I'm so sick and tired of him and his DARN wind I could just PUKE!! I have a weakness in fishing and its Wind... I just do not adapt well to it. Ray on the other hand litteraly wishes for the stuff. So... With that being said... I am holding him personally responsible for all this dump weather we have had as of late!

Ray- you will not be getting an X-Mas Gift from me this year unless you cut this stuff out!

It really has been windy.. I don't remember winds likes these ever! Almost every day.. and very gusty. Especially noticeable to me fishing from my 14' boat. It really does STINK!

I honestly dont mind fishing in the wind, becuase there are ways of fishing bass that you wouldnt fish them when its calm out. It has paid off for me with this, but ont he other hand, its starting to get old, becuase its windy all the time.

I do like wind. I don't need it, but I can't say that it frustrates me wildly.

I think wind (within reason) offers up some advantages while bass fishing. One, if it is not a big blow on the heals of a significant pressure change, it pushes the fish higher in the water column. They're more willing to eat crank baits, they practically push each other out of the way to eat a vertical presentation, they school more tightly, and move around some. The fish just stay active longer.

I also like it during any competitive fishing situation. Many boats change their game plans based on the wind. I don't. Hence, more areas for me to fish.

I'm with ya Dietz - I hate the wind to, but a slight breeze is nice.

Here's my game plan on a lake when it's windy. Hey that's a calm spot over there. Sometimes I do venture into the wind swept shoreline or point, then realize that I'm a big bobber and get sick of going up and down and up and down and...

Hiya -

Gotta go with Wayne and Ray on this one. Bring on the breeze baby. Wind cuts down light penetration, creates wind current, stirs things up. Predators thrive on chaos and turmoil. Give me a wind-blown cabbage point, and I'm a happy, happy bass fisherman. Yeah, it can be tough to fish a jig sometimes, but use fluoro line to keep the bow out, and keep your rod tip down... You'll live smile.gif Plus I sort of like casting crankbaits down wind. 10# Fluoro, a 7'11" rod, and a Lews Speed Spool, if you really haul off and let 'er buck, you can barely see a DT-16 land wink.gif

Part of why I like wind might be that I grew up on the prairie, where it's always windy. The other thing is my background with muskies. Wind is a huge factor in locating muskies, especially on big water (the chaos and turmoil thing I mentioned.) Caught some of my biggest muskies in big wind on shallow spots - neck downs between islands, wind-blown reefs and shorelines. Wind current can get so strong and pile up so much water in a current neck-down it can seem like you're fishing downhill... Plus fighting a 50-inch fish while trying to keep your boat off the reef is sort of exciting... Having a lot of confidence in fishing in the wind for muskies definitely carries over to bass fishing. Same factors are at play. Good news is if the wind's doing its thing and the fish are up and chasing, you don't have to dork around with the finesse business that makes fishing in the wind tough. Put on a crankbait or spinnerbait and let her rip. Buzzbaits too actually. Normally think of topwaters as a calm water only deal, but bass will clobber a big noizy buzzbait in 2' waves.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
