Favorite fish

I was wondering what your favorite fish to catch through the ice is, and the biggest of that species caught through the ice. Mine favorite fish are walleyes and northerns. Northerns during the day and walleyes at night. Biggest northern through the ice is about 7 lbs., biggest walleye 9 lbs.

My favorite fish to catch is crappies and w.eyes. Biggest crappie 14", 1.9lbs, biggest eye 27", 7.10lbs.

Pike on Tipups. My biggest one is 41 inches 20 lbs shown in my avatar. My second favorite is crappies. Biggest one being 14 inches.

I like to fish any fish through the ice.Hands down my favorite would be pannies.

Lake Trout, hands down. Challenging, exciting, and they hit and fight like no other fish through the ice. Oh yeah, they taste pretty good too.

My all time favorite is Blk Crappies. Biggest one was 15 3/4 inches, not sure on weight, he was a CPR. Secondly is Pike on tip-ups. Biggest is 16lbs caught on Lake Poygan.

Fishing in waters that hold huge gator's is probably my all-time favorite. After the work of setting those tip-ups is completed, it's then time to sit back and wait for a flag. There's something special about seeing that flag rise up, to me the anticipation of a big gator being landed is awesome.

Besides huge 'eyes, Lake Winnipeg is also a factory for gator's, big gator's and I have several locations that need some serious attention in the weeks to come!

crappies are my fav 4sure, biggest was 14" or so, although i've never caught an eye through the ice, i defanatly wanna get on a good walleye lake this winter, ain't to many of them down here (rochester)

trout. I haven't caught too many monsters through the ice; nothing much over 16-17", with the majority of them being around 14".

I haven't gotten to fish lakers through the ice yet, but hopefully that will change this winter.

crappies are a distant second. Biggest slab through the ice here in DL is a 12.5". I've found some good spots here this summer, with fish breaking the 15" mark; I'll have to fish them this winter.

To be perfectly honest, I don't really have a favorite through the ice although I'm 'generally' targeting walleyes, crappies, gills, and cats. Doh, tip-up pike are a blast as well!

So lets see here...

Northern - 40" & 20lbs

Walleye - 28"

Crappie - 14 3/4"

Bluegill - 10"

Catfish - 10lbs!!!

Them darn Bass are bait & lure stealers when panfishing. But it is kind of fun to hook a hog and an UL rod with 2lb line and seeing how long it takes for him to snap you off!

Its to bad that a guy cannot catch a flathead through the ice.Now,that would be a fight.I dont believe you could even find gear for a fight like that.

One might have to call Matt at Throne Bros to see if they could make a guy one.

With big ol bluegills a very close second. I very rarelt target either of these on opne water, so I like the change of pace during winter.

From what I've heard, It would be like pulling a log off of the bottom. They are pretty lethargic so I'm not sure how excited I could get about that.

However, I don't think a 40 pounder would be coming up through an 8" hole so that would be pretty dang cool!

Here is how it goes down for me with species and biggest caught:

#1 hands down: Darkhouse Spearing gators 37"

1) Walleyes 30.5"

2) Jumbo Perch 13.5"

3) Big Gators (tip ups and dead-sticking) 35"

4) Slab Crappies 16"

Come on Ice!!!
