Fishing POll

If I had to choose one outdoor activity it would definitely be waterfowl hunting, but open water fishing is a close second. I do like to ice fish, but it is more of a social thing for me. A chance to get out with the buddies. When I go ice fishing I find myself staring at the hole and dreaming about casting a topwater on a calm, warm, summer morning. That happens every time out.

I do both....I think it was Monday, I was fishing open water and got a bunch of walleyes? I expect I'll be ice fishing sometime next week, some place?

Of the two, I believe ice fishing probably gets the nod? I'm already thinking about late winter perch on Mille Lacs, was out to JR's today, buying stuff with that in mind.

Seems I can find more partners to go ice fishing with then I can summer fishing? More stuff to do in the summer I guess?

I fish about 50\50 as far as the time spent on the water be it hard or soft. I like the fact that when you are on the ice you can access alot more with less effort as far as gas , boats, docking fees, ect: I always will and still like the fact that when you are ice fishing you have more waters available to fish then when the water is open. I feel it levels the playing field, when was the last time you saw a guy with the 40....something $ bassboat out trying the ice(sorry fisherpeople!). I like the sport because it is for the people cool.gif that don't have the big $ boats and the rigs to get to this lake or that lake. I also like that Ice is an equalizer for a few of us. Lastly, since we are all equal on the ice, be nice, help others out, be a steward and pick up trash and get those little ones out and interested. That in my opinion is what "it" is all about because if we don't help the little people get started we are losing out in the end, so be it open water, ice fishing or even hunting, get those little ones involved!

Tunrevir~ (p.s. treats are a good motivation for getting those younger ones out!) Just have fun and introduce someone to the things you enjoy and let nature take it's course! Be safe and have fun! cool.gif

Been a died in the wool fisherman ever since I can remember. I don't see one season over another. The climate change simply means a switch in tactics. I fish year 'round. If I had to pick only one pass time it would be fishing. Love the open water and the ice. I suffer a little in the "in between" times. That's where deer hunting and grouse hunting fills the gaps. Otherwise I am fishing cool.gif

I haven't been in a boat for seven years. I fish Ice exclusivly. When you live 45 minuets from the Canadian boarder there are two seasons. Winter, and gettting ready for winter. Tomorrow is my first day on the ice. I've been preparing all week. I've been mapping out the stragey since October. I have been waiting for my chance at thoes pesky Upper Red Lake walleye for years. It is pay back for all of the minnows they have taken over.

I'm probaly 85% Ice and 15% Summer. I fish harder cause short season, 2-4 times a week. There is something special about fish through the ice hole, Gotta love it. Even my little brother got hooked last year, he goes every weekend, he's the last person I'd would expect to see on the ice.

I fish both seaons - I used to only fish the open water but the last couple of years I have been buying more and more for the hardwater season equipment - All I need to do is find a used Fl8 or fl18 and I will be set. This year I already broke down and bought a gas powered auger and a buddy heater I can't wait until I get to use them Next Week! I perfer 4 inches so by mid week we should be set in the zimmerman/princeton area.

I do not ice fish, mostly because we only get safe ice every three years or so! Each year I hope for either a really warm winter (no ice) or a really cold one (safe ice). Each year I get slush and mush! tongue.gif

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
