THANK YOU ALL!

I wanted to express my thanks and gratitude to all at the Sturgeon Excursion that helped me get to the hospital on Saturday night.

I have had back trouble for a few years; it just came to a head after fighting that sturgeon.

I have three severely herniated discs and I managed to fragment or tear a chunk off of one that pushed up against the nerves in my spine creating extreme muscle spasms and the loss of muscle control in my lower extremities. In sense I was not only in some pretty nasty pain I was also semi-paralyzed leaving me stuck and unable to move under my own power. If I wouldn’t have made it to the hospital when I did I could have lost all the nerve control going to my legs. Thanks to all of you the medical staff at the Baudette hospital was able to stabilize me and prevent this.

I’m not really sure what took place around me but I did hear that a picnic table was taken apart, a stretcher was conjured up from something around the place, the door of the cabin was removed and a whirlwind of guys all did everything they could do to help me out.

I can not thank all of you enough for what you did. I don’t really know the whole the story of what was done by who but I do know that you all dropped everything you were doing and did everything you could for me.

I cannot thank you all enough.

I am truly surrounded by a group of outstanding sportsmen and friends that go by the simple name of Fishing Minnesota.

Oh by the way Paul W., I promise to never pick on you again for having to much packed in your truck during these trips. wink.gif

Jon, I hope you are feeling better. I heard about this later that night when you were going to the hospital. I can somewhat understand some of the pain (have had back issues with severe pain), but not that extreme. frown.gif

Take care of yourself and hope to see you on the water again.

I kind of have a bad back from working at UPS when in college and once or twice a year my back will hurt so bad i cant even get out of bed. But i have found that if i do stretches b4 i go to bed and when i wake up helps a lot!! so give that a try. if you want i can send you which stretches to do.

I think 3 herniated discs and one fractured disc is a little beyond simple stretching.

Hope your recovery is as swift as possible. Sounds like there were a number of avid MacGyver fans around you this weekend trying to figure out ways to rig stuff up to help. Nice job guys.

I had two herniated disks my junior year of high school, from lifting weights, and I did all the treatments short of surgery and the one thing that fixed it almost completly was this traction device at a clinic in Champlin. It streatches your back in such a way the the disk sucks all that herniated stuff back into it. I had to go every week for two months but havent had it "go out" or re-herniate since. That was about 10 years ago. You may want to look into that. It was the only one of its kind in Minnesota when I did it but like I said that was 10 years ago.

Cant remember the name of the place but I do remember where it is.

Jon,

I hope your doing better and will continue to make progress. Sounds like a pretty scary experience. Hats off to those around you, I like the MacGyver analogy from nofishfisherman, for taking a hold of the situation.

I'll be happy to ride along with you and do all the heavy work this summer chasing muskies!!

Take care,

Chris

Jon,

Good to hear that you made it home and feeling a little better. You kind of scared the %^*(&&$% out of us there. Total team effort on everyone's part, including the group from Duluth that was staying in the cabin above us. Not once did they question what was going on.....they did everything that was asked of them and as fast as they possible could including trucks and trailers out of the way.

Jon, If you stopped picking on me, I would think that you didn't love me anymore. blush.gif

Im not saying that just stretching is going to miraculously cure his back problem and make it all new again. It will help strengthen his back muscles which as well as his abs. By strengthening those muscles he will be putting less strain on his back so it will not happen as often. Plus stretching right b4 bed helps relax the muscles and increase blood flow to help regeneration from standing all day which helps you sleep better too.

Jon, hope that all is going well for you! I know the pain and suffering that you are going thru! My wife had that same problem! She did herself in the last time grabbing a gallon of milk out of the fridge. She has had surgery on her back and neck and is now 100% better. Hope that all heals for you! It is one of those tests of a true relationship when a person has that happen... cuz when that happens a person can not reach behind them very well. I'll leave it at that. Take care and God speed in your recovery. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

The hospital in Baudette is pretty good! In 04 I went there the night before we left to come home, my back hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. They just kind of looked at me and said bulged disc, gave me some Vicoden and sent me on my way. I wasn't awake for more than 20 min at a time from Baudette to Fairbault! Of coarse I only slept 2hrs the night before. grin.gif
