Being that a portables only purpose is to keep the wind/elements off you and keep you warm, where do I buy a license for my boots, glove, bibs, and hat?

Or how about a tax on each hole drilled.

Worried about the lost revenues? I have to believe in this day and age studies were done long before the changes were made. If it is a shortfall of approx 100K then I'm sure the expenses to create and manage and enforce the tags were up around 100K. Probably was a break even price and the DNR is actually way ahead on the deal. Sometimes it amases me how simple people think that revenue works. No thoughts as to the cost to run programs just $ in vs $ out. Really give the DNR more credit than that. It very similar to the vehicle emmissions testing. Oh my the state will lose $8 bucks per vehicle when they discontinue that. There was no gain to offset the expense of that program it was a (huge) drain on the state. It was a quick test to see if it was helping the air quality and it wasn't so that was a no-brainer get rid of that money loser.

Portable houses removed from the lake at night will no longer be required to have a license! Woo-hoo!

So what does that say after all these years of collecting this revenue and everyone saying it would hurt the DNR by not getting these dollars?

MN finally catches up to what other states have already done.

thats awesome. About time they figured that out.

I believe that is the spirit of the law.

It's a way to separate the two different styles of ice shelters...no license required for the portable types that come and go, and a license for those which can be left over night unattended. I think the key word here is "unattended". They want to be able to know who's shelters are out there when nobody is there in case there is a violation or if the owner needs to be notified for some reason or another.

We'll have to wait until the actual wording is approved and announced. I don't recall how it was stated exactly.

I have looked at the new laws passed this past legislative season and did not see this in any bill. Can someone point me in the right direction other than a newspaper? Is it part of the session laws or is a session law authorizing a change in the Minnesota rules? I am trying to find something difinitive and have been unable. Anybody?

I personally don't agree with this decision to get rid of a the shelter license but raise Non Res licenses. I had no problem to pay the $12 to fish in comfort. Last week my family was on our annual fishing vacation at a resort and my non resident cousin who is 16 decided he wasn't going to fish this year cuz he didn't want to spend the money. His younger brother, who is 14 said he might not fish when he's 16 either cuz of the price of a license for a week of fishing. I don't know how much they would pay to fish, but with $4 more to a license, I have already seen one instance when it has determined whether a person was going to fish or not. Why not get the $12 from every ice fisherman cuz we all know that we will all buy a shelter tag while a non resident may not buy a license because of the cost. Just doesn't make sense to me.

So just because we are residents we will automatically have no problem paying for something? Now THAT doesn't make sense to me. mad.gif

Well maybe it's just me but I don't think it is a bad deal at all. I fish MN. only about once or twice a winter and I am from out of state but I have never had a problem paying for it. I have a hard side so I will still have to buy a license. The only thing I hated about the portable license is I love to fish in my one man but because I always wanted more bang for my buck we would always bring our biggest shacks. Well if you want to find me next year look for the one mans because that's where I will be. I would hate to think that this would keep anyone from fishing but I know that it wont keep myself or my friends from coming up. I have rented a cabin on Mille Lacs in September I will be bringing the family up this will be my fist open water trip to MN. You all have a great state and I plan to visit it as often as I can

MN has some of the best fishing in our nation, if out of state people want to enjoy our good fishing I dont think they are going to care if they pay a few dollars more. If someone cancels their trip because of $4, then they dont enjoy our fishing anyway. I deer hunt in MN, and Wisconsin, I dont like the fact that I have to pay $165 for a deer hunting tag, when I hunt my own land there, but I pay it because its worth it, and I enjoy it. Its a choice, you dont have to pay it. Thats the way I look at it.

From the 1st page reading, it won't be in the 07 regs cause it was passed in the last session, so it'll be written in the 08 Regulations that are probably being printed as we speak.

Glad you guys finally got rid of this, one of those things, I really never understood with non permanent shacks.

I am not for the cleaning of fish on a slot protected lake

CrappieAttitude, The way I read it they are eating it on the lake. If that is the case they are only cutting up what they can eat. So what if the size gets fudged a little. This is probbible going to happen on lakes that get gill netted, and i'm sorry if i hurt some ones feelings but that is bull$#it! anyway.

SomethingFishy you make a great point. They could use the money to buy land and then put signs up all over it that say no dog training, no hunting, no motorised vehicles, and so on (bull$#it). I'm sure thay would have used it the what sportsman would have wanted. I do agree with you if you can afford all that stuff another 12 dollars is nothing. It's just a pain in the rump when you need to get a new one in the middle of season but they changed that now. I wish we could vote on line when they have money to spend. They can pick the area affected but let the sportsmen have some say in the matter.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
