Trail Cam Pics

That's typical Bass N Spear.

I'm not a big fan of hunting like the natives did. We won with the guns long ago.

Bow hunters lose more game than any other type of hunting.

On the other hand, there are some who actually use bow hunting for what it was intended for......waiting and stalking that big buck that you scouted for years.

sounds like someone is anti-archer. firearms hunters wound deer also, but with more devestation. practice makes perfect with all forms of shooting. gun, bow, shotgun. it's rushed and poor shots that wound animals, not bow hunters.

at least a poor shot with a bow doesn't blow an entire leg off of the animal.

Just because you can't see the bullet or slug on a trail cam, doesn't mean archers lose more game. I would be willing to bet on % that more deer are wasted during gun season than during archery season. Like Vister said, poor shot making and shot selection are a problem with both.

I agree, i use both gun and bow, both have a chance of wounding and not killing, but saying archers wound more then anyone is a bunch of [PoorWordUsage], think how many bowhunters hunt each year, then think of how many gun hunters there are each year just a few more gun hunters then bow hunters

Yeah, I've gotta agree with the last few posts here Roofer. Gun hunters wound plenty of deer also, and by sheer number of hunters would most likely wound more than bowhunters. Vister said it best by saying that most archery misses or non-fatal shots are mostly a case of rushing the shot. Whatever you are shooting, it's always a good reminder to only take ethical shots that you feel confident in.

No doubt some archers wound some deer but I would say the percentage is about the same as rifle hunters. Now judging by the larger number of rifle hunters I would say they wound a lot more. Lets not but the blame on one group or another, it is the individual who makes the shot.

Roofer- them is almost fightin words. I know you dont have any facts to back that.

This is the Trail cam pics post... I recommend we dont even open that can of worms.

He already opened it.

I've shot deer before with healed wounds from bullets or arrows. I shot a decent buck a couple of years ago with a wound not more than a couple days old. It was pretty much just a big gash along the brisket. I know it was with a bullet because it was my meatheaded cousin who shot at it two mornings before i got him. Would it have been fatal?? Who knows. And why would you have to mention "like the natives did",and "we won with guns." Archery has been around for thousands of years all over the world. Have a little respect roofer.

Ignorance. Every statement you just made... stick to the home improvement forum where your advice is actually sound.

I really dont think this is the place to say something like that roofer specially when a lot off people archery hunt on this site and everyone is right you have no facts to back that up. If you could see the people around my house that slug hunt( not saying everyone is like this) but they shoot out the windows, take 250 yard hail mary shots, trespass, and if they dont see that deer fall most of them just keep on driving because they know they are dis obeying the law. And everyone on this site probably has this same problem. So how many of those deer do you think get gut shot or take a leg off and they could care less. again im not saying you are like this but it just goes to show that everyone can loose deer no matter what weapon they choose. At least most bow hunters know when they made a bad shot becasue they are so close to the animal and most put in ALOT of hard work to try and recover that animal!

I bought my first camera this year, well actuall like 2 days ago. It's been hanging now since Wednesday night. I had to do some raking and stuffing those darn pumpkin leave bags with the kids last night so I will be out checking it probably tomorrow. Where have you had the best luck placing the cameras??? It looks like most decent pictures are over some sort of minerals or something like that. I put mine on a scrape line not too far from my house. Do you guys come up with a lot of empty pictures while it's on a trail? MIne is on the lower end of the camera totem pole, so it probably doesn't have that quick of a capture time. Another question is, how many quality pics do you get compared with missed shots or deer a$$es and such??

I’ve been hunting since I can remember. Seven yrs ago I started bow hunting. Since then, my gun hunting success has increase dramatically. I owe all my gun hunting success to everything that I learn from being a bow hunter.

BTW, LeechBait How big was that sturgeon in your avator and where did you catch her at?

Very Very nice fish!

Checked mine yesterday and I had over 300 images just from Sunday. I would say about 100 of the images had does in them. The laser aiming helps leave out the half deer images, because the cam makes sure the subject in the area for several second before the image is taken. Also I set my up right off the main trail in a protected/kind of closed area.

The remainder of the images where of squirrels, raccoons, one possum and now some rabbits. I have gotten a couple images of nothing in the area, but very few. The laser aiming helps rule out leaves moving, unless they are moving for over several seconds. My area is out of the wind also, which helps while being in the woods, but not enough where the deer would be skittish not to hang out (at least does).

I think I will start getting some bucks soon. I know they are in the area, but I think we need to see does come into season to get the bucks to come in my area. I think if you can get a good doe hang out, the bucks will follow wink

Very Very nice fish!

Caught her on the Rainy River a few weeks back it was easily 55-60" and it had a lot of girth. Had a tape that went to 32" and that didn't even reach half way down the sturgeons back so I didn't get a decent measurment it was rollin around so I just picked her up and snapped a couple pics and threw her back in. I have more pics of it if you page back in the Detroit Lakes area forum a few weeks ago.

Ok fellas. I stand corrected to a point. Let's just say there are more gun hunters than bow hunters and most of the wounded are found when there are more people in the woods. I have facts just from the people that I know that both bow and gun hunt, and are pretty good shots.

I will remember the words spoken here when someone tries to tell me something in the home improvement section (or anywhere else) with no facts to back it up. smile

To stay on topic.....

I have about 75% bad shots with my old moultrie camera. It is a 1.3 mgpx camera, so it is a few years old as far as technology.

I will be putting out my new scoutguard 550 tomorrow and will see what I have by the end of next week.

I hope mine isn't as bas as yours, it's a moultrie too, it's a d40 gamespy 4.0 megapixel. I'm just hoping it works. I have it in an are I haven't hunted before about a 1/2 mile from my house. I put it on a nice scrape line/trail between two sloughs. I'll post pics on Monday if I get any.

Nice healthy looking deer.

For the people who know what they are talking about......are those deer in the above pics just young or malnourished? The body look very healthy, but the antlers don't look as good. We have this more up north also.

When I finally found an 8 to shoot up there, it was well over 200 lbs, and was a very mature buck.
