Did a little bit of research on a pit that I fish every once and a while. Last year biggest sunfish was about 7.5", on this day I got 5 at atleast 8". I Stopped measuring after 60 fish, overall average size was 5.9". Caught true greens, and what looks like a Green Pumpkinseed Hybrid. 8 were the hybrids and the other 52 were greens. Hybrids went from 4.5-6.5", and greens went from 3.5-9.5".

I have never gotten a 9.5" green until this day. Puts up a heck of a fight on the flyrod.

Here are the Hybrids? confused

me and DrRodey did well with the crappies again today. it seems like with the cold weather the crappies are kind of in their fall mode. we were finding them in fall feeding areas, we were fishing in 3 FOW. they were falling for tubes, and light tube jigs. just cast and let it sink SLOWLY. jiggling, and reeling it REAL slow on the retrieve caught some, but most were caught on the fall. average size was about 10".

we did not take any picture where we were catching them, so dont expect to find them where these pictures are taken =P

Nice fish Carpman! I haven't been into any crappies since this spring. Maybe I'll have to take a day away from the eyes this week and go out for a bite like that. Nothing like the fight of a crappie!

thanks. i highly recommend it. just be sure you target fall feeding areas, or staging areas right outside the fall feeding areas. that seemed to be the key. the cool weather has really had an effect on the fishing. and depending on the species, it was a good effect. lol

like i said, we were only fishing in 3 FOW

be sure to fish light. we found that if your jig sunk to fast, the crappies wouldnt even bother with it.

i believe we were using 1/64oz tube jig heads. and the magic colors seemed to be either silver, or red and silver. basically anything with silver flake.

tight lines!

I always wonder how people enjoy those little bite sized chips you get off crappie like that. For me they have to be 12+.

the best eating size crappie is in the 9-11 inch range!!!....I will eat up to 12 maybe 12.5 but anything bigger and it doesn't taste right......earlier this year I had gone with my father in-law and he wouldn't let me throw back a 13.5 and he kept his 14.5 and I let him keep the fish as I told him those are two big to eat....well he took them home and ate them called me and said "you are right those bigger fish tasted like [PoorWordUsage]"....

Personally, I prefer to release the 12+ to spawn and will keep the 9-11" fish for the pan..

same. 12+" are usually released. unless the fish was deeply hooked like the one i got. i accidently ripped one of its gill rakers.

other than than that. 12+ are always released

but then again i dont eat fish, so i rarely keep them. lol
