We've made a few changes to the home page. We've added fresh articles and pictures as well as the HSO current show.

We are looking for your opinions.

I like the home page but I could see how it would slow things down for dial-up connections. I would guess a majority of FM'ers have a faster speed connection so it isn't much of a problem.

I am with Gus. I vote get rid of the automatic video. Let users click on it to play if they want.

I personally think its annoying to have a movie and sound play on a HSOforum unless I've gave direction to do so.

I listen to music at all times when I am surfing the web. I usually have my headphones in and I’m jamming to a good song when all of the sudden (after I visit certain pages) there is another piece of noise that wrecks scrambles my current song. Now I have to search for the video/music on the page to shut it off. I might even go as far as closing the page and never go back to it (some don’t allow you to stop the music and of course I'm not talking FM here).

Another scenario would be this: I do a lot of HSOforum browsing from home while in laying in bed and the fiancé sleeping next to me. We have wireless internet and laptops for this. If I hit a site that has sound and the laptop speakers are on, I just made an enemy for the evening.

I’ve been around websites for 10+ years. I’ve been a HSOforum application developer for over 5 years. I created many applications that run on websites and I’ve dabbled in helping develop a few websites in my free time.

If I hit the homepage on a daily occurrence, I’ve probably already seen the video and it’s not necessary to start it every single time I come to the page.

I don't mean to sound harsh on this matter, but I wanted to share some scenarios that I've faced.

Sorry, but I vote NO to having the video automatically play.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of having the videos available/viewable on the home page. That adds a nice flair.

I think this this poll is a great idea and I'm behind whatever FM (and its members) decides. I just don't want to see people bypass the homepage.

It's a great looking site!!! But, I'm another auto load video hater. There are very few sites on my favorite list that have it. Then the first thing I do is click to stop it.

Sometimes less is more. In this case I think that applies. The homepage kind of overwhelms you with ads, videos, articles, more then one link that takes you to the same spot. Its just alot of stuff and alot of it gets repetetive.

I use dial up at home and the video isn't helping anything.

I just clicked on the pause button and it stays paused and says stopped.I can then play it if I choose.

I was torn between either the like or dislike of the new home page. I like the main page and have always liked the main page because of the information, stores & pictures I can see or get to. I voted dislike because of the new video.

I watched it the first time it started and the production is great! I like to have a link that I can click on as I choose when I want to watch a video though. Plus I can see where the speed of a connect could hurt someone when they log into our site.

Your videos are some of the best around. Keep 'em coming. Just DON'T have them play automagically. Can scare the bejeebers out of a guy when checking the site late at night. Lately, I've just skipped the homepage and gone straight to the forums.

Gadgetman, just don't goto the home page. When you navigate to the Forums, goto 'Favorites' and 'Add to favorates'. Then after your dialup connection is established, goto that link that was created under Favorites.

That video being auto played is a pain. Im with everyone else and let people click on it if they want to see it.

I have to agree with everyone else on the automatic video...NO. I also noticed the fish pictures have been changing more often on the home page. Another idea would be to have a picture of the week. Then at the end of the year, members can vote for pic of the year. Things can better a picture, such as a cool sunset behind the angler, wearing a life-jacket, how the fish is held, not wearing sunglasses for the pic, and so on......just an idea.

Great idea Leech21... it'd almost be like the deer hunting or turkey hunting contest, but for fishing.
