Bobby Bass
Looking over some posts here I thought to myself that I have not seen anything about any unusual catches made this year so I thought I would share one of mine. Friday night I was fishing a small little pothole up on the range when I tied into a solid set with a rattletrap, thought I had a real keeper here, but it felt just like a dead weight on the end of my line, not a snag as it was coming in. After pumpin the rod a few times I knew it was not a fish but up pops a dead beaver! ...The smell kept me from getting my lure, I just cut the line and let her sink.. What is your unusual catch? Outdoors_guy
Well I guess this might be a little different but I didn't catch it with a fishing pole but the anchor. I was pulling up the anchor really slow because it was really heavy. So i was thinking i just have a dump pile of weeds on it. Arms are starting to get tired because it is super heavy and finally get it to the surface to see a tire that would fit on a full size truck. First time i have ever caught a Tire. friendlyfisher
For me it was a fish that was very unusual. I was boating with my family and inlaws when I decided to do a litle bass fishing. They were in a ski boat and I had them drop me off with waders on so I could cast around some docks and such. When I caught a 2.5lb bass I wanted to keep it so I could show my son and then release it. Well I was not very bright and i had no stringer with. So I broke off some of my line put it through the gills, tied a not and tried to tie it onto my waders. Well, you guessed it. The bass got away with about 4 foot of line hanging out of its gills. Later that week I was back in the same area fishing the docks with a buddy. Guess what I caught? A bass with about 4 foot of line hanging out of its gills. I removed my hook and bit the other line from before and off he went.
TonkaBass
I was dock fishing once on East Battle Lake and caught a 15" bass with a tree swallow in it's throat. I knew it was fat when I was bringing it in, but never thought to see a pair a bird feet and a tail sticking out of its mouth.
OnTheWater
Maybe I'll start throwing one of these.
Scoot
My story is the same as Outdoors_Guy's- pulling up the anchor. Except I landed a very nice cash register. We figured somebody had emptied it and dumped off the bridge a hundreds yards upstream.
nthomps66
Not my story but... Setterguy's father was fishing on Mille Lacs this past weekend with his brother. The brother hooked into something he though was nice fish but he wasn't sure if it was pulling back or not. Got it to the boat and pulled in a G Loomis rod with a nice reel. On the Loomis was a nice walleye! Are you kidding me?
Swimmer
Lost my favorite Depth Raider trolling to a huge fish that would pull then jerk. Finally she snapped my power pro. So bought another identicle depth raider. Trolled the same area two weeks later in about 23' of water and boom there she was again tugging and then sliding and pulling like a mad mother. I finally got her close to the boat and started hoisting her in. WHat? I reached down and grabbed a yellow anchor line and pulled in 10' of line before hoisting the anchor into the boat. Got both my Depth Raiders back and a nice anchor to boot. Man She fought funny though.
PierBridge
While ice fishing on LOW for some reason I had my FRS radio in my lap, I got a bite on 1 of my holes I jumped up and my radio fell into my other hole I was not going to tell anyone "embarrassed" so I pull up a 14" Sauger I look over and my other bobber is gone so I set the hook and it feels like another good fish and LOW "no pun intended" and behold I hooked my radio right on the seem of the case as it fell in 36 fow with a small Genz worm. Dried her out for a week and she still works.

tonyjor
I pulled a pallet up on my anchor line last year. It wasn't in the slot so I let it go near shore.
beretta
While trolling for walleyes on Mille Laces a couple years ago I hooked into what I thought was a pretty good fish. I got it up to the boat and thought it was pretty small, but after getting it in the boat I saw it had another rapala in its mouth with some line attached still. I pulled in the line and found the rod and reel attached to the other end. Pretty good catch huh? fish...rapala...rod and reel. I dried out the reel and use the combo on a regular basis. MJCatfish
Pulled up the anchor while fishing the Red River this spring and it seemed quite heavy. Ended up catching another anchor on the anchor. I've heard of people losing anchors, but never catching one.

