rod bag

looking for advice on a new rod bag. I had one of the kind that has a pvc pipe where the rods go in, but the pipe broke now and it's only been about a year. I want something a little tougher now looking for advice. I've seen a few of the wooden boxes with foam inserts and those look nice, just thought I would get everyone's opinion.

The stone legacy revolution rod bags are a must. Best one out there IMO. Lots of room for tackle storage and it fits 4 rods in it perfectly. It really keeps me organized!

My cousin uses one of the plastic arrow cases, one that holds maybe a dzn arrows. Think it is made by plano. I thought it worked pretty well, just have to collapse the reel handles down on some of the bigger reels, work without doing that on the smaller ice fishing reels. He was able to get 3 maybe 4 rod/reel combos in it.

I have a readyrig bag and loved it early season and will again this late season. It will hold 4-5 rods and tip-ups scoop map books and tackle box. Bad side.... it takes up alot of room in the fish house.

Got one of these at the ice show this year. Great bag. I really like it for tourneys and such as well.

Broke the rod tube?!....wow and I thought I was hard on my stuff. grin

The added weight would be a concern for me with a wood box. I've been using my Ready Rig rod bags for about 5 years now and have been very happy with them. I've got 3 of them and I can fit 3 rods in each. I use one for my kids rods, one for my walleye/perch rods, and one for my panfish rods.

There are a number of good rod bags on the market, but it might be tough finding them now.

I had a croxton pond bag. It was a smaller one than the one mentioned above. But I gave it to my son when I got the ready rig bag. It is a nice bag and you can use it as a back pack too. Which frees up your hands to carry oter stuff when walking out.

I am using a Marcum Rod Pac. I like it a lot. It has 4 rod tubes inside of it, but I have stuffed 6 in there with caution before. It has a couple extra pockets on the front for a couple small boxes and a can of soda or bottled water. That pocket is also the perfect size to hold a Lowrance H2O. I have had very good luck with mine. Hole hopping is pretty easy with it.

By far the best rock box out there is the Otter Rod Box. Its hard plastic sides and foam insert keep your pricey rods safe and sound.

Stone Legacy bags are great if they have the old design for rod storage. I dont care for the new ones with half round rod tubes. Not as much protection. I wound up putting full round tubes inside their half rounds to protect the guides better.

The Marcum bags are nice and Thorne Brothers has a few nice ones as well.

If you really want the best bags have Stone Legacy custom build you some. I have 3 LakerRod Bags made by them and they are awesome. A bit spendy but worth it.

I've got an older JR tackle rod bag. It has room for 6 rods, although I've fit 7. (4-5 is ideal) There is two seperate rod compartments so I keep my walleye gear in one side and my perch/crappie in the other. There is also 3 outside compartments, 1 is full length and will hold two tip-ups. The other 2 are smaller and fit all my tackle boxes/pliers/GPS. The zippers and very heavy duty as is the material the case is made of.

I couldn't be more satisfied with this bag, I have a few friends who run one also and everyone loves it.

I've had my Croxton Pond bag for years, bought off this site, I think. Each side pocket will hold two rods, the center pocket holds four more, with tackle box, GPS, scale, jerky, and lots of other stuff, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

I am using a plano break-apart shotgun case. Picked it up at FF for $21 and I love it so far. I can carry 5 combos in it if I am careful and with it having foam in it I don't have to worry about hooks stuck in fabric. I would recomend this setup for anyone not looking to spend alot of money on a case.

I have a Croxton Pond and also several JR tackle bags with a similar design. 4 individual sleeves with a center compartment that will hold tackle boxes or tipups or whatever. I took two plastic tubes and glued them in the two outside pockets for some added stiffness and have been very pleased with the way they have protected my equipment (even after a high speed spill off the 4 wheeler) They can be hard to find but less expensive than many and much better in my opinion

Another vote for the stone legacy, however I didn't know they changed their design. My buddy has one of those large croxton bags you can put your flasher in..I'm not impressed, that thing is huge and takes up too much room. I'll keep my flasher and rod bag separate and not take up 3/4 of the rear seat.

I've never been impressed with those bags that hold your Vexilar either. I've always kept my Vex in a 3 gallon bucket, fits perfectly, thats one of the reasons I bought the round holder instead of the blue box, put a towel over it to protect it, throw your headlamp and radio on top and you're good to go.
