they came from South Dakota actually...there are a ton of little gems that people dont know about in South Dakota. We actually went back to the same spot the next winter and didnt catch a single gill. I might try to make a trip back to SD and try out there again.

yeah i know i really really wish i would have released them...usally im all catch and release but me and my friends really did want to mount them but like i said couldnt end up affording it. and guys i really dont need anyone telling me about catch and release because i never usually keep a single fish when im fishing no matter gills, crappie, bass, or walleye.

Probably a bona fide freshwater shrimp lake...our big scud lakes are all but gone in Minnesota. It's usually short lived, even in SD...those shrimp are really vulnerable and usually exist in fishless basins...if a couple gills get in, reproduce, the following generation goes nuts, grows like crazy, and you get those monsters bulls.

You guys make we want to keep every fish I catch just out of spite. The guy only has 13 gills on the ice and only 3 or so are huge. He made it sound like he has been there twice in a year lol. There are 10s of thousands of bluegills in lakes like that. The people that end up ruining it are the greedy locals that don't tell anybody about the spots because they know if everybody kept as many as them the lake would be dead.

You make people feel bad for sharing there photos for no reason. Shut up and let people fish.

My neighbors and I went out this weekend and nearly limited out on Crappie for the four of us. Most of them were on the small side, but we did have a few 9-10 inchers. We filleted them and fried them up for appetizers for the big game. Unfortunately, our luck didn't transfer over to the Vikes.

Bassfshn24 great gills ,I also love chasing the gills.Don't let people on here ruin it by saying you kept every fish in the lake.I would of put a few in the bucket also.I also hit a few ponds in SD every fall and winter.Catch 16 crappies and nice big gills, with all the walleyes you want.We are heading back out in Feb. to hit the crappies and perch.Just found a nice perch pond with good sizes.

@Burnham, I don't think the admins liked the links I posted. I had replied to you, but that post was deleted as well.

I'd still like to help you, but since I can't view your profile, I can't email you. Contact me through the link if you remember it. Otherwise, use my sig to search for me.

I've been moving around some ,but some are from my old haunts.

I've sorta switched gears targeting these bigger gills.

It's great to have 10's and bigger to fight and release.

In a few weeks it will be time to switch gears to load up on those tullies for the smoker.

mmmm....tullies. I can't wait for when they start going this year. I went up once last year and got skunked. I was there prime-time, too, the ice was coming off the shorelines and I thought it was perfect. Fished out of probably 300 holes, all over the lake, didn't mark hardly any and didn't catch one. Got a couple of nice crappies, though.
