Branta Bros.
I saw these in the cabelas 2009 master fishing catalogue. Has anyone used one? They are pretty affordable with good features like split grips and etc.
TurnUpTheFishing
They are new and I dont think they've hit any MN stores yet. I think they look good, too. I may pick up a few to increase arsenal.
DAD-N-EYE
I have one of the 7'6" flippin sticks. havent got a chance to use it on a fish but seems very nice. What the guy at St.Croix told me was is that it is the triumph with a split cork handle and a few more sizes to pick from. All in all it seems nice now i cant wait till texas to try it out. RK
Hiya - I got a chance to see the whole Mojo lineup when they rolled them out at ICAST - I played with them for quite a while in the St Croix booth. My lasting impression was that they were really a *lot* of rod for the money. It's pretty tough to find a comparable technique-specific selection of blanks at that price point. Some of the models that jumped out at me were the pitchin' stick, the drop shot rod and the frog rod. I might be getting a couple too. I don't fish frogs or rats a ton, but when you do, the right rod makes a big difference - most flipping sticks don't cut it. Something like the Mojo series makes having technique-specific rods for stuff you don't do all that often - or something you're just starting to learn and experiment with - a reasonable proposition without totally blowing up the budget. My $.02...Cheers,Rob Kimm
bemidjibasser
I believe that they are built on an sc II blank, which is the same material as the premier blanks. They look a whole lot sweeter than the premiers though. I have built a few sc II's and they are a very good rod for the money. So, the mojo's should be equally as good, if not better. SStracker
im looking to pick up at least 2 more rods for this up coming season. ill have to look into these.
Cecil
Great bang for the buck. Not many technique specific rods out there for $
mattrd
Ya I'm thinking about picking up 1 or 2. I need to get a drop shot rod, so this seems like a good way of getting a quality rod for the money. I have some of the Legend Tournaments and I'm a big fan of the St. Croix rods. Craigums
Great bang for the buck. Not many technique specific rods out there for $100 Not to change the subject but have you tried the All-Star ASR series rod? Comparable in price to the MoJo rods and technique specific, I really like them alot. The Mojo rods looks sweet and I will probably buy one this summer once I start seeing them in the stores. Ive always been a fan of St. Croix so I am confident they will produce a good rod.
Branta Bros.
Thanks again for the info, they sound pretty sweet! The only thing thats holdin me back is the five year warranty compared to say a crucial or similar which has a lifetime warranty.Hopefully cabelas or sportsmans will get some in with their spring order so I take a look at one in person! ikeslayer
i wouldn't worry about return policy too much it seems that cabelas and gander take it back no matter how many years you have had it. St. Croix makes good stuff and i think it was a wise decision on their part to cater to the weekend guy or at least the weekend guys wallet. ike
Cecil
I have rarely seen where Gander or Cabela's will return a Croix or Loomis. They are actually told by the vendor not to return the rods at the store. They can be used as a shipping and receving location and for Loomis they can do the expeditor program, but they shouldn't return them. Unless you have a connection that you can use, and even then it will be very tough to do. St. Croix is very good about returns though. If its outside the warranty, I have seen where they will offer a new rod at a discount. Nice thing about them is you will have a new rod in hand within a week or two. I will a nice feature about Shimano is the over the counter warranty, as long as you can find your rod at a store.
st.crioxfishin
These definitely aren't a bad rod for the money. Word has it that their selling like hot cakes in the bass pro stores down south. We've had them in our store down in iowa for about a month now and they've been selling fairly regularily.
TonkaBass
Just looked at them online and they sure look nice. They are gonna be a little heavier, but after you get used to holding one you'll probably never notice until you grab one of the lighter rods. I cant wait to pick one up and see first hand. My favortie flipping stick is the 7'6" premier just because it is so rigid, hopefully these are similar. If they are, I'm sure it wont be long before one's in my boat. TurnUpTheFishing
They have the weights on st. croix's site. They are actually within tenths of an ounce or lighter when compared to st. croixs other rods.
Ryan_Johnson
Joe's Sporting Goods off of Rice Street has them.
cjac
Thorne Bros. also has some of the St Croix Mojo rods in the store. Nice sticks for sure....I ended doing somewhat of a "blind taste test" with a few different rods in hand there tonight, I ended up leaving with a $60 Shimano Clarus rod, 6'10 MHF, it felt the same as the other rods to me, if not better. Something to consider, the price tag doesn't mean everything and the Shimano products are nice stuff, even at that price point.
zepman
The Clarus is very hard to beat given the price and quality that you get in the rod. Lifetime, over the counter warranty on a 60.00 rod also. Hard to go wrong there. I have the 7' MH and it's one of the most versatile rods I own. I'll have to stop in to TB and check the Mojo's out. Looking for a new pitchin stick this year.
st.crioxfishin
Being a st.croix guy myself, I have to agree with the above posts about the shimano rods... great rods for the money and warranty
SStracker
I just got 2 mojos from cabellas in the mail over the weekend and cant wait to try them out. I was comparing them with one of my avids and really impressed with it overall. i have a feeling ill get a few more once i get to really test them out on open water. rippinlips10
I purchased one from cabelas also and love the feel of em. Vant wait to break em in
olski
I did check these out at Cabela's today.I thought they were a great bang for your buck. I really liked the 6'9" dropshot spinning rod. I also took a look at the new Cabela's Prodigy rods. I thought that might be the way to go. All that was in stock was the 7'0" heavy but that rod felt REALLY good to me for alot of different things. The split grip and no foregrip really makes this rod balance out great when I put a reel on it. For $99 I think that would be the one for me. RiverBassGuy
I handled the Mojo Bass Rod this past weekend and I thought it was VERY heavy and unbalanced. I like St. Croix rods, but there are lots of better rods around the same price. Check out the shimano and daiwa rods for a way better value. zepman
I picked up the 7'6" Pitchin Rod and I thought it felt heavy and clumsy too. I didn't have time to compare it with other rods of the same nature but that was my first impression.
CarlWBL
anyone checked out the Berkley Lightning series, the new split grips? Price seems great but kinda wondering about what people think as far as sensitivity and quality.
