He ended up with 8 crappies all nice fish as well as 3 perch and 4 nice gills. For not knowing where to go and just winging it he did pretty good. cRaPpiEMaN8265
Cool I bet that lake is dead next year due to how much pressure it is getting this year. Thats ok thpugh because i still dont think there is a bad panfish lake in the county!I am headed up tomorrow afternoon to fish a few smaller lakes..Later,Ryan
OLY
clam lake has been pounded for over a decade and it keeps putting out fish year after year. It is a very large featurless fertile lake and I dont think it has any problem handling the pressure it gets.
vman59
hows the ice? can you still get on the lake?
vman59
well went up to Clam and did pretty good but i think this was the last ice fishing for the year. Shoreline has totally gone away. I suppose if you have waders you could get to the ice, lord knows there is still a good 25 inch's out there.
OLY
Made it out on clam on saturday afternoon from 2-6pm, caught about 50-60 fish between the 2 of us threw most of them back. The bluegill bite was pretty tough, but if you came across a school of crappies you could catch 5-6 real quick from a hole. Nothing very big a couple in the 11 inch range. Plenty of ice but you will need hip waders to get out there from now on.
cRaPpiEMaN8265
Bite was good last weekend. I got up there Friday and fished through sunday keeping 20 on Friday thru saturday for a meal all at 8"s I tried to put back the real big one 8.5"s and above. Here is the big one of the weekend 8.75" CPR!
vman59
hows the ice?can you get out?
cRaPpiEMaN8265
should be able to make it out yet on most of the bigger deeper lakes where the ice holds better or if the access is on any side except for the north end...Snow may make it tricky this weekend though and you wont be able to see the bad spots as easily as without it. I wish it would just be 70 degrees and no ice now! Minnesota/ Wisconsin change too much. Now a Winter storm warning and like 36 for a high this weekend both days! Ridiculous! Its April! cRaPpiEMaN8265
Ice was out at my cabin even on the biggest lakes in the Siren area. Very windy though. We only put th pontoon and the dock in because out fishing boat currently has a leak but we think it is just a cracked livewell line. Anyway I did some fishing in the pontoon with no trolling motor and 20-30MPH winds! found most of the fish to be on the windy side of the lake(figures) no crappies but i did get about 25 bass on Sunday. I was throwing a terminator spinnerbait mixed colors red white and blue i think. Got one really nice one near 20"s Seems like a lot of he fish are very skittish. I had a lot of bass and northern follows and usually i would hook them right next to the boat. I even got a few bass doing a fast figure 8! I will post some pics of the big gal when i get home. Also I got my crappie mount back from Kemps Taxidermy in Siren and it looks awesome! He did a great job with low costs (200 for the 17" crappie on a table mount with driftwood and all) I will posts some of the mount later too. Here are the pictures: First bass of 08 a small one... Nice 4 or 5 lber on the terminator Spinnerbait, those baits are indestructible. The 17" crappie mount! We went with a table mount on this one and it looks great. Special thanks to Kemps Taxidermy Holding it proudly! Later, Ryan

snoozebutton
Just starting but not enough to get on yet. I'm hoping to get out Friday on a small bay that usually freezes early. The flowage right in Spooner was completely iced up but no one was on it yet. I'll bet they'll be out there tomorrow.
tims
I had 4"-5" on a few of the smaller shallow lakes as of today. Deeper clear water lakes are not ready for the most part.
LoonASea
I just checked the "satelite" link from the Upper Red Lake forum and it didnt look like there was any ice on Yellow Lake except for some around shore on the south end LAS
snoozebutton
I drove by Shell Lake this morning and the middle was still open with a ton of ducks and geese out there. I've been out on the Chippewa Flowage for a week now (4 to 6 inches) and my son in law was heading out to Middle McKenzie this afternoon. His friend said there was 3 1/2 to 5 inches out there. Luck e 1
On Saturday I had 2.5 to 5 inches on a smaller lake (about 250-300 acres). Had a spud bar with me and ice picks for safety. A couple times the bar went through on my second jab...and I would quickly turn around.
Luck e 1
Was out Saturday near Webster on a small lake about 250-300 acres. 2.5 to 5 inches. With the warmer temps during mid day you could tell the ice softened a little. Still be really careful as the ice wasn't frozen in equal depths. Some places that you would swear should have 5 had 2.5 and the spud bar went throught on second hit. Only one keeper crappie
cRaPpiEMaN8265
Headed up on the 19th and plan on taking the snowmobile on many lakes in the area wondering how the ice is? I would think there would be 10-12" by now and we got some good snow today I heard which is perfect for the snowmobile.Any fishing reports? Thanks,Ryan
snoozebutton
I'd say all the smaller lakes should be good, I had 22 below this morning.

snoozebutton
Yeah, I'd still be careful. We were out on LCO yesterday and ran into some slush with some spots of pretty thin ice, 1 inch of ice, 4 inches of water, then 3 to 4 inches of ice.
