bucketmouth64
Kare11 just reported that the Vikes signed cornerback Fred Smoot. What a great signing. We should have one of the best cornerback tandems in the NFC. I also heard thru KFAN that safety Donavan Darius form Jacksonville wants to play for the Vikes. He wants out of Jacksonville in the worst way. Vikes should go after him. This would really solidify our secondary. I think that if they get another free agent on defense they will go offense (WR) with the 7th pick in the draft.
bassman186
I think we should sign Donavan Darius and since Plaxico had the flu and never met with New York we should make a move on him as well!~Matt Jung
Down to Earth
I believe the Vikes would have to work out a trade to receive Darius from Jacksonville.Good signing though with Smoot. Should be an interesting year next year in the NFC North.
bassman186
We should trade our 18th pick in the 1st round for Darius, He wants out and that would give Jacksonville a decent pick in the 1st round.~Matt Jung
koWALLEYEski
with Fred Smoot I also believe the Vikes will have one of the best defensive cores in the NFC.
Captain B.R.K
They have Pat Williams, Napolean Dynamite, and Fred Smoots!VOTE FOR PEDRO, VOTE FOR PEDRO!!If they were to get Darius, which they would have to give up draft picks because it would be a trade NOT a pick up on free agency, all of them need to play as team! That will be the biggest test for the vikes. No doubt in my mind if they get Darius, they'd have a beefed up secondary. With K.Irwin coming back from injury, they'd be deep. They say, Super Bowl's are won with a good defense. Just ask the New England Patriots! See where I'm going with this?? Stratosman
Is this our same beloved Vikings? Actually making moves that make perfect sense? This is weird. But I like it!

JIvers
Quote: I dont think the packers will like the vikings having Darius he is the one that almost took off ferguson's head I was wondering why Darius would want to come here-I forgot about that. Yes, If he were to come to Minnesota, it would have to be via trade. Whether Darius is worth a #7 overall I am not sure. More generally, it is good to see the Vikings make some deals for playmakers on defense. Offense might sell tickets, which is all McCombs cares about, but defense wins Super Bowls. IFallsRon
Let's not get too excited until we see impact players on the line and at linebacker. A few extra stops a game by the defense would mean a lot.
fishinphilth
Signing Smoot is great, Viks will have good CB's on both sides now. I think that if they can get Darius for the 18th pick would be great. I would take a proven veteran than a unproven rookie any day.
lawdog
Smoot is a great signing! Pat Williams and him are two good quality pick ups! I don't know if they are willing to give anything up for Darius... Still need an impact wide reciever I think. Saddest part is they had enough cap room to keep Moss AND sign these two guys. Harris I don't think is any kind of improvement really... MedicineMan
fishinphilth, although I myself would like to see Darius play here, there's no way thats going to happen. He's a franchised played, in order to get him from Jacksonville we would have to give up TWO first round picks.
WallyGator12000
That's not necessarily true...The Jags have expressed that they would be willing to settle for one 1st round pick for Darius, and when he was interviewed he said that he thought his market value was more in the range of a 2nd or 3rd round pick...PULL THE TRIGGER VIKES! GullGuide
I also say go after Darius. Give em the 18th pick for him as well. They have been projected to take a D-Back there anyways and salaries should match up close anyways considering it would be first round money. Take a franchise player instead of a rook?..HECK YEA! That backfield would be THE best in the NFC if not the NFL. Take away a little time for the opposing offense to throw the ball and you add a little time for the Williams twins to get to the QB...I LIKE IT!!Besides, now that Moss is gone, we need to give the Cheesheads someone to hate on, and for obvious reasons, DD would be the perfect choice. He's a franchised played, in order to get him from Jacksonville we would have to give up TWO first round picks. He was franchised which means he had to sign with Jax for the average of the top 5 players at his position or elsewhere and that team would give up two 1st rounders. He has signed with Jax so that means he can only be gotten by trade which is whatever the receiving team will give up. I say swap 1sts with Jax and maybe throw in a 3rd. Vikes would get Darius and the #21 overall and we would give up the 7th. We would still have two first rounders but would have moved down 14 spots for DD. beer batter
I'm not so sure they'll be willing to give up a first rounder for Darius and I can't really blame them. If New England picked up Corey Dillon for a second rounder, Darius should be available for a second rounder too. I bet Jacksonville is trying to get a first rounder out of it, but I bet they'll settle for a second rounder when it comes down to it. One thing is for certain Darius will not be playing for Jacksonville next season, so he might as well play for the Vikes...
fishyguy
They would not be giving up a first rounder but swapping picks and moving down.
buzzsaw
If I were in the Vikes arganization I would offer our second round pick and Bennett for Darious and a return draft pick. Bennett would be a great back up or starter with Fred "often injured" Taylor. If that didn't work, I would just offer them our second round pick and see if they bite! MrSenarighi
Has anyone really watched Napolean Harris or Oakland and have any real insight about how good or bad he is or could be? I think most are looking at his stats and not taking into consideration defensive schemes Oakland has used the past few years. I really dont know anything about him but would like anyones opinion that does.
Fish Head
Darius will be 30 years old before the season starts. The 18th pick in the draft would be a mistake. He's a good player, but you don't give up the 18th pick in the draft for a defensive back who is 30 years old unless he is a game changer. A 2nd round or a running back trade would be as high as I would go.
lawdog
I don't know, they probably don't want to spend the money to contract for two first round picks anyway. They could trade their #18 pick for Jax 2nd round pick and Darius. I'd do that in a heartbeat... We need help NOW and he would really solidify a good crop of D-backs! james_walleye
My opinion is the that the vikings time is now, they have a great shot the next couple seasons too get something done. So go get Darius. Your not going to get 7 seasons out of him but your going too get a dang good safety and when you add him in with Chavous, Winfield, and Smoot, thats a fantastic defensive backfield. Bring Darius in, hes not too old, hes the same age as Moss is for gods sake. Hes the kind of player we need now. Theres no building for the future anymore, the future is now. cybermuskie
Maybe they will go for Sharper! It would be fun to watch him play the pack!
Fish Head
Darius is almost 2 years older than Moss. You cannot compare their talent and game changing ablitity. Moss is one of the biggest game breakers of all time.Believe me, I would LOVE to see Darius in purple. I just hope they don't trade a first round pick for him. I don't think they need to.This is getting exciting. Our defense next year is going to go from one of the worst to one of the best. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we are a top 10 defense next year.
