Ponder

Ponder is playing better than Sullivan or Erin Henderson....and take your pick of our DB's, excluding Smith.

I don't know how in the H Sullivan can be looked upon as a veteran LEADER of this team after the team watches tape of the games...he gets abused every Sunday.

This team has real issues if Sullivan and Henderson are being asked to be some of its team leaders...

I was trying to be a Ponder supporter for a long time, but I have given up.

Sorry all. He needs to be benched and we need to move on.

I would really like just to have a sufficient QB and see what we could do.

This team needs a lot of change and Ponder needs to be 1st.

The team looks like they have no confidence in him either.

I know I am just stating the obvious.

Another Minnesota team trying to catch lightning in a bottle and waiting for the stars to align.

I'd have to agree. There seems to be a noteable difference in quality between our o-line, and our d-line. And I will be the first to admit, what I just said is the "Greatest Understatement of the Year!" Our d-line is pretty strong, although giving away the last two games in the last few seconds of the game doesn't make them look too good. Our pass coverage remains, as always, weak.

I don't understand how this could be happening at this level? As I watched play after play after play, the Viking's offensive line almost completely unable to stop any pass rush, I couldn't help but be reminded of watching a 9th grade boys football team. It was simply unbelievable. Against a mediocre defensive line they just could not hold the offensive line. There were actually offensive plays where almost every defensive lineman for Cleveland were able to get to Ponder at the same time!?! How can EVERYONE get thru?

Honestly, what are these guys getting paid for? All I could do is shake my head. We're really in deep this year. It's going to be a very long, painfully embarrassing season to watch the Vikings.

Perhaps this will make the powers that be reconsider re-building the team before building the new stadium? mad

I am not making excuses for the putrid offensive line play but good QBs who get the ball out quickly make a bad offensive line look much better. Ponder does anything but get the ball out quickly.

I am not making excuses for the putrid offensive line play but good QBs who get the ball out quickly make a bad offensive line look much better. Ponder does anything but get the ball out quickly.

Cutler showed that on Sunday night. In years past he's been hit A LOT behind a poor offensive line. This year it sounds like the new coaching staff had him focus on getting the ball out quickly, basically as soon as his last foot hits the ground in the 3 step drop the ball should be coming out. I think they timed his release at about 1.5 seconds after the snap, even a bad o-line can give a QB that kind of time.

Some of this falls on Ponder and some also falls on the coaching staff for not adjusting the play calling. If they are calling plays that have routes that take longer than 2 seconds to develop then Ponder is in trouble even if he's capable of making the quick throws. However, I don't think Ponder is confident enough to make a split second decision on where to throw the ball nor is he accurate enough to make a quick throw on target.

Someone said strong D line ? Really ? We had 1 sack going into Sunday and a total of 4 on the season after that game with I think Erin Henderson getting 2 on blitzes. People don't run the ball much. The names on that D line sound good but from a production standpoint ick. 1 sack a game with our secondary I can see why we're 0-3. Not just that Leslie and Ponder. No doubt Big Dave, Cutler, even Aaron Rodgers has been under heavy pressure for a few years now and by games end his numbers qualify for the W. I like how just before the season it was well we'll be alright, got a full mini-camp etc. in this year, guys got a playoff game under their belt, we'll be fine. Cleveland at home and they were tanking it for that # 1 QB on the board this year, we may want to go that road. Think Greg Jennings is noticing a difference lol at QB.

He!! yes. He's got arms like a blacksmith and 7% bodyfat too. Man look at that smile.....

Maybe he put a call in to Bus Cook to get the word out.

"Today, he could play today,'' Cook said Monday night before his appearance as guest speaker at the New Horizons Credit Union-1st & 10 Club meeting at Heron lakes Country Club. "I saw him the other day. He's in the best shape I've ever seen him in, physically.

"His arms look like a blacksmith's arms. He rides a bike probably 30-50 miles a day. He runs four or five miles a day. He's coaching at the high school and they're undefeated. He loves it. His body fat is 7.5 percent and he weighs 225 pounds. He could play today, better than a lot of them out there today.''

I would be all in on favre. If nothing else but to [PoorWordUsage] off the packer fans even more.

I only wish we had him during his prime. We would've scored 1000 pts in 98 with him vs the qb rotation we had. That's what's frustrating to me. I know a franchise qb is very very hard to get, but we have gone through so many qbs in the span of 15 yrs that its ridiculous. We need stable play. I really don't even care if they are a superstar. Just someone we can count on yr in yr out.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. That's what my hockey coach used to say when I scored. Well before favre and Rodgers let's go through the list. Not much different than mn. The colts, broncos, miners are about the only franchises who seem to have franchise qbs regularly. Well you look at kaepernick now though compared to last year and you may question it though too.

Favre was a complete, 100%, suprise to the Packers. I'll put it on the Curt Warner level. Heck, throw in Tom Brady, too.

These are guys who were thrown in there because of injury and took off like a rocket. None of these guys were being groomed as the next "superstar". They were simply the next man up.

All Hall of Famers now...or shortly.

MBT may be that next man "up"...bet your bottom dollar the Vikes put in Cassel instead....

We may soon find out!