Dan Brelje
I have not had anything very unusual happen for a catch, but, if someone has pulled up a 3-4lb northern with a guide series rod with him on green lake (chisago) could you let me know. Last year the northern flipped right out of my hands and the pole went with him. I still laugh to this day about that. Stupid Me.

Next thing I knew I heard her telling her mom about it on a cell phone. Pretty funny to watch!
Lunker
I caught a pigeon. Was fishing a warm water discharge on the Miss, and when I cast, it spooked the pigeon which got the line caught under its wing. As it flew away the line was fed through it's wing and the lure(rattletrap) began rising out of the water. The Higher the bird got, the closer the lure got to it, finally colliding and sending the bird plummeting towards, and into the water. I reeled it in, and each treble hook had pinned one wing back so it could not flap it's wings. My friend and I carefully removed the hooks and line while the birds mate chirped at us. The bird was released unharmed, but ruffled. I have also caught a dress sock out of a northern minnesota lake.It could not be saved
Derrik
I caught a loon once. I was using a sucker minnow and bobber. I only had 12 pound test on. My bobber went down, I set the hook, and zzzzzz, just started cleaning out my spool. I yelled for a friend of mine to get the boat because I didn't know what I had on. About 30 seconds later the loon came flying out of the water about 20 feet, then went right back down in the water. We chased it around the lake for about 5 min until we finally got it close enough to the boat that I could reach down and cut the line about 3 feet from the loon. Keep in mind I cut the line while going wide open in a 14 foot boat with a 7.5 horse motor on it.Poor fella. I don't know if it survived or not. I felt really bad afterwards. Anybody think it was ok??
FOOT
Fishing Redwing (Contact US Regarding This Word) a buddy and I were verticle jigging when we both got a bite. The same 19" walleye had taken both jigs, one in one side of its mouth the other jig in the other corner. My buddy caught the biggest walleye he or I had ever seen. A quick messurement showed it to be about 35". Released it right away. It had been dead for some time and I'm sure in the process of decaying it stretched quite a bit. Alive I think she might have gone 9 lbs plus. Too bad.Another buddy I was fishing when he hooked an eel just South of the Wabasha bridge. I urged him to unhook it but he just cut the line. Ugly looking thing.Back when I was a young man and just out of the military I went to Ann Lake by Mora and caught a 5hp Johnson. We were trolling for northern in about 7'. I tried to get the snag unhooked by stationing the boat directly over it but it wouldn't come loose. One of the guys I was fishing with said he thought he could see a motor, so we slipped off our pants and jumped over. Sure enough there it was. We checked with the cabin owners but no one knew where it came from. Drained, dried and fired it up. Worked as a great duck boat motor for many a year. Traded it in on a 15hp some 20 years later. HC Eye Hunter
I caught a 3# Gold Fish in 1979 on the Red River while attending UMC in Crookston. I wasn't sure what I had so I brought it back to school to show everyone at the dorm. Our conclusion was that someone had dumped this member of the carp family in the Red River and it grew like a normal carp.
CH47
This year on Lac Seul in Canada I hauled in a 200lb stump with the anchor. The bonus was that it was loaded with jigs! Even got the one back that my buddy lost 20 min earlier.
FOOT
I forgot this one - About 15 years ago I was fishing opening weekend out of Bowen's Lodge on Winnie. We came in for lunch on Saturday and there by the lodge stood a guy holding onto a length of fishing line with a Skate on the other end.A Skate is not a roller skate. It is a fish much like a Ray. I couldn't believe it myself but there he was holding it. The DNR guy said it may be possible for a Skate to come up the Mississippi and get into Winnie but he was pretty sure it would be difficult and probably the only one to ever make it.Anybody out there ever hear of this ? Let me know, I still have a hard time believing it and I saw it. The only other explaination is the guy caught it in the ocean and brought it to Winnie as a prank. I don't know the answer.
