacon. Hopefully it works!
hanson
Haven't had a Juicy Lucy from Matt's yet but have had plenty from the 5-8 Club. If they are better... oh boy, they must be unbelievable as I think the 5-8 Club's Lucy is pretty darn good!
KTapper
This talk is making me so hungry!
PierBridge
Being an expert on the subject... I would have to rate Matts ahead of 5-8. There was a time when the 5-8 was the equal or better of the two but those days have passed IMO! I'm on it Matts Juicy Lucy for dinner it is. Thanks! Finns
Ok, I'll bite . I'm a Scot from Iowa living in Missouri. What is a Juicy Lucy?
goblueM
Oh man, you went to Mac and never had a lucy! Hahah Mizzou huh? I bet they'd have a pretty good debut down there. Its a burger with the cheese cooked on the inside rather than on top. A minnesota original!
hanson
Its a burger with the cheese cooked on the inside rather than on top. A minnesota original! Yeah, the cheese is inside the burger. Mmmmmmm!!!!!Gotta be careful to not shoot yourself in the face. That cheese is hot!

ThunderLund78
My Dad grew up in South Minneapolis in the 50s and early 60s. Matt's was his hang out (St. Mathews as he and his friends called it--my Grandma always thought "those good boys are going to church"). He went in there a few months ago and said the place hasn't changed one bit, right down to the wall paper and most likely the fryer oil - which is a good thing. I have yet to go there but he swears by the Lucy at Matts. the 5-8 Lucys are pretty darn good, and a previous poster said he wasn't pleased with the Buffalo Tap in Savage, but their Parmesan Lucy Patty Melt is the best sandwich I've had in a long time. I think the Parmesan crusted bread is what makes it good though. Matt's is my next stop, I gotta see what the fuss is all about and check out the old man's old hang out
fishyguy
Went to the Blue Door last Saturday and ordered the Jiffy Burger - Bacon, Cheese and Peanut Butter. Very good but not as good as I had heard. I still prefer the Nook but judging by the crowd at the Blue Door they have a strong following. Line was 15 deep and out the door at 12:00.
