Bunny boots vs. Mickey Boots

I want to get a pair of the military cold weather boots and I'm wondering what peoples thoughts are on the black mickey boots vs. the white bunny boots. I'm finding that it is more difficult to find the white ones in my size (9W) than the black ones. There is also a slight price increase for the white ones. Are the white ones worth the extra effort to find and the slight price increase, or will the black ones be more than enough?? Thanks!

The blk mickeys are military mountain boots for cold weather, the bunnies are the artic series of the boots. I have worn the mickeys and bunnies, the bunnies are warmer. both are great boots. Great for preditor hunting, just a B!*ch to walk a long ways in. but after you wear them awhile you get the hang of them.

I have a pair of the black mickey boots and only use them when I am going to be sitting in the cold for an extended period of time and not moving much. My feet have never gotten cold while wearing them and I couldn't imagine how warm the white ones must be.

Thank you so much for the responses. It sounds like I should be fine with the black mickey boots. I usually am not out in the open for extended periods (usually in some sort of a heat portable/house) and especially not when it is extremely cold. I think the black ones should suit me just fine.

And yes these are the ones you have seen at FF.

I had a pair of Bunny Boots in high school, they did not look like these. I bought them at an Army surplus on the corner of Lake St.and Bloomington Ave, South MPLS and they had two buckles above the ankle, ties like a shoe, kind of a felt outter, a very slick bottom and hard to walk in on ice.... Great for sliding downhill on your feet, but you could never get back up the hill. They were very warm and where a hot item in the warming houses used for skating. whistle

The black ones are what most of my family wore years back. We called them "Koreans". I HATED them. My feet stay much warmer in Ice Kings than they ever did in the black "bunny" boots. Plus, if ya have a sock slide down you dont end up having blisters with black rubber friction burned into them!

One of the main benefits of both the Mickey and Bunny style boots is that the liner/insulation is enclosed within the rubber casing.

With the liner/insulation enclosed within the casing, your feet can be wet (condensation, etc.) and still stay warm. Additionally, when the day is done, all you have to do is wipe out any accumulated moisture inside the boot and it is ready to go immediately.

With most "mainstream" boots, you need to dry out the liner(and possibly even the boot itself)to get it back to it's original insulating rating.

My Itasca's got a slice in them rendering them not waterproof any longer. With an offer in on a house and a wedding in a few months I simply didn't want to go spend $120+ for a new pair of boots this year. I bought the Mickey boots last week for $50 figuring they will be a good backup pair of boots even after I can get a more modern pair of boots. I wore them this past weekend in the portable overnight Friday fishing on Mille Lacs. It was -15 degrees and we had the heater but feet on the ice in my flip over portable. Now thinking about it, I never thought about my feet once which means they were warm the whole time. The Itasca's work as long as it's not wet/slushy still but the Mickey's at the moment I think are going to be my primary's and give them a good honest shot the rest of this season. I like them so far. I also per the instructions put on one pair of thicker wool socks, laced up the boots and then rolled the top of the sock down over the top of the boot so it doesn't slide down.

i have a pair of the mickeys and love them; i have poor circulation in my feet and hands; and these boots seem to work the best; although, after wearing them these past 2 years now, they dont seem as warm as I remeber, I dont know if mositure got into the air valves or not; dont get me wrong it takes awhile for my feet to get cold, but when i 1st had them they were very nice. I'm thinking of getting the bunnies and as mentioned above i dont feel like dropping $100+ on the modern boots

Have had the mickey mouse boots now for 3 years and will be a firm believer in them till i push up daisy's. warmest boots even in the cold, windy fargo weather. The only problems i really did not forsee was that longer socks are required to keep the rubber off of your leg hair, and that they are heavy, and the short laces. But fishing with them in that they are totally waterproof is a major plus, also really nice up in the tree stand. thought i would throw in my .02

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
