FAVORITE FISHING SHOWS?

I have never muskie fished but KO is the best with video/sound production IMO and keeps me captivated but IDO gives me more/better info so if I had to pick only one it would be IDO, hate it when I miss it which is rarely.

I really like the way IDO is shot and the trips they feature and the info they share, but the "shamwowwwing" of VMC, Rapala, TUCR, Marcum, Otter, and SM is a bit much for my taste. BTW, what happened to the awesome Thorne Rods and Slender Spoons they couldn't leave home without last year? smile

Couldn't agree more! I like the way IDO is shot and filmed and how they hit local places and it's put out within a week. But I'm quite sick of hearing about VMC and Otter. I liked that they made the switch over to TUCR but yeah enough about the product. Un cut angling is great for that reason, some helpful tips, great personalities, and big ol' fish!

Whatever happened to that muskie guy out of Hugo, MN? Can't remember his name. He was as arrogant and bossy in the boat as anyone I've EVER seen!

He'd hook a fish then just start barking orders at his boat guest. DO this! No Don't DO that! Now do this! Now go over there! No don't do that!

He was a real piece of work, but he sure could catch giant fish!

Saw him at the Sportshow tonight, couldn't help but chuckle! I think the same about him!

I don't think IDO pimps their sponsors any more than any of the other shows. When fishing open water, Gillespie must say "Frabill net" at least 85 times. Can't finish the show without having a Johnsonville brat cookout on the ice. Linders are the same way with Rapala, VMC, etc.

Does Larry Ladowski (Midwest Outdoors)fish anything besides topwater poppers on Crane Lake for smallies?

Anybody remember Fishing with Fish Fishburne?

Late 90's, I don't know if his show is still going or not. He was more comedy vs fishing. Never saying where he was fishing- hidden lake on lost road in no-mans land. Buying a ladder and setting up 5 feet into the lake and fishing from on top of the ladder.

Goofy sound effects out of the fish and such.

I do (vaguely) remember that show...and my memories coincide with yours. smile

HAHA, Poor John Gillespie. I'd be lying if I said that show wasn't infectious to watch. I usually catch it every Saturday. I noticed that the guy who jumps in the water during the theme song now uses a net (a Frabill, no doubt) as a guitar instead of an actual live Largemouth Bass, as in past seasons. Wondering if someone cried animal abuse on that one.

I've read, though, from someone on another thread who's fished with him... Apparently it's not a persona, he's like that 100% of the time and he never stops. This person also said he's one of the nicest, hardest-working guys in the industry, filming almost year-round, one show per week. So you kinda start to cheer for the guy.

Like annoying car dealership commercials, it sticks. "GET THE FRABILL!" is constantly yelled in my boat with my buddies, even when fishing Bluegills. At the end of the day, it's effective marketing.

I love In-Fisherman and the Lindner's show. I haven't seen most of the others mentioned here. I remember Fish Fishburne though smile

One thing that has always bugged me about fishing TV shows, is that most of them air on weekend mornings...which is when I'm out out fishing.

DVR.

Then you can choose to watch or not without missing something.

Besides, who watches any tv in real time? I even timeshift sports by 10 minutes or so. That lets me skip commercials or unnecessary replays.

+1. I set the DVR to record the series of many of the programs. Many of the times I am not home or its during the week when I am at work.

Its nice to breeze through the commercials and just focus on content.

Gillespie I compare to like a football tailgating party. Its a group of folks on the ice, and providing grilled brats to celebrate a win.

Speaking of Fish Fishburne, I have seen him on a few commercials that are airing on one of the outdoor network stations I have. Cannot remember the name of the network. Pursuit maybe? he is like a FedEx delivery guy or something.

Yeah, I haven't jumped on the DVR wagon.

In addition to a monthly fee, I would have to up my cable package to have it, and that would more than double what I pay currently. I would like to see more fishing shows, but I can live without them.

Gillespie has grown on me a lot over the years. In addition to a new show every week he does a heck of a job with showing variety, different species and types of waters. He also does stuff that I can watch and say to myself, "I could go there and do that"

Was Fish Fishburne that guy that would mock all the tourney anglers and pros about everything they did when catching a bass? Like throwing the rod tip back and forth the entire length of the boat to keep the fish hooked and beneath the water? He would grossly exaggerate everything?

If this IS that guy he was HILARIOUS! laugh I don't think that went as far back as the 90's though, but I could be wrong. Again, if we're all thinking of the same guy, I believe he only pulled off maybe one season then caught so much flack from all the pros he was teasing that they stopped airing the program. He was REALLY funny though!

That was Claude "Fish" Fishburn. I was hooked the minute I saw him. You can find some clips on Youtube. Many similar antics in my boat.

I must say that the Lindners are my favorite. I really like the Anglers Edge show and Al's message at the end. My family stops what they are doing to listen. Nice to see an outdoor personality give glory to God through everyday outdoor messages.

1. Lindners

2a IDO

2b Jason Mitchell

I've DVR'd all the rest of them before and these are the only ones that don't feel like regurgitated garbage time after time. Lindners showcase techniques and equipment. IDO showcases equipment and the experience of fishing. Jason Mitchell showcases virtually zero equipment and makes for a great afternoon/rainy day "wish I were fishing" feeling.

I used to DVR ol' John Gillespie...he'll be grabbing the Frabil, or doing the infamous Gillespie "flip" of a 12" walleye about now...literally I bet I could guess the show coming up this weekend. I used to DVR Winkelman but it stopped and I never tried to find the new name of the show. My DVR stopped getting the Lindners and I actually tried to make that tape no matter what.

I like that they're all different and have their own unique feel.

I have liked the Linders more the past couple of seasons now that they are shaking things up a bit by going on some new kinds of waters and sometimes even identifying the lakes they are on. They will go on a small river for smallmouth or catfish. In the past, each show started to become the same. Al and Jim out on some unspecified water (most of the time you can tell it was Mille Lacs) and just catching walleyes or bass. No context. Now they will show them drop the boat in the water so you can get an idea of where they are at. I don't know, I can relate to it more.

I like IDO because they also identify the water and I can relate to it more. I can see myself out there doing the same things he can. Much more than the Linders.

I watch Babe Winkelman not for the techniques, but for capturing the experience of just going out fishing. It's often him and his family out fishing. And I can really relate to that. And he gets seriously excited for each catch, unlike the Linders. His show captures the joy of fishing to me more than any other.

Next Bite is OK, but I often find it hard to relate to since they spend so much of there time up in WI, MI, Erie, etc. I'm also not a muskie fisherman so can't get into the Pete Maina segments.

Midwest Outdoors is another one like Babe Winkleman to me. I don't watch it to learn techniques but to capture the essence of being out on the waters they are on. Good substitue for actually being out there myself.
