2010 Bass Resolution

Deitz Dittrich

So, while we all make resolutions(mine- to loose 20 lbs) what is your Bass Fishing Resolution?

I'll start..

I still want to be a better crank bait fisherman. There are days when I have nailed it. I would be willing to bet I have close to 1K in cranks, but still choose the one I have the most confidence in rather than the one I think will work best.

I also still want to learn how to drive my boat better. I got 77.1 mph out of her this last summer, but know she has more.. a lot more..

lastly, I want to get better at SLOP jigging.. Gonna play a lot more with "punch skirt" type items..

Wow, you almost sound like me......lol

I really need to put the jig down and focus on these two things:

1. Gain confidence with the cranks! I keep buying them but never give them there fare share of time.

2. add more finesse fishing to my gameplan especially when fishing as a co-angler.

Last year I really focused on slop jigging especially on Tonka, and this is where I think your best chance of 4-5 pounders can come from.

Good thread Deitz.

MAO @ tonka.. welcome to the club.. I just want to win one a year.. thats my goal. One.. last year I won 3 in a row and thought i was in heaven! But the goal is to Win one!.. the year before It took me to my last tournament to win one..

Actually the more i think of it..I just want to win more than I pay out.. I have done that the last 9 years in a row.. going for 10...

Learn to be a better deep water fisherman, and at the same time learn how to make the most of my new HB SI, the two goals should go hand in hand. As far as tournments go, I want to improve on my 3rd place finish in our annual invitational, and be more consistant in our tuesday night league. Last season it took way to long to break into the top 3 and nearly the end of the year to post a win.

My goal is to be on the right fish every time I enter a tournament. Winning a large tournament requires the perfect blend of prefishing, timing, and getting the right bites.(dare I say luck!) When 50 to 100 anglers hit a body of water, you can bet that more than one of them has it figured out. I can leave an event satisfied if I knew I had found the right fish or the right pattern. The winning bag doesn't bite every time you have it figured out. It sure is fun when it happens! grin

Want to perform more consistantly in thursday league, stop doubting myself, continue to improve deep while not ignoring productive shallow water, incorporate and give the drop shot more time. Good thread Deitz! I saw (with camera) a couple real nice bass cruzing right on a deep weed line on my favorite bass lake while ice fishing for sunnies this past saturday... Prob in the 4 - 5 plus range. Kinda got the juices going already.

All about the big baits for me... I started using bigger baits sometimes smaller muskie baits and it has really started to pay off with bigger fish. You wouldnt catch and many fish but when you just need 5 or 8 in a day it really help pay off. So I think I will keep going bigger until the fish stop biting. Good luck everyone.

I have a few goals this year.

1) Cut back on all the gear in my boat, stuff that looks good but never gets opened.

2) Be more patient with a presentation. Drop shotting drives me nuts, but I want to learn and use it.

3) Fish with my wife and daughter at least month.

4) CRANK BAIT CRANK BAIT CRANK BAIT- I have them, get lucky once in a while, but like drop shotting, don't put a lot of effort into in because of frustration.

Hiya -

Deitz's resolution is to fish cranks. Mine is to fish them less wink I love deep weedline stuff but I need to fish jig & pig more this year rather than relying so much on deep diving cranks. I used to fish J&P deep all the time but kind of got away from it for some reason. So this year I'm going to put down the crankbait rod (probably have to leave it at home) and pick up something other than a crank or jigworm.

A couple others:

- Fish more aggressively for smallmouth. I love finesse stuff, but sometimes I know I miss the boat with smallies by not being aggressive enough.

- Fish shallow cranks more. I just never do it.

- Learn 3 new lakes (this is an annual goal).

- Keep learning about suspended smallies. The more I learn the less I know and the more fascinating it gets...

- Keep the string alive. I've caught at least one bass over 20" out of the lake my cabin is on for each of the last 20 years. going for 21...

cheers,

Rob Kimm

My resolution(s) would be to do more bass fishing. The only problem is that there isn't that many bass lakes close to me. (Okoboji is the closest one)

-Also I really want to fish in a tournament this summer.

-And finally just become a better all-around bass angler.

Well I have quite a few. Last year was the first year I fished bass with any seriousness. I became proficient with soft plastics, but that's about all I could master. This year I hope to figure out topwater and jigs for the most part, with a little spinnerbait and swimbait thrown in.

I would also like to expand the waters I fish. There aren't any "good" bass lakes within an hour of where I live, so it's a challenge, but I would like to try out at least 3 new lakes this year. Green Lake and Minnetonka are trips I'd like to make at least once.

Though more of a goal than a resolution, I'd like to catch a 6lb+ fish. PB this last year was at the 5lb mark.

I forgot one of my resolutions. I have been doing this for a few years now and think it would be great if others tried it. Take at least one person(kid or adult) that is brand new to bass fishing on a bass fishing excursion.

SuperDuty,

I did that twice last year at two tournaments (Pro-AM & non-bass fishing friend) and got lucky

and won them both. Think I spoiled them? lol One guy said

I made his day the minute I hit the throttle at blast off.

It was fun and validates your own abilities.

For my resolution,I want to drop shot more. I worm and split shot quite a bit but need to give it more of a chance.

My resolution: remember that I'm trying to catch an apex predator (well, for the most part an apex predator)of freshwater and not an apex predator of the African plains.

And what I mean by that is last year I found myself always slowing down and going for the more wounded presentations if I wasn't getting any bites. I think less than 5% of the time I actually decided to go to a faster presentation. I need to remember that bass, northerns, and muskies all can and will chase down anything. More often than not they have to hunt down their prey, not chomp down a free dinner.
