Strike master auger

I have a 9" three blade strikemaster auger that doesn't cut holes worth a !@$^ ! When I checked to see if the blades were sharp, it cut through my thick glove into my finger, so the blades seem sharp! Its 3 years old, and it never seemed to cut as good as my 10" jiffy, but I got sold on 3 blades are better than 2. Any advise?

Have you ever pushed down on it while cutting? The blades may be out of pitch, so no matter how sharp they are they won't cut effectively. I would call or stop into Strikemaster in Big Lake and they'll be able to help you out. They're customer service is second to none. I see you're in Blaine so it's not too bad of a trip.

One small nick in the blade and it won't cut not matter how sharp the blade is. So look close at the edge, if theres a nick replace the blade.

Now if the blades are good and it has something to do with quality control, bad design or what ever, SM needs to know so they can correct them. When the auger was new would have been a good time to do that. With quirks like blade alignment, bad batch of blades, won't run out of the box, broken handles, broken flutes, bad gear boxes, and so on you better have good CS! Give them the model and year and they'll know by history whats up.

Make that call!

Fishpondc -

I see you live in Blaine. I would try taking it to D-Rock in New Brighton and they should be able to look it over for you. They are a StrikeMaster rep and repair center. That is were I always go for parts or any issues with my Strikemaster.

I was on Mille Lacs last Saturday and my recoil spring broke. Took it to D-Rock on Tuesday and they replaced the spring for me in less than 10 minutes. They have great service.

Wasn't the 3-blade auger painted red and called something like the Lazermag Ultra? I thought I remembered that it was a short lived design that had problems from the get go. I think it was a blade pitch issue, and I'd go to SM directly and see if they wouldn't swap it out, or at the very least check the blade pitch. Are those 3-bladers even available anymore?

I just love it when non-sponsors get ripped and could never be good as a sponsor's product.. Jiffy has never had a problem their augers - certainly not . . . and of course Nils, even if you could buy one in a store, has never had a problem . . . my goodness no . . .

This gets so sickening . . . if companies don't make good product, they go away. Strikemaster has been around for 60 years and I imagine Jiffy has been around for a while too. Every once in a while, no matter how good the product, you get a clunker or it gets out of tune - I don't care if it's a TV, car or dinner out. Good companies make it right.

I deal with strikemaster all the time with bringing in my auger or bringing in friends augers for them. THEY HAVE THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AROUND!!!! They will take care of you trust me. Every time I am there unless it is catostrophic they take care of the problem while you wait......and on top of it most of the time they don't charge a dime!!!! I will never buy anything but Strikemaster!!! Good Luck

Shorelunch, I didn't see SM getting ripped. I see SM standing behind their product when its "faulty" with good CS as they should.

In the short time this thread has been up we've seen some folks with the same auger and same problem. Some have gone though SM CS and were taken care of, some have lived with it. Its my opinion that a company would rather have a satisfied customer then one that goes years using their product with mediocrity. I'll tell you now if it were a sponsor I'd be getting the word out and have done so.

As far as the get a jiffy comment, I can appreciate the humor.

This is simple.

Strikemaster had a lot of problems with the 3 blade augers. I believe they even went through two different designs to get it to function properly. It didn't work, they don't make them anymore.

Give Strikemaster a call. Tell them what your problem is, and that you are not satisfied. It won't be hard for them to repitch it for you, but they'll probably offer you up a 2 blade Lazer auger assembly in exchange.

Those 3 blade auger assemblies were very temperamental and Strikemaster knows this.

Let us know how it works out for you!

The other thing to be sure of is that the blades you have are made of good metal. last year I bought a strikemaster, it came with blades "made in China" needless to say they were junk. I didn't notice they were from china until one of the blades actually broke! Pretty disappointing from a local company.

I also vote for the call to Strikemaster, and wouldn't want the auger re-pitched, because it was the overall design that was flawed and the problem likely will re-occur. I'd get the drill replaced with the two-blade system with diamond center point. Knowing Strikemaster CS like I do (I've been using them for 11 years), I doubt you'll pay a nickel for the swap.

Just got off the phone with the bro in law, and he is going to give them a call. He thought he would just have to live with the problem, but now has some sense of hope that this can be resolved. I too am looking at a new auger in the very near future (Mrs. Boatfixer says after I sell the other 2 I have) and CS will defintely play an part in the decision. Both my Dad and Dad in law, have Jiffy STX stealths, and couldn't be happier, so no complaints But I am , however, interested in the Strikemasters, because of the excellent CS I hear about, as well as quality built product. I previously had been turned away because of the Bro in laws problem, but I'm beginning to see what the problem has been. I'm very impressed with SM's willingness to take care of this.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
