I was surprised to see Elliot the punk back. Im sure he had to buy a boat because no one in their right mind would hire him to be a Captain of their boat. I like how he lied about running the boat into the ice pack till they replayed the footage. He will have to get real lucky or pot down somebody to catch any crab.Still the most real and best reality show on TV.

Just watched it on the DVR. Good start to the season. Elliot's only option was to buy his own boat. Still can't stand "Mr. Tough guy" keith...for some reason the guy just gets on my nerves. Time bandit boys are always fun to watch. And another year of Edgar and SIG buttin heads...

I enjoyed all three episodes. It was great to see Phil in the recap episode a week and a half ago. He really anchored the show.

The Time Bandit remodel and history was great. Loved the line, named that because it steals all of your time. Good stuff seeing the background of that family.

I couldn't believe how much weight they added to the front of the TB. I wonder if they offset that by removing other weight.

My predictions:

Kieth will be a drama queen and get into with another captain then take it out on his crew.

Wild Bill will yell at his kid and others then talk to the camera about 'back in the day'.

Elliot will have a tough time finding crab and will work his crew past their breaking point. He'll also cry at some point, maybe twice.

The Hillstrands will put Josh Harris on the right track to focus on the Cornelia Marie.

Jr will have a confrontation with another caption and have a successful season.

The Hansons will argue, find crab, and go home.

I was surprised that they added steel because they wanted it to be at least an inch thick up front. How thick is it to begin with? I would have expected it to be at least that from the beginning.

its hull was probably only 3/8" thick.

In a boat that big those plates they added up front wouldn't make much difference. And they probably added more weight in the rear with those new engines.

Guess you are right. I expected it to be heavier. Found an online calculator that put a 3/4" 6 foot square steel plate at around 1,100lbs.

If they put 4 on a side they added 4 about tons to the bow which probably has little affect.

It looks like we're in for a good season. I enjoyed watching the Time Bandit get it's rebuild too. I saw the Time Bandit in port when I was in Homer, Alaska a couple years ago.

I have a question- Who in the world gave Elliot a loan for $1.5 million to buy a boat??? Probably the same people who were giving home mortgages to anyone that could spell their name a few years back.

Way to ruin it... winkgrin

The rebuilding of the TB was awesome, loved it. I was wondering last year why the crab boats don't have a thicker hull but I suppose it's because 80-90% of the time they're not breaking ice to fish.

The Captains did an honest ham job in the season preview. They knew it, we knew it, but they made it fun anyway.

This is just one of those shows that has me completely hooked. Can't help it. I wanna be there.

I used to watch the show every week, last year I was kind-of in-and-out, but after catching the first episode this year, I think I'm back in full-time. DVR is set. I don't want to see anyone fail but let's be honest, this is entertainment. I want to see Elliot get a harsh dose of reality.

They said in the show that it was 1/4" and they were adding another 3/4".

Watched a few episodes a couple years back and fell into "crabs" again, who cares?

Just started the entire series over again with my wife and watching it on Netflix and she has given me the motivation to approach this show and start it off on a new foot. Just finishing up on Season 3 this weekend.

Well we are on season 5 now. Almost makes a guy sick watching those captains rot themselves away like that. Yea they are warm and inside but the lack of exercise, stress and no sleep is almost worst on their health than the burtle stuff the deck hands take on.

Anyone know what kind of addiction Edgar was batteling before he cleaned up? It's amazing to see the number of veterans explain how being a fisherman has ruined their home lives, but then welcome their young kids to follow in their footsteps.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
