Ok, so with all of us fishing alone, we should organize an event. It will be super easy to plan and we can all take part. All we have to do is pick a day, and we can all go out on our own. We don't even have to go to the same lake. I declare Saterday go fishing by yourself day.

I'LL BE THERE!

You all will know its me, because I'll be alone.

I loved last night, the peace and quiet of the night, noone driving around, the rumble of the ice growning. I went outside at midnight to look at the stars, it seems in the cold that they shine brighter. t There seemed like there were more than ever. I think I was in a better mood because of it today. I just wish I could get my wife to come enjoy it with me, she might see why I enjoy ice fishing so much.

I fish alone a lot. I love it but do mind company at all. My buddy will join me at times and we set up our shacks just far enough so his flasher stops messing with mine. I travel the outside the cities a lot and I love it when I can get done early and hit a lake on the way home from wherever.

I wasn't fishing last night... but when I drive home, I come to a T stop where I look over one of my fishing spots on a local lake.

Just above that spot the moon was rising... big full, bright, orange hue to it.

Very nice.

I'll be out tomorrow, not alone this time though. Although I must say fishing alone is one of the most relaxing things you can do.

I would say that 60% or better I fish by myself both open water and on the ice.

My wife always know what lake I am on and what time I am returning home.

It's nice to go to the lake and fish when and where you want an go home whenever you feel like it.

Just you and the fish and scenery.

It depends on the fisherman you are. It is for me a chance to get back with my friends... Sometimes its when me and my friend (s) can get out, other times its just me. I dont snort crack and drill 100 holes just to find fish... Im ok with just the friends and a line in the water. My god its fishing.... relax

“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.”

Henry David Thoreau

“Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers.”

Herbert Hoover

“Somebody just back of you while you are fishing is as bad as someone looking over your shoulder while you write a letter to your girl.”

Ernest Hemingway

“There are only two occasions when Americans respect your privacy. Those are prayer and fishing.”

Herbert Hoover

"Yes sir Mr. Obvious, I was....fishing along."

Good post! Outside of my grown son going with me sometime, I'm just about always alone, winter or summer. And I love it. I was beginning to think I was one of few, but I see there are lots of others.

I've had guys tell me they were going to go fishing, but couldn't find anyone to go along, so they stayed home. I guess it takes all kinds.

This reminds me of that scene in the movie Shrek, in the beginning when donkey and Shrek first meet:

_________________________________________________________________

Shrek: Why are you following me?

Donkey: I'll tell you why.

*singing* Cuz I'm all alone, there no one here beside me. My problems have all gone, but there's no one here to ride me.....but you gotta have friends!"

Shrek: STOP SINGING! IT'S NO WONDER YOU DON'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS!

Donkey: WOW! Only a true friend would be that brutally honest!

Fishing alone is great at times because when no one else wants to or can go...Its just me.

I fish alone about 75% of the time because I get out on the spur of the moment most of the time and would rather hit the water then wait for somone. I like fishing with my kids and with the guys when we have planned outings as well but you gotta go when you get the green light!

1st ice I am by myself, all alone listening to the ice crack as I walk. But during the majority of the season I fish w/ somebody. My dad used to go but not anymore. I fish w/ a great friend that lives 125 miles away. He keeps up on all the perch & walleye action of the area lakes. He always puts us on fish. I have also introduced another good friend to ice fishing this year & he really likes it. He needs a shack & some gear which I foresee after his kid is hooked on hardwater fishing. As for safety being alone - I make sure the ice is thick & carry my XD 40 grin

Most of the time I'm fishing with at least one other guy. I'm fortunate to have a good network of guys who love to fish so usually someone wants to go and can get free (one of them is single and is hardcore fisher guy). Usually plan outings a couple days in advance and that helps to get 2 or 3 of us together. However, I never hesitate to go out on my own (in safe conditions) especially spur of the moment when the stars align. I really enjoy fishing...and I enjoy it more when I can go with a buddy or more....although my wife jokes that we all just sit in our own fish traps so we mine as well be alone!!! LOL...in a way she's right.

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
    • I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage.  Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.   Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
