The only hooks I will use are Gamakatsu, Have tried others and they just don't seem to be a tough as Gamakatsu. Most of the time it's the EWG. I have also used the Superline hooks for flipping, They don’t busted in half when you are flipping with braided line. (I set the hook really hard grin.gif) I’m going to try the Gamakatsu Skip Gap hooks this year as well.

The Stand Out Hooks look like a great deal for drop shotting, I’m going to get some of them!!!

Here are mine(I dont have a hook sponsors, so I pay full price for all these.)

Treble-VMC Vanadium(very inexpensive and very good!)

Worm/Plastics-Mustad Ultra point(hold plasti on better as they ahve a very harsh bend)

Dropshot-Standout hook(I prefer the black as I feel its sharper which is very important to me.. the red is not as sharp but much easier to find.

Pretty much all Mustad ultra points unless I find the need for a specialty hook only made by someone else. I have rolled the point on way to many Gamakatsu hooks. Will not use them if there is any chance of hook contact with wood, metal, rock.

Same for me. I love the way the hooks last and make a clean hook set.

for heavy cover using braid: Owner Rig 'N hook. Worms and Plastics: Gammy EWG. Docks, skipping soft stick baits: Gammy offset. Drop shot: Owner Mosquito.

Also like the gamakatsu ewg hooks and use them for most all of my soft plastics, I've used the superline hooks and like them for there strength and also cause in certain cases I use them to get a weightless plastic to drop a hair faster or cast farther with the heavier hooks, but I wish they sold them in a bulk pack. Also used the mustad drop shot hooks in something like #2 and they have worked well for me so far. I don't hardly throw hardbaits for bass yet and have never changed out hooks on them, are most people changing trebles out for sharper hooks than the stock hooks or is there another reason like balance or sink rate of bait or something else?

the best hooks i have ever used hands down were not gammi or Mustad but x-point they were on sale for .75 a pack and are usually 6 bucks for 5 hooks. They are made from surgeons medal and are amazingly sharp like broadhead sharp. I don't even know if they are still being made but i only use them in tourneys now cause i am running low. AMAZING HOOKS but very expensive. can still find them for cheaper on the net but shipping will get you.

X points are very sharp, but the problem with it falling out of favor is that X points are known to cut very large gashes in fish when they are not precisely jawed hooked. It cuts in 4 directions, and those kind of lacerations mean very big open holes on hard fighting fish, allowing fish to throw the hook. Further more big long laceration cuts means very low survival chance of escaped fish.

I pretty much used skip gaps all last year for plastics. If you get annoyed at plastics sliding down the shank as I do your going to love them. Used stand outs for drop shotting as well but have trouble finding the right sizes around here. I will be ordering some though as they really work well.

Gammy's for the most part. I do agree that the points roll on Gammy's easy. But I think it's because they are thin wire hooks. Thus I buy the 25 pack:) Thin wire hooks and spinning gear is like peanut butter and jelly.

Ultra Point is my 2nd choice.

I like the VMC trebles dressed with a feather or red.

Gamakatsu for me for everything - EWG trebles, EWG worm hooks, drop shot hooks, and even weedless EWG's for wacky style.

I don't like their new skip gap hooks as I don't feel the bite is big enough but can't wait to get my hands on the 4/0 EWG's with solid ring in eye.

Hiya -

I use Mustads for cranks/topwaters - either TripleGrips (love those things) or round bend short shank UltraPoints, depending on the bait.

For plastics I use Mustad MegaLites light wire wide gaps for tubes or other plastics I'm throwing on spinning gear (EBass - try these. UltraPoints that won't roll over like the Gammys, on a light wire hook...), or UltraLock EWGs for flipping or T-rigging.

For drop shotting, I use Owner Mosquito hooks.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I use Decoy for almost everything now. Awesome hooks, just need to do a little searching to find them. The Decoy Hunter Hook Worm 16 is by far my favorite Wacky hook, and I use Decoy KG Hook Worm 17 for T-Rigging and Senkos. By far my favorite hooks I have found.

Gamakatsu - Superline for almost all plastic T-rigs. Never have had a problem with points rolling over on them. I like the skip gap hook, but find that after boat flippin a bunch of fish they start to bend out because of the light wire. They are great for t-riggin a senko for skippin under docks or trees. Excalibur rotating for trebles, or the sure sets. I want to try the new Owner weedless wacky hook. Saw some new hooks on another web site that have real promise for throwing toads. I also like the action I get from the Superline hooks with the solid ring line tie.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
