So anyone else out there still chasing their big guy around the woods?? I have three that I am after. Only seen them twice during light and they did survive the shotgubn season with very little pressure on the boardering properties. I have a feeling about this weekend grin.gif

I have not found a good recipe for the unused buck tags yet, so if anyone has one, please pass along.

Ditto here. I have a Brute in the area and have seen him twice so far. I will take a doe or buck as it will be my first ever. I just Bow hunt so I know it takes time to learn things and my teacher (me) is not that good.

hope to harvest a trophy (buck or doe) soon...

I'm still chasing Mr. buck with my bow. I have many hours put in my deer stands and still can't get one to even show himself. There is a really respectable 10ptr, 11pter with a split browtine behind the house I just can't get him to show up during any daylight hours. Have him all within a 20-40 acre area and he's very illusive. My cuddy back is my only life line that proves that I'm not insane and am still chasing a buck. Other than taking a doe-yearly during rifle season I have passed on several does in September and just can't see any sighting of antlers. Been working the scents, decoys, calls, and cans and still no response. So I just want to get my first buck with a bow in a really bad way so I can move onto ice fishing.

(D) I'm ALMOST getting to that point of letting him take care of the ladies and spread his genetics but unfortunetly the deer migrate out of our area yearly and I may not see him ever again. I am surprised that he made it through the rifle season because a few (Contact Us Please) do push the woods behind the house. Maybe now with all the housing developement they finally have a contience and think its unsafe to be hunting with guns that close to homes. Eitherway I'm very frustrated. I work with VERY good bow hunters that know there stuff and even they are not sure what to do other than the agressive rattling, grunt, and can calling should get him moving.

From this I have learned more than I could ever imagine and really have allot of respect for the Bow Hunters with late season kills. Though the rut is one the time the big boys still don't come out and play until after dark. Tonight I'm going to give my decoy another try with a doe tail from my deer earlier in the year. I also have doe glands from my brothers doe that was in heat and that should help. The wind is also in my favor to carry my decoys scent right into his lap (I think I know were he's bedding) and just hope I have my own scent under control.

If I can't get him in the evening I might have to start the morning approach.

Also still chasing. Will hunt Zone 1 this last weekend for firearms and then take a couple of weeks off until December and see if I can find a standing corn field around. All the corn in my area has been cut si I will have to venture somewhere else to find it. Been 3 years since I took a buck(7pt) and since then I told myself 8pts or bigger from now on. Passed on a couple forks and a sixer early bow season. Hope it pays off soon. I just tell myself have some patience and Mr. big will show up some day.

I will be chasin one I saw a little over a week ago, I might go out tomorrow with my rifle but then it will be muzzleloader for me the rest of the year. My bow has been making a funny noise and I haven't been practicing for almost a month now since I shot a doe the week before rifle season.

Me too.....passed numerous small bucks with the bow and shotgun so far, so it's muzzy season then late archery yet, if I don't punch it this year, oh well. I know of 5 bucks (at least before gun season...) worthy of tagging in my area so hope is not lost yet! cool.gifcool.gif

dont know if ya want to call it "Chasing" for me. I cant even pattern deer, so Im just trying to get a good spot for late bowhunting. It would be nice to finally get a deer with it. Better yet, it would be nice to just shoot ONE decent buck period.

I have been watching a few real nice bucks for a month or so but could never get close enough with the bow. The last few weekends I have again looked for them again and saw them but did not have a shot that was worth taking. Yesterday afternoon a nice 8 pointer was after two does and he went down.

The super bucks will have another year if old man winter doesnt get them.

Harvey,

what kind of strategy should I take for bow hunting from now until the end of the season? Ive never hunted with a bow after rifle, but Im so sick of getting skunked in the past years, Im determined to still get one.

With the primary rut going on at this time, the bucks will run very hard till the end of it. I would really concentrate on looking for good food sources and hunt those spots as these bucks will need to put the feed bag on to make it through the winter.

There will also be another rut period sometime in December when you again will have the opportunity to catch one rutting again. The does will be near those food sources also so my plan of attach would be to work an area between their bedding area and the best food source around.

Yes, not hunting horns all that hard anymore, nor hunting all that hard period, but would still like to shoot another deer or two. Looking forward to getting out a few times with the ML. The deer are still moving. I saw deer almost every day last week without hunting. Saw a doe on my way into work this morning.