Quote:
Christian Ponder revealed his Week 4 status is uncertain due to a rib injury sustained against the Browns.

The injury can't be too serious as Ponder finished out the Week 3 loss and was able to throw in Wednesday's walkthrough. But rib issues are tricky because any contact can be extremely painful and cause aggravations. "If I can't fulfill my duties, then Matt (Cassel) is going to step in and play," Ponder said. There have already been whispers that Ponder is on a short leash this season and the Vikings are actually high on Cassel. Sunday's game against the Steelers in London starts at 1pm ET.

Miss Favre you bet, he really had studs to throw to like Bernard Berrian, Visanthe Schinco lol, Greg Lewis, etc. Syd Rice got paid big too lol, I hate seeing CP on the sidelines not doing the things like Peyton Manning does, Manning up by 28 points late in a game or down 28 which is never is always studying the plays, what the D tried to take away, always talking to his WR's, always got printed out pictures he's going through, checking in with certain coaches etc I don't see this happening on our sideline. Always tweaking plays or making certain everything is the way it needs to be.

Well Cassel will be the starter soon enough, and we will find out if he is any better then Ponder. My guess is we will be better. Cassel can quickly get rid of the ball, he can read the defense, and he wont stare down the first receiver. We may not see less turn overs, but I think Cassel can win a few games for us. I think he can be that clock manager we have hoped from Ponder. I dont think he will take us to the promise land, but he will be better then Ponder, I have no doubt.

I think the biggest problem with our offense is that the coaches arent smart enough to correct the issues. That being coach Ponder to have pocket awareness, and read the defense. No one is there to teach him to get rid of the ball when needed, when to step up when needed, or when to scramble when needed. Cassel already has them basic talents, thats why I think he will be better then Ponder.

Ponder may have a chance on a team with some good coaches to teach him the basics of being an NFL QB, but our staff isnt capable of doing that. It is time to move on to someone that already possesses those skills, even if they are basic QB skills taught in high school, Ponder doesnt have them, and our coaching staff is not capable to teach him.

As for the man with many names, he needs to just watch and learn one more season. Take in what he can from Cassel, not from watching Ponder. Then next year in the offseason, draft the best QB on the board in the first round, bring in a couple more young free agent QB's and have an all out open competition for the starting qb job. Keep the best 3 for the season. We also need to replace the coaching staff this coming off season, clean house. Some one early mentioned it isnt getting done in the trenches, we have some decent players, but again, I think they are being held back by incompetent coaching. Bring in new coaching, and have them sort through the players, to see who should stay, and who should go. Frazier wont make Christmas unless Cassel can pull out an 8-8 season. At that point, send the rest of his staff on a permanent holiday with Frazier.

This season should be used to evaluate the players for next season, we arent going to win nothing with the staff, and players we have, might as well play for next year now. Get ahead of the pack.

If you want someone to get the ball off quickly, Thompson is the guy. Its a LOST season already. Why even waste time with Cassel at this point, they arent going to the playoffs. He isnt a long term solution. He isnt going to "teach" Thompson anything.

Cassel will get killed with the current pass protection issues. He cannot move. He better get the snap and fire the ball for the sidelines.

At least if you give the kid a chance you have some idea whether he has "it" to even think about long term plans with him. Better than wasting the rest of the season with Cassel in there, then in the offseason spending more draft picks on QBs, etc etc when they may have the diamond in the rough.

The patriots didnt really know what they had in Brady until Bledsoe was injured. Same for Favre, Kaepernick, etc. Though I think the niners have neutered Kaepernick this year and he is having some struggles.

None of our QB's has "it". Cassell may manage the game a little better than Ponder but he isn't the long term answer. I don't think I can handle watching any more of Ponder sucking though. I about threw a brick through my TV when he threw those two essentially no gain passes dead square in the middle of the field on the last drive. Does he know NOTHING about football?

I think we all know now why Wilfs didn't give LF a big contract extension last year. Flukes happen. And as bad as the players have played this year, which is a coaching issue in and of itself, 2 losses are directly bad game coaching decision losses. UGH!!!!!!! LF gets taken by surpise more than a first year highschool coach.

Cassel will be our starter, whether you guys like it or not. He will do better then Ponder, regardless if he isnt as mobile. Being smarter in the pocket for the 3 seconds he has, will mean more then dancing like an itiod for 3 seconds in the pocket. Your right, he isnt our long term answer, but putting in a kid that has no experience to get killed behind a offensive line that cant stop anyone, isnt going to get you anywhere either. It isnt going to tell you what his level of play is, being he has no protection. You have to put the guy in that has the most experience, and is smarter in the pocket.

For instance, I know, bad comparisson, but I am using it. Would you rather have Favre behind center, or TJack behind center, when you have a bad O-line? Favre is old, and cant move fast, Tjack is young, and athletic. I would choose Favre every day of the week, and no, I dont want Favre back on the Vikes. He was a great Packers QB, he should have stayed that way!

Good QB's mask O-line problems really well because they know what they are doing and get the ball out quickly. The Junksons and Blunders of the world would make a good O-line look bad.

Give me MBT over Cassell anyday at this point, we all know what we will get out of Cassell, we don't know what we will get out of MBT, it could be really really good or it could be really really bad, I'd rather gamble.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
