cRaPpiEMaN8265
Had 9-11" on all the lakes in Siren area I was on.. Very slushy out there especially on the lakes with aerators or a bit less ice.. There is more than a foot of snow on the ground/lakes now which is pushing some water up through the cracks and such.. Saw 1/2 ton trucks parked on many area lakes but they are nuts!?Caught some nice crappies and a bunch of bull gills..Ryan
Fisherman24
Crappie man,What lakes in the siren area do you fish?I live on crooked and started ice fishing in the area. So far I have just fished crooked and lower clam. Both lakes are ok to fish. They don't have much structure and are not the most fun to fish. Where do you like to fish in the area? I don't know the area that well and can't seem to find a good panfish lake.I have fished Yellow in the summer and I was thinking about trying it in the winter. you ever fished it? I hear its got some decent walleye fishing.-Fisherman24
cRaPpiEMaN8265
Yellow is good for eyes in summer but i have only fished it once a few years ago in the winter.. Try looking at some maps and find the smaller lakes and give them a shot.. Clam is good but gets a lot of pressure. There are some really good little potholes out there with some fish in them. I mostly fish north of Siren but I'm not going to give up any lake names because most of them could be ruined if you get 2 or 3 shacks out there.Good luckRyan
Fisherman24
Great thanks. When you fish for em do you go toward the basin of the lakes or try weedlines or even right in the weeds?
cRaPpiEMaN8265
Try to find some bowl shaped lakes with one main hole 20-40' deep for crappies and for gills i like fishing right in the weeds this time of year then on the deep weedline later. Its very rewarding when you do find some gems!Ryan
nwwisco23
the whole point of fishing up there is NOT running into anyone... the days where I see a ton of other boats/houses are the days I head in early...no bass clubs, but plenty of space to be out on your own... nolte
As for tourney's leagues, there isn't much. I think that the Maine Store has a weekly fishing league where they hit up a different lake each week during midweek. No prizes I don't think, just a few guys fishing. As for bass tourneys, there is one at the Minerva Chain of lakes in June, I think. A better bet would be a bit south down towards Balsam Lake. They've got a few down that way. Other than that there is a walleye tourney in the summer on yellow and maybe another in the fall. Plus a Ski tourney sometime too. Winter has a bunch of different ice tourneys all over the county. DonBo
So now that the walleye season is over I'm pretty excited about getting the boat in the water.I'll be on Yellow I'm sure, but there are dozens of good lakes in the area. What's your favorite early open water crappie lake?
snoozebutton
I don't have a favorite. My son in law has a lot of friends that fish constantly and for some odd reason, they like me and tell me where they're biting. That being said, Long Lake can be good, I've hit them on Lipsett and Rice and occassionaly Chetek near Birchwood. I don't get much farther west than Lipsett or Rice though. snoozebutton
Scratch Rice as one of my favorite crappie lakes. Not a one tonight (well, 2 real small ones). We did manage 13 decent bluegills but we had to catch 50 or more to get the 13 we kept. Pretty slow day.
DonBo
You got 50 gills and it was a slow day? Man, I'd love to fish with you on a good day!

JAR JAR
Can't wait for ice out to hit the Minong. Prefer to fish it after opener because you catch the crappies and walleyes in the same area. Jar Jar
Scott K
I have done some fishing up in this area, I have a cabin between Trego and Minong, and My inlaws have a cabin off of Long Lake. There are alot of little lakes with huge fish in them. I have fished a quite abit aroung Long Lake, alot of those little lakes have huge fish in them. One of my goto lakes for Sunnies is Potato Lake off of 70, although I havent fished it in 2 years, but I would always pull some nice fish out of there, and have caught many. What I did is got myself a book of lake maps for Washburn county, and if I couldnt drive to it with the truck, there usually is a atv trail to it. There are some Gem lakes all around this area. I need to get back up there soon.

bpoli2
Will be moving to the Siren area in the near future and wondering if there are any (many) lakes that have decent size panfish within a 20 mile radius of Siren. Do not need specific spots and or lakes just wondering about the fishing. Thanks
