Lake Cenaiko Thread

The regulations state that fishing hours for stream trout on inland waters are from one hour before sunrise to 11 pm. Sunrise on the 15th is 7:48 so we should be all good to catch some trouts at 6:48.

Well it turns out when I said the park opened at 9 I was talking about the half on side of the river that Cenaiko isn't on. It actually opens at 10 on Fridays on the side with Cenaiko. I was going to call to see if they will be opening the gates early and if so, how early but it looks like the Visitor's Center is closed Monday-Thursday. Unless somebody is able to tell me otherwise I guess I'll need to just show up at 6 if not earlier and wait for the gates to open.

In the past, the gates opened at 6:00 am. One year, the gate person did'nt show up until 7:30 am, and was "boo'ed" all the way up to the gate. Seeing that "walk" of shame was pretty funny.

Well it sounds like I'm going to be there before 6 then so I can get in early and set up before the season starts

As I sit at the laptop, I can see from my window,a steady stream of headlights of the cars heading to the lake (my house overlooks the dam and river area), wish I could be down there, but some of us, cannot get the day off! Would love to see, any pictures of your time on the water! Tight Lines!

Does this lake get pounded pretty good during the week too? If I can I'd love to get out there on monday or wednesday and shake off the trout rust before I head up north next week.

It's a put and take lake, so the best fishing is that very first morning right at the start. It gets pounded really good opening morning and then both the catch rate and the fishing pressure taper off dramatically. During the week it is usually not that busy, although it's hard to tell what Monday will be like seeing that some people have the day off (MLK Day).

Also jb, you're not gonna shake much rust off. These are farm fish and they act like it. They'll eat most anything in front of them if they're hungry, and they fight like a really active can of soup.

I was out there today and I got my only fish in 5 feet of water. This was my first time there and it was pretty fun. A little crowded, but it was fun watching other people catch even if they didn't want my bait .

fishuhalik, that's funny stuff however, an active "can of soup" is still alot funner than a wet sock (walleye).

Hmm, I forgot monday is MLK day. I guess I'll shoot for wednesday then.

I got a 14" in 30 feet with the fish at 20. It did but up a good fight. Had others nibble but not on! There were a lot less people there today versus yesterday. I think Monday would be fine.

645 to 1030 AM today. Marked several fish in 30' water. No takers. Out of 30+ people on the lake during this period one person managed a 5" crappie. I guess I will be one of the other 500 people who arrives opening morning next year.

Also just got back, literally like 10 minutes ago from the lake. Fished the beach area and marked a couple but no bites. I can't believe its been fished out in 2 days. thats nuts!

or they have been hooked i released 3 fish on friday and took home 3

I don't think it's been fished out but they have been seeing an awful lot of pressure. I would think that this upcoming weekend they might be a little more willing to bite after having a relative lull during the week.

Most fish the initial break. A few go for the main basin.

Was my 1st time ever out there today, 9:30 to 2:00. Only caught 1 little sunfish There was about 30 people out there when I got there, but by afternoon I was 1 of only about 5 people. I fished both sides of the lake from 4 to 30 ft and all I could find was a pod of tight lipped sunnies in 1 hole, and what I do believe was a trout half way down in the middle of the lake.

I realize this lake gets pounded the first weekend, but does it get fished out? Or will it just take a few days for the trout to snap out of their shell shock from all the noise and activity on opening weekend? Maybe next year I'll wait a few more days into the season.

Good chance it was mostly fished out. They put around 1500 fish in during the fall, not all of them survive, and when ya figure there's probably 500+ people out there during the first couple of days, it don't take long.
