JIvers
Sorry to say but I think there is an almost zero percent chance Brewster will be fired this year. In light of recent events since you made this post, do you want to revise your odds?

ssaamm
I grew up in Vermillion, SD home of the Coyotes. I was in Canada fishing over the weekend with no tv or radio to speak of. We crossed at Baudette, and I had about 5 messages from by buddies about the game. How did USD score that many points? I'm sure Vermillion was rockin' on Sat night. Brewster talks a great game, but w/o results it wears thin after awhile.
pike doctor
We should put a giant cut out of the Burger King (King) out there as head coach. He would do a much better than doofster. Maybe we can trade him and maturi to gatorade for a couple cups and a jug.Simply pathetic. Fire them both NOW!!! And take bruiniks, all the dink regents and half of the crappy professors with you. we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted September 13, 2010 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted September 13, 2010 Embarassing...I can't believe he said "It's only one game".Looks like all of the surrounding states can gert a decent football program going but the Gophs with their new stadium can't get it done. Nick Kuhn
There is no point to firing Brewster now--it would just make a bad season worse.Brewster should be fired much like the Vikings fired Mike Tice: as soon the clock turns over to 0:00 at the end of the Iowa game, Brewster's pink slip should be waiting for him in the TCF stadium home locker room.Instead of confetti raining down it should be pink slips. In fact next week I think Gopher Fans should have a pink slip in one hand at all times and a white flag to raise about half-time.

Zero percent chance he's fired this season and maybe not next year... So NO revision.... Unlike most people "gophs fans" at the game on Saturday I thought it was a great game and enjoyed every second of it. Of course I had good seats, plus the Yotes and the points so that helped! Great day for outdoor college football in a sweet stadium! The Coyotes QB was the difference maker on the field, that kid played great and he was clearly the better all around QB both throwing the ball on a very windy day and running it. South Dakota didn't have a lot of fans at the game but they sure had a ton of Fun! Oh and Brewster in his press conference took full 100 percent responsibility for the loss like he always does. This may not make you feel any better but I have been telling you guys for a while now that they play some good football across the boarders and parity around the country in ALL college sports is at an all time high! We are actually very lucky not to be 0-4 against NDSU, SDSU, and SD. NDSU knocked off Kansas earlier in the season so South Dakota beating us one of the worst programs in the country shouldn't be that big of a surprise at least to me in wasn't. The plus is tickets are going to be nearly free so if you like low level D1 football outdoors in an awesome stadium now is the time for an affordable game! Go Gophers!!!! rundrave
I am a little late with my thoughts on this, but I have to say a win is a win and its awesome to see some small local school like USD do that, but in my opinion they beat a team that has less going for them. USD is fresh at the D1 and are out to prove they can compete at that level. The Gophers have nothing other than they are a Big 10 school in affiliation only. JIvers
"Zero percent chance he's fired this season and maybe not next year... So NO revision.... " If you are saying Joel Maturi is an incompetent AD who will not do what needs ot be done (fire Brewster), then this makes sense. Or maybe you're an Iowa or Wisconsin fan, in which case I would understand wanting to keep Brewster around. Otherwise, if you are saying Brewster doesn't deserve to be fired...wow. I'm speechless. "Unlike most people "gophs fans" at the game on Saturday I thought it was a great game and enjoyed every second of it. Of course I had good seats, plus the Yotes and the points so that helped! Great day for outdoor college football in a sweet stadium!" You shouldn't "enjoy" watching a Big Ten team play an FBS opponent. You should completely ignore everything that happens after the second quarter when the Big Ten team opens up a twenty-eight point lead. You should enjoy watching the Gophers play Iowa, Wisconsin, and Penn State tough, not watching them fail to beat South Dakota. "Oh and Brewster in his press conference took full 100 percent responsibility for the loss like he always does." Yes, "like he always does". The problem is that Brewster always has to apologize for embarassing losses like this one. Good coaches, i.e. ones who deserve to keep their jobs, don't have to do that. RiverFish
The Gophs could very easily not win another game the rest of the year. I will give them one more win, squirrel finds the nut once in a while. So if the Gophs only win 1-2 games all year, I think Mr. Recruiter is gone.He can't recruit, he obviously can't coach, what good is he? PurpleFloyd
He can't recruit, he obviously can't coach, what good is he? He is a great morale booster for Wisconsin, Iowa and the two Dakotas. maybe they could chip in on his salary because they are obviously getting more out of him than the U of M
PierBridge
I'll enjoy what I want to enjoy. It's just a bunch kids playing a game if you want to be frustrated and disgruntled that's your choice or problem Eyehunter! Just to clarify I'm not saying he should or shouldn't be fired just my opinion he won't be fired immediately this year is all. I see him resigning before being fired this year but that's doubtful IMO. And I don't see another coach coming in and turning the program around anytime soon either if that helps ya! We haven't Won a Big Ten title since the 60's so changing coaches isn't going to do didley in my U of M alumini opinion. Also I don't see the total doom and gloom that you all see with the loss to USD which was there Super bowl. I'll bet we don't lose by 80 to USC as was posted above and I'll take the over as far as the ZERO wins the rest of the way too. Baby steps.... Go Gophs ! I forgot to mention after North Dakota State who is a so called Weak FBS team beat Kansas a big 12 D1 school. Kansas bounced back by beating the 15th ranked team in the country in GT.....LOL...try to keep up.....
