matthothand
fishcast, almost all of my 18+ inchers lately have been on the outside weedlines. I've cranked some nice fish on some mid-lake humps and rocks too. Pretty much all deep in some way or another with the exception of the 21.5 after skipping a dock. shedfreak
hey Matt, it was a mickey mouse pole by the way, but you were close... Looks like you are the guy to talk to about gettin on some bass.. Whats ur heaviest ever? Some of the ones posted look like would have to go 8.... man you gotta get after that state record, its so in reach.. 8-15, cmon. thats nothin... for a record anyway...no more topless pics either by the way, your scarin away all the chicks... well except for the ashland women....( from the grocery store! haha) jailbait
matthothand
Yeah, sorry. I'll try to keep my shirt on for ya. I don't know what my heaviest bass weighed. The ones in the pic were not close to 8. The one above that I am holding two in...they were 4lb 14oz and 5lb 3oz. I usually don't weigh unless it's in a tourney. I killed a 7lb 2 oz largie for the wall a few years ago. I caught that one pre-fishing for a local tourney. My biggest bass though was actually a smallie that taped out at 23 1/4". I was 17 and didn't even think about a skin mount or getting a weight. At the time my buddy and I had caught multiple 22's and this was just another "pig smallie". I don't even want to know what that one weighed. It was just before the end of the season in the fall too. I do have a lake in my back pocket that I plan on fishing heavily this fall. The state record is within reach but I'll keep falling ounces short and some muskie fisherman will get it in the end. Not that it's a bad thing...just my prediction. Big bass take different approaches and I don't think it'll come easily to a typical "bass" spot and "bass" tactics. I am also gunning for the redhorse sucker record. We've got some monsters down here
TurnUpTheFishing
Fishcast, is the the first pic and fourth pic from the same lake? It appears to be. If it is I fish there often, lots of pigs.
matthothand
I must be butter, cause I'm on a roll! Sorry...I know it's not that punny. On Sunday afternoon I hit the lake again and a lot of my deeper spots were congested with recreational traffic so I elected to fish slop, inside edges, and docks. Plenty of mediocre fish in the slop and edges, but my four dock fish were pigs. They were all from 20-22" and the pics were awkward to take by myself. Three of them are below. The fourth didn't make it on camera since I was getting a lecture for making a perfect skip under a gorgeous dock. Apparently the dock owner also fishes and is mighty protective of his territory. I don't blame him. It was a good spot Also, sorry again (especially to you Shedfreak) for the topless shots. It was pretty balmy out.

matthothand
Thanks Bassnspear. I love the "hog days of summer". Chances are good I'll have some more after tomorrow's trip as well. I'm just feelin' it. Here's some more from the last couple days though.... Unless otherwise noted the rest of my bass are between 20" and 21". Twenty inches has been my picture benchmark for largies. ....another trip by my lundsome self. The pig from "sunburn sunday" on chisago. After taping out at 22.0" I wish I had a tape to get her girth because she was obese! My biggest bass of the season.
Juan Grande
Matt,This is probably a dumb question, but what's the advantage of using those rods with the gap between the cork, like the ones to left in your last picture?Do they weigh less?
