Thanks to the 2 guys that shot me!

Recommended Posts

OK, physically not as bad as the title.

I was hunting a WMA in the hutch-Glencoe area, with my dog. I kicked up a couple Roosters that flew to a gravel road ditch maybe a 75 yards up, at the edge of the WMA. I dropped a foot on one of them with a hail marry shot. A White truck drove by, saw the birds landing and slowed a bit. They then drove off, so i thought. I made my way to i guess 30-40 yards from the road ditch, where the birds landed.

All of a sudden the white truck comes flying in, stops and 2 guys jump out, guns uncased and loaded. One runs into the ditch and one stays on the road. I grab my dog, and hold her still. Bird gets up, I am right in the line of fire, behind the bird. Pop, pop, one of the guys shoots, and all i can do is crouch down and hide my face. Next thing i know its like the sound of hail around me. The SOB sprayed me. I could feel a couple of his shot, hit my back, even with layers on and land all around me. I hear 2 more shots. Wait a second look up and see their dog retrieving 1 bird. They missed the second bird which luckly flew over the road, and not at me. The driver, who must have let their dog out, then picked them up, and off they went. When leaving they drove right past me, as i was pretty close and walking parallel to the road ditch.

I had on blaze orange, I could see them, so they could see me. I still cant believe this happened, my blood is still boiling. I guess i needed to vent on here. I hope no one else has or had this happen.

Glad you are alright.

Definitely report it if you have any kind of description. Chances are they have done this before.

Jack_sses. You wonder why roadhunting gets a bad name......

oh boy i was mad. I thought about firing one off in the other direction. But figured it might make it worse.

No plates, My eyes arent what they used to be.

It was a new, white Ford Supper Duty, with some chrome, 3 guys low 40's.

when they got back in their truck, they brought their guns right into their seats with them. I guess i assume this is how they hunt. They went the direction of the bird that got away.

Loosers. Im glad i dint have a child with me.

I think a call to the sheriff would have been in order, even an hour later. Those guys sound like hard core roadhunters and were probably roading all over the county doing the same thing elsewhere, a county mounty might have been able to nab them with your description. Glad you were ok. The ahorns obviously have no concept of how far shot will travel.

I ended up making the call. The white truck is on a long list of complaints.

Its funny, i guess the fact that they shot me was not actually something they could arrest them for, according to the lady that took my call. Even if caught doing it. they could just say they didn't see me.

They could get them, if they can catch them in the act with the loaded guns in vehicle, shooting over road, etc. the lady said it is really tough to bust people. Hard to prove the guys didnt load guns once out of truck etc.

I would love to see these guys on the side of the road busted.

Loose their guns and truck and everything else. Unfortunately i doubt that would happen.

Even if they hadnt shot me, there is no room in the outdoors for these guys, they were trying to beat me to the birds, that i had kicked up. Just jerk-baits

I have been walking a creek towards a road and have had people drive up and wait for me to push the birds to the road where they flushed and shot the birds I worked hard for, but at least they didn't shoot towards me. I had no shot since they and their truck were in the way. We never had any of our ground poasted and then they acted like I was a jerk when I said they were no longer welcome on my land.

I've had this happen to me many times...can't believe the nerve of some people. Unreal!

Worse yet, we've had people do this to us while conducting deer drives on private property. Luckily, no one has ever been killed by these arseholes.

The best situation for a digital camera. I always have my compact camera in my jacket pocket. Less people would act like this if they knew their picture was being taken.

This is the best plan of action.

We busted some ya hoo a few years ago doing this. Everytime we would go out deer hunting on the adjacent land this guy would drive a bob cat or a 4 wheeler around his property specifically intending to disrupt the hunting (hunter harrassment). A few times this same guy has shot over the property as well to scare both hunter and hunted. So we went out with a video camera and one guy would be out in the open hunting so he could see him and i was in the weeds with the zoom on the video camera. He went into action driving his bobcat up the the property line going back and forth...making noise with the bucket. I zoomed in tight on his face with a few nice editing words in the back ground and filmed his actions for 45 minutes...going from the bobcat to the 4 wheeler just intent on making noise so no deer came around. We gave the tape to the DNR officer and he was prosecuted, charged and fined heavily.

But you gotta have proof.

Out here this is common they do it for deer hunting too. Why walk when you can drive. The worst this how the teach their kids to hunt so it starts all over again the next genration. Hopefully they bust the guys good and take everything away and do a big story with a picture in the paper. But knowing these guys they will write it up in the paper that the cops or DNR were picking on them.

It amazes me that this hill billy kind of lazy hunting exists. I can't call that hunting if you burn less than 5 calories doing it. It's road trippin with guns. Now, pipe in our case law and they'll be loaded up and blasting even quicker now not that they obeyed it anyway, I'm sure the back seat dude in the past could case em up faster then a CO could get to the driver's door. In my eyes it's just a blatant disregard to our laws and to the animal you are simply shooting and not hunting. I am glad you didn't get a pellet to the eye(s) etc. I was shot a few years back by richocheting(sp) pellets from a duck hunter, I just took a pocket knife and cut them/popped them out of my hands. At least the guy felt very remorseful and it was easy to tell he was being truthful, he owned his actions and didn't try to peel out of there.

And the DNR wonders why hunter recruitment has been decreasing. Who wants to go hunting when every and any [PoorWordUsage] with a gun can go "hunting".

That is not true. A felon cannot go hunting legally or even own a firearm.
