solbes
Wow, was that some cold weather right on the ocean. The crew really looked miserable. And the "no legged" crabs didn't look too happy either.Sig was somehow able to get into harbor to unload. Noticed he was back on the cigs again. Guess it's pretty hard to quit out on the water.Interesting that fishing on the ocean isn't much different than fresh water. If someone's fishing right on top of you, people get pretty upset. Iron Cowboy
that after the catch show on right after really shows how they try to manufacture the drama with Captain Phil and Kieth fighting and calling each other names and then are drinking and laughing sitting at the table. pinkfloyd4ever
Yes, I tuned into that just to see what each guy would say about the other but nothing other than laughing at each others comments. I agree some with the added drama as when Sig first pulled to the harbor the harbor master says its closed, so then 3 days later or whatever Sig decides he's going in. I was wondering if wouldn't the harbor have some sort of ice breaking ship there to prevent that? I would think they want the crab just as much as the captains want to off load them. Good ol' Sig and the Cigs, he made it about what 3 hours?
solbes
Yup, 3 hours. What will power! I did get a kick out of how crabby he was.I question why they don't have an ice breaker available also. Expensive for upkeep, but I agree the cannery and crab receiving company loses out too if all the crab die sitting just outside the harbor. Duluth, MN has one. I can't believe it's too hard for Alaska to have one also.

I still drink beer with some people who have ticked me off by dropping in on my spots before. There's always two sides to a story and when they were capturing the comments it was when each just found out the pots were close. They didn't have a chance yet to hear any explanations. That being said, I don't think those two really click that well anyway. I didn't see Phil out there learning to surf with the Bumble Bee. Sandmannd
Who watched this week. I just caught up on it today. I don't blame Phil for being PO'd at Keith. What a dolt. Why would you set pots right on top of another boats? This season, he'showing he's kind of a moron. With the tarp thing and now this.
solbes
That tarp thing was the dumbest thing I've seen on that show. Keith is okay. He's had a rough year. Remember when he went down to see what was catching under his boat and got nailed in the head by a gazillion ton fishing vessel?
LOTWSvirgin
Well Kieth didnt lay them pots his brother did. He is really just haveing a bad year like others have said. It did seem to me on the show after the catch Kieth was trying to be friendly to phil but didnt seem like phil was paying much attention to kieth reminesing sp?? about there past
Pickelfarmer
WOW the whole Jake thing really floored me. That would really be a hard pill to swallow. I think he handled it top knotch. I know that most look at this show as a drama (As well it should be) but I really don't think that you could creat this kind of drama while trying to do this job. I have begged my wife for just a chance to try this for just one year to check it out!!!!!!!!! She tells me to get a life Although I agree with her, it still would be something very neat to do.. solbes
I think it's neat to watch from my cool basement in a leather couch with a beer. Not so much actually being on one of those vesesls in -20F weather with rolling seas. I'd probably be seasick for the first week anyway. My wife didn't say I should get a life, just that this show is pathetic. She said it was the same thing over and over and over again. I have to agree a little bit, but I love to watch it just the same.Too bad for Jake. He seems like a really good egg. Also shows the captain and crew of the Northwestern are good guys as well.I thought it was funny how Russel has completely given up. He's going to be the odd man out at the end of the season, and he know's it. He keeps going in the sauna just to P/O the Hillstrands. pinkfloyd4ever
On Russell Capt Andy or Jonathon really should go down there and chew him out for being like that, or the deckhands police it themselves, guy was being a gloating jerk. The Jake thing floored me, and the way Sig and the crew were to him was awesome especially at the end when Sig said he's got a job next year and Edgar telling him they'd rather work 4 man than hire a replacement. I hear ya on the added drama part but Sig or Nick did tell the camera guy that they ain't filming it which was cool. Capt of the Wizard can't make a complete crew to save his life, any greenhorn he gets never works out for him. Glad he told that kid to just stick it and stay inside. bschmitty83
I agree that the drama we saw this week was real life and not the overdramatized stuff we see occasionally on the show. I really felt for Jake, that must have been some tough news to swallow. Kudos to Sig and the rest of the crew for how they handled it. They work their butts off, get ticked off at each other every now and then, but when it comes down to something like this it's obvious that they do care. I think that's what makes them one of the best boats out there. Great stuff.

Ralph Wiggum
I missed it......what happended to Jake???? Spoiler alert...His older sister, who he was really close to, passed away. It sounded as if she had some lifelong medical issues, but they didn't go into details. Sig took him in so he could be with his family. JacobMHD
Sorry to hear that. Initially, I thought he quit or something.
Ralph Wiggum
Sorry to hear that. Initially, I thought he quit or something. Nope, he'll be back. Sig made it clear that he's got a spot when he's ready to fish.
Sandmannd
Just watched it last night. That was unbelievable and Jake manned up with it. Didn't know Nick was his uncle, guess that's how he got on that boat. He has been a hard worker since he hit that boat and deserves their respect. I think Sig showed what a true captain is. He is toubh on his guys, but it's for their safety as well. But when he comes down to it, he does care about them. It was a great show. Sandmannd
Last night was a pretty good show. Looks like next week with the storm coming, is going to be He11 out there. Didn't take Russel long to get anther job and it was good of the Time Bandit to call and see if they could get him on a ship. The thing I was wondering is the Wizard was in port already, whey would he head out before the storm to drop pots? Why not wait out the storm first? Could it be the third bone-head move by Keith? pinkfloyd4ever
I think bad judgment on capt keith too. I doubt Russell will pull his stunts on the wizard at least not on the first trip. Wow did Capt Jonathon snap out there on Mike! Wonder if off camera though they planned it out to mess with him, on that one, I figured it was going to be a bait and switch, make you think its Mike but will be Russell. On Northwestern- they say "4 man crew" who is the 4th guy? Edgar, Nick and Matt and sig at the wheel, so who is #4? Maybe he just doesn't want his face shown? By the way, a few weeks ago, did anyone see Cap Andy on Tonight Show with Conan? I thought he got a junk interview, maybe 5 minutes and most of it was Conan making pirate noises and trying to learn the crab dance
Jethro80
There is a silent brother on the boat. I can't remember his name but it seems he isn't too thrilled to have cameras on board
Double D
Norman is the silent brother's name.Did anybody else think that Discovery Channel might have given a little help getting that Russell guy on another show boat that fast?DD
Wanderer
Maybe, but Russel is an experienced crabber and Keith needed a proven deck hand to finish the season. Russ just wasn't cutting it as a team player on the Time Bandit anymore. Odd man out but still able to do the job. I thought it was funny when Russ and Keith were deal making and Russ was prodding for a spot for next year's runs and reached out to shake Keith's hand. Keith had none of it and just said "Let's see how this trip goes".
Sandmannd
I doubt Discovery had a lot to do with it. Johnathan calling had more to do with it. Russ slacked on the time bandit but still better than the Green Horns Keith has had in the past.
Pickelfarmer
It kind of sounded like from keith that Russ had asked for a job in the past??? It was cool how Excited Keith seemed when Russ came aboard. I guess with all the stuff he put up with from all the green horns he felt pretty good knowing he has a guy that will do the job and has proven it in the past. It sure looks like its going to be a great show next week. I can't beleave its already over Seems like just yesterday I was reading the original post wondering when it starts... Oh well. Its a good show and fun to watch. On a side note, I know its been asked here before but what ever happened to that kid Blake from a few years back. Does anyone know?
