Im going up to Mille lacs in a couple weeks with some buddies gunna try our hands at some walleyes but I have almost ZERO experience walleye fishin over ice. I called the place we are staying with some questions and they were almost no help. If anyone could narrow it down a lil more as to a hand full of jigs and spoon I should try I would be very thankful. Thanks a bunch

Rattling Varmit. They offer a rattle in them and also glow.

A new jig for me this season is the Lindy Flyer spoon. This one seems to catch walleyes, crappies and catfish from what I have seen this winter.

Check out the JB Lures here.

I hope this helps and good luck.

I'm going to have to agree with k.L... I have a 1/4oz Perch colored Rattle Varmit tied on at all times it seems. They have a glass rattle on the inside that gives them a unique sound that no other lure has...

Just my opinion.

As for other lures, some Gem-N-Eyes are nice for a deadstick rod or for a rattle reel. Jiggin Rapalas work well too...

Good luck!

On a side note.. If I called a resort and they were no help like you said... I would choose a new resort.. THere are a ton up there and plenty of them have great staffs that will go out of their way to have your trip be an enjoyable one!

Bare hook and a fathead or small shiner is a great choice to throw down the hole. No jigging required so not a bad idea to have this setup down on a rattle reel or a pole that you can watch closely while you jig with your 2nd rod.

Set your bait no more than 6 inches off the bottom, just so that your minnow cant sit on the bottom, but close as possible.

Im no walleye pro, just a couple ideas for you.

i'd get a couple gem n eyes, rattlin varmints, glow demons, jiggin raps, chubby darters, and jig those with a smaller setup on a bobber next to you...either a small ice jig or plain hook with a fathead...i like glow hooks, chartruese, or red mainly.

this time of season "mid ice" i'd try some dropper rigs also...they make it easy for the stubborn lazy eyes to inhale the bait...take a jig like one of the ones mentioned and take the treble hook off....then tie on 4-6 inches of line and add a single hook and put on a minnow, waxy, minnow head , ect....the jig attracts and the easy meal they can gulp with no effort below the jig will sometimes seal the deal on the eyes that normally look at your jig but don't strike it.

There sure is a lot of selling here.

From a non-sales standpoint I have had pretty good success with the buckshot jigs tipped with the front third of a fathead. Oranges and golds work well and i use the size about 1 1/2" long, whatever weight it is.

I mostly use Angel Eyes, Rattlin' Varmits, and Go-Devils. For deadsticking usually a Gem'N'Eye or maybe a Frostee. On Mille Lacs I've always liked glow-green colors and firetiger or perch the best, and orange at times. And I agree with the flourccarbon line idea.

I also agree with Harvey, those rattling varmits with the glass rattle in them really bring the walleyes in. thats the only thing we could get them on my last trip up to the big pond. Those compared to the buck shots i believe are a big improvement. Not to put down any suggestions just relaying what has worked best for me this year

My favorite is a Northland glow in the dark Buckshot.... tipped with either the head of a fathead or the entire fathead minnow(head works good for perch, the whole minnow works good for walleyes). My buddies will be sitting right next to me with another jig on, but I always get more bites with this buckshot. In low light, zap it every once in awhile with your flashlight/headlight.

I haven't really specifically targeted Walleys this year, but have had great success with jigging raps, and keep one tied on at all times. While jigging for pannies, if I see a walter pop up and say hi to the Marcum, I'll drop a rap down, and most of the time it gets them to bit.

Other 'eye jigs tied on at all times are a rattling spoon, Angle eye or Go devil, and a tear drop with large hook and a minnow. While I'm not a walleye fisherman, I don't want to be caught with my pants down blush

I should mention that I'll use any one of these jigs when nothing's on the screen to try and attract something in. I think Sunfish have the small dog complex grin

I just wanna thank everyone... I had no ideas what to go to the sore and buy. Most likely woulda bought the lures with the most flashy packages... Now I feel like a pro. thanks guys!

Remember, fishing lures are designed to catch fisherman as much (if not more than) fish. Pretty much anything will work, and be leary of those with a vested financial interest.

My news years resolution was to worry less about the tackle in my box, and the rod in my hand; and more about the fish in the lake.

You can chase the Jones all day.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
