Movie reviews...

Saw Grown Ups this afternoon. It was decent, not what I expected but it had a few funny parts. The premise threw me off, that these guys get together after 30 years and are all still buddy buddy, ripping on each other...I know I won't be going back to my high school graduation and teasing someone I hadn't seen in that much time.

Part National Lampoon's Vacation, Part Hoosiers.

Saw "The A Team" tonight. Some funny parts, tons of action, a few actors that were fun to follow. B+ or A-. Give it a shot if you want a real big time Hollywood action movie. Full disclosure, I'm not old enough to remember the original A Team with Mr. T.

Inception was really good. I heard everyone left with more questions than answers, but it all made perfect sense to me when it was done. Worth a look, if all movies are just combinations of old movies, this was Shutter Island, Avatar, Chronicles of Narnia, and The Matrix.

Just saw a few new movies. First one was Jackass 3D. If you are into those kind of movies, this one was by far the best. The 3D was pretty good. And the "Rocky" shots were dang funny!!

Also I watched Saw 3D. Gotta say if you plan on watching this new installment, skip the 3D. It is not worth the extra money. The movie itself was not too bad, but it is not a movie that should of even been done in 3D.

Winter's Bone....a movie showing how meth has wrecked families, towns, etc. Good acting, good story...highly recommended.
I just saw that last night, great show. Highly recommended also.

To go along with it another southern movie only set in Tennessee.

"The Evening Sun" Excellent acting by Hal Holbrook and the rest of the cast. About an old guy escapes from a retirement home to live out his life at his home only to find his son sold the farm to a down and out family from the area. Highly Recommend.

I checked out "True Grit" last night. I see a lot of movies but only able to recommend maybe a few at the most each year.....and this is one of them.

If you enjoy Coen Bros movies, you'll like this one! Classic quirky moments that make you actually think before you laugh.

It had an "O'Brother Where Are Thou" feel with a Western backdrop. I really enjoyed it.

I just watched the old John Wayne version again yesterday. Haven't seen it in years. I'm glad to hear the new one is well liked. I hear the new version is closer to the book. I would like to find a copy of it to read sometime soon.

I guess I have nothing new to offer...Went to Harry Potter a while back, thought it was pretty good.

Went to The Fighter last week, liked it a lot.

Went to True Grit yesterday, really enjoyed it. I will have to watch the original to see if the dialogue is the same. I thought Bridges did a great job.

Took Ma to True Grit Awesome show. Disclaimer we are John Wayne fans and to me the original is the greatest show made. That said this show has no reason to be considered less. They are different in there own making and not to be compared. Tender moment: I teared up at the end dont know why but I suspect it was the show gave me a glimpse to the memories that was given to me by the original with the admiration of what was given to me in the present.

Is there any kidnapping in True Grit? Alot of Coen Bros movies involve a kidnapping, don't know what it is with them and kidnapping plots, don't get me wrong, all great flicks-

Raising Arizona

Big Lebowski

Fargo

Probably more

True Grit is one of the most disappointing movies I've seen. I expected alot more out of a coen brothers movie. It's not a bad movie, but I think the Oscar nomination is undeserved when a much better movie (The Town) gets snubbed.

I liked True Grit a lot, the performances were great. Just didn't get blown away by it though. The Town was awesome, great tense action scenes, you didn't know if you should love or hate some of the characters, and just well directed

Watched "Buried" last night in the fish shack. Don't waste your time. Entire movie takes place inside a box (coffin). Guy has a cell phone and a lighter and is buried somewhere in Iraq.

"127 Hours" - Awesome movie. Great cinematography, great sound track, good acting. Definitely worth seeing. Best movie I've seen in awhile.

"Dinner with the Schmucks" - Pretty good. About what I expected from a Steve Carell movie. A few laugh out loud moments. Definitely worth seeing if you are in the mood for a comedy.

You guys liked "The Town" huh? It just didn't go it for me. In that same sort of movie, I thought "The Departed" and "We Own the Night" were both much better movies.

Agree on "Dinner with the Scmucks" very average comedy.

The Town: I don't expect alot from any Ben Afleck movie, so my expectations weren't real high to begin with. The story was marginal, the special effects were good, and the characters were alright for the script. But in the end, it was a Ben Afleck movie. B-

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
