Corey Bechtold
Deitz, could your wife come mow my lawn? Here's what I got away with. When I got married my wife knew that I was a fisherman. When my cousin was dancing with her during the dollar dance he asked her if she was going to allow me to keep fishing. She made the mistake of saying that "Corey can go fishing whenever he wants". My cousin told me what she said and now I always have an alliby! Here's the catch. After we had kids things changed a bit. Now if I want to go fishing I usually have to take one of the kids or more. That is actually a bonus. I have 3 great fishing partners now and sometimes I have to beg them to go with me. Except for Cole who won't let me leave without him! Good Luck with the ladies guys, Corey Bechtold
Eric Wettschreck
I work my butt off year round. I especially work my butt off in the spring and summer doing work on the house and that kind of jazz so I can have fall for hunting and winter for ice fishing. Mrs. Boilerguy knows this and is pretty cool about it. My wife of 18 years doesn't like hunting. I think it's cuz it's early in the morning and cold outside and she just doesn't wanna. She can cook a duck with the best of em, however. She goes ice fishing with me all the time. Of course, it's in a nice heated perm house with carpet (As stated in a different fourm, chicks dig carpet) and a radio and TV. Kids come with all the time also. I guess if you're having trouble with the wife signing your leave papers to go fishing, take her with. By the way, the missus mows the lawn from time to time also. All 3 acres of it. But our rider has a built in cup holder.

schweady
Asking if ALL wives are the same is like asking if an Ugly Stick is like a G-Loomis. Take her out with you once in a while, whether it's fishing or dancing. It's not only the last few chances at a walleye for a while, it's also Valentine's weekend... Tripleplay
My wife and I actually got a set of THREE at one time 12 years ago. I was so into being married that I had already curtailed some of my hunting and fishing so it wasn't like I went from tons to none but it sure felt like it for awhile. Fortunately I was too busy to even realize I was missing the outdoors! My wife grew up in a family that hunted and fished although she wasn't really into it but at least she understands what and why I want to be out there. She especially loves when I have a kid or two with me so she can spend some quality time with the others. It does get better and I'm proof of it, although I'm still only averaging a single ice fishing pass a week right now that is definitely an improvement over previous. Now, one of my daughters is in firearm safety class and loves to be outdoors in the hunting blind or deer stand (got a new rifle for X-mas). Other daughter isn't in to hunting at all but loves horses so I spend my time with her outdoors riding during the summer and fall. My son on the other hand will do anything and everything to get outdoors (except his homework!). He has already had an afternoon of outfishing his dad. He will be my fishing partner hopefully for life and my hunting buddy along with his sister.I wouldn't trade anything at all but I have to admit that I'm sure loving the additional outdoors time I'm getting as they have gotten older. Oh yeah--my wife mows the lawn most of the time because she likes the exercise!

Mr. Pike1
I think Diets said it best that no they are not all created equal. Prior to getting married my wife was fully aware tf my passion for the sport of fishing and my need to continue with this passion. Like all thinks in life I have had to balance my family and fishing time. I am not able to go away as much for long weekends and at times I limit some of my ventures to lakes thar are closer to home. I have pushed the envelope a few times but for the most part I am able to get out on the water each weekend and one day during the week to get my fix in. Long Gray Line
Women marry men expecting that they'll change, and they don't. Men marry women expecting that they won't change, and they do. It's been said already, be home when you promise, say thankyou a lot, offer to do a little more. It's all compromise gang. BTW, my social director/fashion consultant/accountant actually encourages me to go fishing!! You won't hear me complaining.....
Big Pine Walleye
My wife is very good about letting me go fishing; unless I try to get out more than three nights in a row!!
bwtrout
I'd like to hear more from the Pro Staff and Moderator's. Seem's like they are either out fishing or posting here. They can't all be crusty old hermit fishermen?
TheGuy
My wife and I have a 14 month old girl and I still get out about once a week, maybe twice a week. I just have to take a week off here and there. She likes to fish with me so that helps. It was stated before, it really helps to be home when you say your going to be home. They like that. Guest
I feel your pain brother!! When I first got married, I pretty much fished and hunted any time I wanted to. In fact, I laid down the 3 "Sacred Dates" before we got hitched, where it was agreed upon that nothing, outside of death, would interfere- 1)Opener of fishing 2)Opener of duck hunting and 3)Opener of deer season. (Although now that I only bowhunt, it has lost some of it's sacredness...lol) As time went on, she laid down the law and both of us were pretty unhappy for a while, but since then, we have both learned to give and take and now as long as I put time away for her, she has no problem letting me go when I want. I'd have a real heart to heart talk about it, and try not to confront her while she's in a bad mood, or it will make it worse. There's no sense in being miserable, for her or for you. MT Net
You do need to cater and spend some quality time with your DA (Domestic Authority). Better yet, spend some of that quality time on the boat together now and then. Get her involved. We hit the lake together often, pack a picnic lunch on a warm sunny day, troll with the trolling motor. Nice!
ZapBranigan
Plan well. My daughter (our first was born on Fishing opener). Bad deal for a while. I changed I don't even like to go out on the opener any more. But my brother in law was married on the opener. Who was thinking on that one??? He still wants to go out every opener. Bad choices. Two things she never put up a fuss about. 1 if I'm going to get time with my father. Which is great cause I love fishing with that guy. 2. or if I am taking her father out fishing. Her brothers never take him and there is some bad blood going on there. So she really thinks this bonding is important. Oh yeah now that the kids are older no grief any more to bond with them either. ChuckN
I'm sure you're not the only one.My wife is extremely forgiving for when it comes to my time. Sometimes I can't believe it, but I certainly do not try to abuse it. I would agree with Gissert's post 100% so I won't repeat. However, my wife did not come from a hunt/fish family whatsoever, but I certainly introduced her to it and she likes it most of the time.My wife is now in school far away and I hardly see her it seems. Sure, I enjoy my freedom now, but I would rather have my wife at home again. Don't take it for granted.

SUNNYD
She doesn't give me too much dump about fishing as I fish with her Father all winter. He is an excellent ice angler and a great Father-In-Law. I must be one of the lucky ones. Now try to buy a truck without her knowing is a whole different story, one that I won't be repeating any time soon. She still holds that one against me...easier to ask for forgiveness then ask for permission! Luckily she is a forgiving person as well. We have been married almost 4 1/2 years and have a 11 month old baby boy who will hopefully be destined to many days on the lake with his dad in the future. Take care!
