  1. Would u say its possible most of the lake (big round) is safe for foot traffic if a guy checked as he went? Also how much snow on the lake? Would be coming from an hour away with my pops who's getting up their in age. Thank you for any information you can give. Fl sniper

If you can afford it look at something like the summit viper..you'll be glad you did....i think this years models have a new "metal dampening" selling point which would be really slick if it is everything they say it is. I've owned one for a 4 or 5 years now and it works great. if money is a big factor then by all means go with what you can afford.
  3. I want to start refletching my own arrows. I am tired of getting my arrows refletched at the local big box store for $3/arrow and then have the vanes fall off shortly after and then having to super glue them back on myself. (I'm thinking the glue they use is bad because once i glue them back on they stay put.) I do shoot with a whisker biscuit but I don't nearly have the same problems with new arrows as the ones I get refletched (brings me back to bad glue being used). I shoot beman hunter 400s and blazer vanes right to the shaft. I'd like to continue this setup. Can someone suggest a good jig to use and some good, durable glue, and why you like them? How many arrows can you refletch at one time...is it just one per jig? Any other tips would be welcomed but I won't switch arrows, vanes, or whisker biscuit. Thanks for your opinions!

Don't Forget Local Tackle and Sport Shops

I agree with Mike's bait on 8!!! Good old east sider running the shop! Don't be afraid to order things through him either...he gets it quick and is as cheap or cheaper than the big box stores!

Do people go fishing by themselves this time of year?

Most of the time I'm fishing with at least one other guy. I'm fortunate to have a good network of guys who love to fish so usually someone wants to go and can get free (one of them is single and is hardcore fisher guy). Usually plan outings a couple days in advance and that helps to get 2 or 3 of us together. However, I never hesitate to go out on my own (in safe conditions) especially spur of the moment when the stars align. I really enjoy fishing...and I enjoy it more when I can go with a buddy or more....although my wife jokes that we all just sit in our own fish traps so we mine as well be alone!!! LOL...in a way she's right.

    The Bow stand Log thread.

Where's the pic of you in the Jason mask? I like that one better....easier on the eyes....just kidding! Congrats! A late season deer with a bow is quite an accomplishment!

    Ground Blind vs. Portable Stand

Practice, practice, practice and then go for it. Bow hunting is awesome...and you will be hooked once you have a close encounter with a deer. It's a different ball game from gun hunting that's for sure. If the properties you are hunting are conducive to climber stands (straight trees with few limbs to trim) I would suggest buying one of those instead of a hang on or ground blind. If you are fairly confident you are going to like bow hunting then I would suggest getting a Summit Viper SS climber right off the bat...they cost some money but it is money well spent and the stand will last many years. They are easy to use, light, and very comfortable to sit in. You will be very comfortable, and have the ability to hunt multiple locations very easily. Keep us posted of how your season goes! Good luck.
