Bobby Bass
Will the price of gas this fall make any difference in the way you spend your fall? For me I am getting out as much as I can and I try very hard not to comment when I buy gas for the poor sales clerk who must spend the entire day listening to people complain. I do try to leave a little early on my fishing trips and drive a little slower to conserve. I still am the last one on the lake so I can't stay any longer No birds up here so I will not be chasing grouse this fall but if you do hunt what will you do? Northlander
I know I wont be traveling too far. When I do travel a ways it wont be nearly as often. Luckily I have great fishing 5 minutes from my house.
Ole1855
My hunting shack is 180 miles away, bow hunting starts in a few weeks, I will probably be doing almost as much as usually do, but I will car pool with my partner. Where in years past we can't seem to get on the same schedule, this year we'll have to.Ole
rundrave
I dont know if will effect how often I go, but it will definately change, the solo trips, or at least I think we will be trying to take a few less rigs out.As a pain car pooling can be with gear, dogs, guns, decoys, or whatever it may be etc... doubling up a few vehicles will probably work to our advantage, as far as saving on gas. Eric Wettschreck
I'm pretty lucky as there is good hunting and fishing right in my backyard, or within walking distance. Gas prices won't change that.
mtreno
still going to make all the trips. will not be 5 full size trucks parked at the farmhouse for 6 guys. may even try to get everything into the car - ouch! just the cost of the hobby i guess. Mark Christianson
On solo trips I know I will be driving the Toyota Paseo..... Cripes. I hope I dont shoot da turty point buck when I have the car... Its gonna hurt, but I didnt put all the work into the family farm the last few years, not to be able to go up and enjoy it! Dennis Steele
It all depends on my buddies... If they start pitching in for gas, then heck, I'd be better off than when the gas prices were cheaper!
ChuckN
Yep, more hunting around home. Dang nabbit. No need to worry BLB, drive that econ car all ya want. I'll haul all the duck gear for ya this year as long as you take care of the hunting spots!! I like that arrangement!
cheektowaga
I agree with Steele, it's 198 miles up to the lake for me one way and the passangers are going to have to start pitching in.As far as the number of trips, I won't let gas prices affect that, that's living! I'd rather trim a few other weekly expenditures and keep the trips north to a maximum.
anchor man
We're still planning to make our trip up to Lac Seul in a couple weeks. That's a lot of gas for vehicles and we boat in about 100 gals of gas for our boats. Better bring a few more bucks this year
Pherris
I was looking at my petroleum based product purchases and last week in one day I spent $295 - $65 to fill the truck - 4 gallons of Opti-max oil = $100 and $130 to fill the boat. To make matters worse I will be fishing in a 3 day tourney out of Sioux Narrows LOW and can only imagine what gas will run in Canada in addition to the customary price increase we always see on holiday weekends. I think I may have start to pay more attention to what is going on in the "Shore Fishing" forum. It wont really change anything other then the amount of money I have in my wallet
The Grebe
I guess the free loaders will have to start contributing their fair share for gas costs...I think the free ride thing is quickly becomming a thing of the past...as long as these and maybe higher yet gas prices hold up!That and try to cut out some of the lesser trips and maybe some of the exploratory trips to new lakes that are out there a ways.Instead of the 100 or so trips a year, maybe I'll only do 75 and get some work done around the house? This is just a guess, I don't keep track, but I fish alot and 100 seems like alot (been fishing 3 times in the last 4 days) maybe I fish less maybe more, but I'll make a conscious effort to cut down a little.Did'nt get out hunting much last year and it will probably be less this year, 2-3 trips for Grouse, 2-3 trips for Pheasants and thats it.Among a few other things, the above is my way of conserving and it certainly is'nt carved in stone, there is always room for adjustment, whatever is required! Captain B.R.K
I don't consider myself "a free rider" or nor do I think of that of my friends. If one of my buddy's drives one time, then I'll take my turn the next time so it all evens out.Moving to St.Cloud I am pretty close to my hunting spots as well as my fishing spots. HAD I still been in Duluth.....then I'd be complaining a bit more. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch my gas meter as well as the gas funds when the end of the month comes around. CatManLee
I am definetly fishing less by myself, but if splitting expenses then I can go (so says the wife ) But when you're on a budget, a guy needs to do a little less driving, so yah it definetly affects what I do. Mark Christianson
The news just said gas in Maple Grove is at $3.15 a gallon tonight at some locations..... Where does it stop? I'd be lying if I said that it isn't going to impact how often I travel, even if I drive the rice burner. This is just crazy. Its getting a bit more than just concerning.... Will it ever go back down? It doesnt seem in past history that once it hits a new high, that it goes back to previous levels. Will it ever go back to where it was? Nobody knows, but history isnt on our side on this one for the most part.
Paul Waldowski
BLB,The highest price I could find around the metro was 2.69. Would be a huge trip killer if it went over 3.

Animal
I just got back from a trip just north of Kenora, Ont. I kept track of the gas purchases. Duluth area 2.59 gal. I-Falls 2.71 gal. Canada 1.05 liter. Excahange 1.16 Ca for US $. That put Canadian gas at about $3.75 US give or take a few cents. Boat gas 40 gals at the US price of $2.59 = $103. Gas for truck, camper, pulling boat, 10 mpg. 660 miles =$195. Total $298 We also got ser-charged $10 per night at the campground for the cost of fuel to run the resort's generator. So add another $40. Lucky I get to split the cost of the fuel two ways. I'm leaving for Ignace, Ont. on Friday. AUUUUGGGGG!It may make a difference sooner or later. Especially when the ice fishing season starts and I start making trips to LOW every other weekend. Just wait for those heating bills and add that to the cost of gas. Biggestfish
I don't see it changing how many trips I take this fall. I do make less trips into town as I used to and try to spend days off working on those small projests around the house that never seem to get done. BigDaddy
I have two trucks and both have the Hemi. Either way I'm SOL on saving gas.I wonder how a motorcycle with sidecar for the dog would work. I could get an ATV scabbard for the gun. Picture a KLR with dog in sidecar heading to SD in December. Die Hard!
subzero
The cost of gas won't effect my plans for this year but next year the trips will probably be closer to home with fewer long trips. I see the effect to resorts as huge following this winter and maybe even this winter will be effected.
mtreno
well i just gased up dads motorhome. 74.4 gallons @ 2.64 a gal = $196.42. good thing it gets 7 miles a gal or else i would not get to fill it up for the ride home monday night.
Bubbadust
I don't think it will make a difference to me. I'll just the bite the bullet and keep enjoying the outdoors.
