PierBridge
So it appears all that is left now is how much will the civil suit settlement be.And who pays Stewart the track or both?Doubtful Tony will fight it until the end as nobody really wants it to drag out.Even if Tonys deemed 2 percent responsible that will still be some serious change. CaptainMusky
And what "guilt" would that be? Eating the arbys mega meat stack twice daily for the last two weeks?
jbell1981
I see that Tony is racing this weekend. Only took three weeks to get over the guilt. So because he is racing means that he is over what happened? At some point you need to get on with your life whether you are over it or not. Big Dave2
Quote:Grand Jury to Consider Case Against Driver Tony StewartHE COULD FACE CHARGES IN DEATH OF FELLOW DRIVER(NEWSER) – A grand jury will decide whether to charge three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart in the August death of a fellow driver at a race in upstate New York. Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo said today he decided to present the case to a grand jury after reviewing evidence collected by sheriff's investigators. Tantillo could have determined there was not enough evidence to support charges and dropped the case, but instead announced his decision more than a month after Stewart's car struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr. at a dirt-track race on Aug. 9.In a statement, Stewart said he respects the time and effort authorities have spent "investigating this tragic accident," adding, "I look forward to this process being completed, and I will continue to provide my full cooperation." In the race, Ward spun out while driving alongside Stewart, and the 20-year-old climbed out of his car and walked down the track, waving his arms in an apparent attempt to confront the 43-year-old NASCAR veteran. Experts have said Stewart could be charged with second-degree manslaughter under New York law if prosecutors believe he "recklessly caused the death of another person," with negligent homicide another possibility. PierBridge
Makes you wonder if there was some sort of radio communication recording with Tonys car.I always thought that would be about the only way he would be indicted is if he said something stupid in true Tony fashion. This grand jury has to be a big concern and surprise for the Stewart camp. They better hope the Ham Sandwich theory doesn't hold true here.
pushbutton
Think if there was audio recordings that were detrimental, the DA would have proceeded without going to the grand jury. Tough to say at this point why the grand jury. Guess would be to cover his(DA) backside. They do only need 12 of the 23 to say...yeah..... for the ham sammie though. While I feel Stewart did bring this upon himself, does not appear there will be enough evidence to convict that sandwich beyond a reasonable doubt. candiru
I happened to be listening to the Holding Court broadcast with Ron Rosenbaum this evening. They were talking about the Adrian Peterson situation and Joe Friedberg was a guest. Joe happened to mention that in NY, where the Stewart case is, all felonies must go before a grand jury. NAMASafetyDirector
The only communication in Sprint car racing is through whats called a raceciever which only allows the track officials to communicate with the drivers in regards to positioning or some other directions that they may need. The drivers cannot communicate with thier teams or vice versa. So NO there would be no recordings from inside the car.
CaptainMusky
Joe happened to mention that in NY, where the Stewart case is, all felonies must go before a grand jury. splitting hairs but its all cases that COULD result in a felony. It doesn't mean he is being charged with one.
pushbutton
Quote:Sprint Cup Series News, Rumors & Stats RSSGrand jury hearing testimony in Tony Stewart case UPDATES NOT to be charged: Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo has convened a grand jury to determine whether charges should be brought against NASCAR driver Tony Stewart for his role in an on-track incident that caused the death of driver Kevin Ward Jr. Grand jury testimony began Tuesday in the case. Tantillo said on Sept. 16 that he would present evidence from the police investigation to a grand jury. Chuck Hebing, who was driving in the Aug. 9 race when Ward was killed at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, confirmed that he was called to testify about the accident but declined to discuss the matter further. Ward, 20, died after he was struck by the car of Tony Stewart during a Sprint car race. The incident took place moments after Stewart, a three-time NASCAR season-series champion, bumped Ward's car and forced it to crash into the corner wall on Turn 2. rundrave
Quote:A grand jury has decided against charging NASCAR star Tony Stewart in the August death of another driver at a sprint car race in upstate New York. The decision was announced Wednesday, nearly seven weeks after Stewart's car struck and killed Kevin Ward Jr. at a dirt-track race on Aug. 9 in Canandaigua. District Attorney Michael Tantillo also said Ward was under the influence of marijuana that night "enough to impair judgment."Ward had climbed from his car after it had spun while racing alongside Stewart. The 20-year-old walked down the track, waving his arms in an apparent attempt to confront the three-time NASCAR champion. This new information is interesting, racing a 410 sprint car with marijuana, that just seems sorts of backwards.....crazy
CaptainMusky
Also, for all you that vehemently supported Ward, the toxicology reports came back and he was under the influence of Marijuana!!!May he rest in peace, but ultimate lesson learned here.
