Back yard giant!!

Recommended Posts

Here is a deer that is in a buddy's back yard. This is last nights pic. I have lived around here all my life and do not recall seeing one this big and with such long tines. I would guess he might be a booner, if not he is close. What are your thoughs on the score of this buck? Oh and also this should get you rifle hunters excited!!

Way more than P&Y minimum...

I think Booner might depend on if he's a 5*6 or a 6*6 and how wide he is. Hard to tell from that angle if that last point is there on his left and also hard to tell how wide. SURE SHOOTER THOUGH! I'd take a wild guess @ 164 3/8" because he is really tall...

If I could just win the lotto I would make an offer he could not refuce.

He is a 5X6 and may not be 20 wide but his beams are long as are the tines. He makes an adault doe look like a late fawn so he is very big, takeing away from antler size in view. Also I know of a 180 something that was shot and he does not have much on this deer. I really think he would make 170 or more.

If this deer gets taken in this area I should hear about it and I will seek out the score.

Since its a 5x6 and one gets the deduction for the 1 point, I would guess it would nor make the B & C book. Very nick buck but it takes a pretty good deer without and points deducted to make it.

I have a almost perfect 6x6 that scored 172 and its not quite that tall but its rack is very even. Mass plays a huge roll in the final score.

Good luck chasing that bruiser. smile.gif

Who cares what he scores! that is an awesome buck, and you should try to get him and put him in your own trophy book! And on your wall! grin.gif I dont get into scoreing because when its all said and done, its always about hunt, and numbers really dont matter! I think scoreing takes the value away from a great deer.

I understand the whole scoring thing, but I tend to agree. If I like the bucks rack & it's big or at least definitely bigger than I've ever shot I don't really care about the score either. To me it takes something away from the hunt when guys just start talking about them by how many inches of antler they have. There's nothing really wrong with it, it just seems a little, I don't know, sterile maybe.

Either way that is one awesome buck. I was curious to know if he was a booner or not as well, just to try to understand how big they have to be. I know they gotta be really BIG.

I think gross score is good because it gives people an idea of what a deer really has, but I think that people that get too NET crazy often dont give the deer the credit it deserves!

It takes a true GIANT to Net over 170 B&C! I think this buck is close? His Brow tines are very short and the fact that hes a 6x5 is going to hurt. He might gross over 170 but I bet he doesnt net it. What an awsome buck though!

I have to agree with bigbucks. I shot what I considered a very nice ten pointer last year. Most of the tines were about 9 inches, but he's not much outside the ears, and one tine was only 1 inch. So he's more like a 9. At any rate, I was thrilled. My neighbor had me go to the deer classic with his monster, and get them scored. We both came away disappointed at our scores and it taints the feeling a bit. I guess I would've rathered I didn't know. I assumed mine was 150 class, but it was 137 net. The deductions killed it... and my fantasy football buddies were all jealous, and now they're like "137, oh, I thought it was bigger than that...." Just diminishes the elated feeling a bit.

Kinda like last years twins or this years rockies... They go on this incredible end-of-the-year run, but get swept in their last series... leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Like you think your girlfriend is a trophy, and then you get her tested and she has clamidia, better off if you didn't know. tongue.gif

remember that guy that was on here last year, did a guess the score with one that had been scored. He promised the winner a shot at a 140 class deer... near chatfield I think. Anyone know how that turned out?

Not trying to argue, but...

"Who cares what he scores!"

That is a question, whether you got the punctuation right or not.

Gofishleech started this thread and was curious what it would score. Not trying to pick on you, was just trying to keep the topic on point. Sorry about the rub.

I don't get worked up much about "scores" either (just look at my buck from this year). A nice buck is a nice buck, and this one is great!
