CodyDawg
I would get that to the DNR, I bet they would want to see that and you would get good info as to what it is. Yuck.
David Frank
I would also recommend contacting the DNR about this one. They would definately like to take a look at that and do a little more investigating.Dave Frank
perchking
I saw that pic last year it was going around in some forwards, I think it came from Ohio.

lcornice
Quote:I would also recommend contacting the DNR about this one. They would definately like to take a look at that and do a little more investigating.Dave Frank It's called cutaneous fibroma and is basically a viral skin wart that's likely spread by a biting fly. It's in the same general class as human skin warts. You often see one here or there but it's rare to get them that badly. While they're ugly, they are not contagious to humans. Unless the deer has a secondary bacterial infection (really rare), the carcass should be fit for consumption. Since they don't attach to meat, they'll come off with the skin. David Frank
Thanks for the insight. Even so, I would be a little skeptical about eating that deer. Just my opinion. Don't know if I could get the thought of what it looked like before being steaks on my plate!Dave Frank
lcornice
I should have qualified my answer. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't eat one that looked like that. However, I wouldn't hesitate to eat one that had a few of them. They're typically found around the head and neck and do come off with the hide. BigWadeS
I don't know if I would even pull the trigger...say you do harvest an animal like that and report it to the DNR, would they give you another tag to use on a healthy animal?

I suppose the arrow or bullet bothered him more...