LMITOUT
"We have improved every season, and we are better again this year," Brewster vowed earlier this month. zepman
Pier...it's more than kids playing a kids game...that's high school ball. It's a multi-million dollar game and the U of M is losing that game terribly right now. Boosters run the show...they write the checks and just like their own business ventures, they expect AT LEAST a moderate return. Right now, they aren't getting anything. Fans, too, expect something to cheer for...some hope...and right now and throughout the rest of the season the brand new stadium will be 1/2 to 3/4 full...that's just not good enough. You can bet your bottom dollar that back in some country club's private room is a group of boosters puting together Brewsters buy-out package as we speak...it won't happen during this season but it will happen soon after...and rightfully so. It's just a bunch kids playing a game if you want to be frustrated and disgruntled that's your choice or problem Eyehunter!"If you think BCS-level college football is just a bunch of student-athletes playing for joy of the game between busting the books you haven't been paying attention for the last forty years...A recent study found that in Iowa City, home football games generate around $100 million per year for this area: http://gazetteonline.com/blogs/docs-offi...-johnson-county I suspect similar revenue would be generated for the Metro area--if the Gophers were a more attractive option. Everyone of those cheap tickets and empty seats you extol is lost revenue for the neighborhood and the University, which has invested millions in the football program. That study does not even address the millions in TV revenue the Big Ten Network brings to its member schools--revenue that drops when people do not want to watch the inferior product Brewster puts on the field. Pine for the largely-mythical good old days of the pure student-athlete who is just playing for fun if you want, but NCAA football is a big business, and Brewster, and the U of M, are failing miserably at it. DTro
Here’s what is embarrassing…. Take the salary of Brewster + his coaching staff’s salaries + total scholarship money + cost of new stadium + cost of all recruiting + booster money. Now subtract SD’s total from that total I’m guessing what it will show is that current Goofer football is a HUGE waste of money. SD has put together a better team with a WHOLE lot less. Businesses don’t like wasting money. It’s just sad that the U has to keep buying out contracts….
so haaad
How would you like to be TCF or one of the other major sponsors right about now??? I'm a big fan of college football and have been dying to see the Gopher program get turned around. So I've been more patient with Brewster than most people, but I also say that this really has to be the year that Brewster shows up or ships out. So far Brewster hasn't given any indication on the field that he is turning around the program. He's finally admitting that the U needs to focus on running the ball. Well duh! So it's taken him 3 or 4 years to recognize what Mason already knew. As for being a recruiter, the only recruit of his that has shown any real potential is Gray. Brewster was hired because he was a "great recruiter". But he worked under Mack Brown at the University of Texas. What high school kid wouldn't want to play at a powerhouse program like Texas?!? Heck, a 5th grader could recruit high school players to the U of Texas. If he doesn't win at least one trophy game against Iowa or WI, plus a win against either USC/Ohio St/Penn St then he should be shown the door immediately at the end of the season. PierBridge
I never said it wasn't big business. I was born at night just not last night.... . It's just a game to me and will always be a game played by kids. Frankly and no offense to you guys I wasn't under the naive notion that Brew or any coach for that matter was going to turn this program around in 3 years. That's just laughable to be honest. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll be fired tomorrow......
zepman
I think we've become accustomed to saying that the program needed to be turned around...let's remember, it wasn't broke under Mason...in fact, it was the healthiest it's been in a long, long time.Mason just couldn't seem to take the next step with the program...he had many teams that were right there...and he just couldn't finish the deal.As a fan, I hope Brewster can finish this season strong and prove us all wrong...but it may already be too late. PierBridge
It goes in cycles and Mase did put a couple of decent teams together with the luck of having 2 NFL running backs blossom here. Of course the whining majority and media ran him out of town too. Not that it would have mattered much IMO as we were already on one of our patented down-turns. That's not called "luck" that's called "recruiting" and "evaluating talent." Neither of which is exactly a strong suit for Brewster. Brewster's incompetence as a coach is exceeded only by Maturi's incompetence as an AD.
PierBridge
I think its pretty lucky to have found a 17 year kid from Wazata MN who turned out to be a NFL running back. Of course that may happen all the time while I'm enjoying myself at these games. Also I would think Marion Barbers dad playing and being Captain of the U's football team had more to do with Barber 3 playing here than Mason's recruiting skill set.... So Mason was a good recruiter? So what happened to all of his defenses that gave up 30 4th quarter points when we actually had some hope?...LOL
harvey lee
The Gophers will be a total joke this season. I agree that Maturi has to go or nothing will change. It will still be years b-4 we have a solid team.At this time, with the team and coach we have, what great HS star would want to play at the U?Thats the big issue now and things will really need to change and that will take years.Get ready for a long ride of nothing.
