Gun Opener Weather

Recommended Posts

Just checked weather.com's 10 day forcast for Leech lake area that I hunt. 8 out of the next 10 days have high chances of rain with a little snow mixed in. Looks like decent chances of snow for friday and sat nov 4th and 5th. Could be good to get deer moving. Never know with these forcasts so far out. Things could change drastically.

i would love to have 2 to 3 inches a few days before opener. last year there was a little snow here and there in shady areas left on opener but it was too mild as far as i'm concerned [north of Duluth]. the thirty's are fine for a high. i dont like fresh snow the night before opener. seems to stop the movement for awhile. good luck.

Every year I pray for snow. Ideally I would like to see 2" to 4". It makes it so much easier to see, easier to track, easier to drag and pretty much impossible to get lost because you can follow your tracks back out. Even up where we hunt by Isabella, we don't often have good snow opening weekend of rifle season. That's why I liked it years ago when the season opened more in the middle of November. Now that I'm hunting 9 days straight starting opening weekend, maybe I'll get some good snow at some point.

Muzzleloader season usually has good snow, though.

I wouldn't trust 3 day forcast, its so often wrong I plan my days off around weather forcast and I still get wet hunting and fishing when they said sunny and clear... Im hoping cool and no rain or snow on opener gate sitting in that before or overnite snow great.

Looks like the forcast changed dramatically. Now they are showing mild temps. Bummer... It is always interesting watching it change as the day approaches. I guess it doesn't really matter. We will hunt no matter what the weather is...

Funny, yesterday's extended 10 day forcast was quite a bit different from today's. Yesterday's had mostly precip ahead today's forcast mostly mild partly sunny and very little (10%) chance of precip. That means leaves will be crunchy... I hunt in an area next to a super thick swam / bedding area and Im actually in and area of hard woods - oak ridges (alot of acorns), draws, and raviens so its nice to hear them coming but it makes getting to my spot a noisy affair. I sit all day so the advantage is mine after I get there. Just have to go early and mind the wind direction. Mild temps and a little sun will make it easier to sit all day to wait for that cruzing monster that is checking out the does munching on acorns.

Think about how many zone 2 rifle seasons have had snow in the last decade, it's T shirts and skirts boys. jk a couple years ago we had a windy cool light flurry opening weekend, give me snow and it will quadruple the number of deer on all 4 places I hunt, swamps, it will leave several properties with 0 deer, I just want to fire up the truck and defrost the windshield for once.
