Skitterpop
BWCAW northern pike CPR 40". Caught her on a mepps musky killer orange with the line parallel to the back of the canoe. My father looked down at my lure swimming by when the pike came flying at it from under the canoe. I probably had maybe 5 feet of line out at the time and luckily I quickly flipped the back reel on or I am sure she would have broke my line off. My father said it was the craziest thing to see that big mouth suddenly appear and take the spinner. Startled him for sure. Fight lasted 10 minutes and then we beached the canoe and got out and lifted her out of the water, took a few photos and notched the mark in the paddle and let her go. Later we measured out the mark on the paddle with a tape measure. What an awesome feeling. It was also nice to pull the 12" lamprey off of the back of her head and kill it. There was a 50 cent piece size scar on the back of her head from that blasted thing. It happened on the Boulder River as you enter Lac La Croix. ratherbefishn
Deitz... That is a monster!!!!! Congrats to a fish of a lifetime!!! My biggest is a 40 lb flat out of P3. I did catch a 54" sturgeon out of the Croix but doubt it was close to 40 lbs there a little more lean compaired to LOW. I will be up there in a few weeks to see if we can get a bigger one We used to fish Clearwater for carp and pulled in some pigs but never put them on a scale. I am hoping this year to get back up to a spot there and maybe scale a few. Theres plenty of fish in the 30lbs plus and I would bet money the next MN record fall from a fish there agian! walleyejon
70" Sturgeon on the Rainy River. Could not weigh it being C&R only, but it was skinny. I questioned the DNR on the length and girth, and they estimated it would be around the mid 70 to 80 lb range. Not that I'm complaining, but I would have swore it was over 100. hanson
My Sturgeon is a baby- 42" Sturgeon in 4 mile bay this winter. My biggest is a 26lb Flathead Cat from Pool 3. "I Da Man" was running the boat that night. Another biggie is this 20lb, 36" Channel Cat from the Red River. (No way was that 35" Channel Cat mentioned earlier 28lbs. Yikes!) And my last pig is this 20lb, 40" Northern Pike from Lake of the Woods. That was not a tip-up fish. I caught it rod & reel on 16 mile reef fishing walleye. Seeker of Clayface
Quote:65" 98lb Sturgeon last April in 4 Mile Bay! Wowsers, that would break the current record of 94 lb. 4 oz. (according to the MNDNR HSOforum). Nice work!
Wade Joseph
Sandpoint lake, Labor day last year, 42.5" Northern with a 18.5" girth. Didn't have a scale...gonna get a replica made when I can afford it.
CatManLee
That does break the state record, but when it's catch and release only...it doesn't matter. Actually last year there was a Sturgeon caught that weighed over 100lbs. I think it was estimated at something like 117lbs, but not positive. The next State record (That you can claim) will come from the Rainy River/Four Mile Bay area.
Wormdirt
My first time targeting Muskie I caught and released a 47'' Muskie on Mille lacs after only two hours of trolling with a # 14 Rapala. I then believed I was the "Master Muskie hunter". Reality quickly set in after about the 50th hr trying for a 2nd one with no luck. Yup just another outdoor addiction... Captain B.R.K
For me it would have to be a 15# Channel Cat caught on the Red River (border water) of ND/MN. I think that is border water?!? Otherwise my biggest fish to date MN in-land waters is a 9# walleye caught on Mille Lac's.

hanson
Quote: Based on the replies, move over muskie, pike, & walleye, there's new gamefish in town (Sturgeon, cats, & carp)! You bet there is!! We've been fishing channel catfish in the Twin Cities now through open water for over 3 weeks. My biggest this spring was a 31" 11lb Channel Cat. Dare I ask, how many 10lb plus fish have the rest of you caught since the ice went out? A Channel Cat, pound for pound, will put up a better fight than anything I have caught. Yeah... they don't jump in the air and aren't pretty to look at but they will pull like you won't believe. Can you say fun? BTW- Dtro, you posted the wrong pic I think. Your 55lb was much bigger than that.
