Even though it Was a planned busy weekend I was sure that I wanted to get out on a lake somewhere to break the icefishing blues. That oppertunity came on Sunday when I decided to gas up the auger and headed out to a local lake.

Believe it or not I had the lake all to myself, except for a couple of ice skaters.

I was expecting a fairly consistant panfish but which didn't happen but I did catch a 14.5" - 15" walley on a white shrimpo tipped with a waxie! This place is slowly becoming my favorite place to fish!

What did you catch on the "first" weekend of the metro ice fishing?

I iced an 8 lb. walleye this weekend, it might not have been on the end of my line, but I'm the guy who pulled it out of the hole and "iced" it. cool.gif That counts doesn't it?? grin.gif That fat 27" 'eye is still swimming in the Crosslake area. 2 lb. test and a crappie jig/gulp combo. I myself didn't get squat, it just felt good to be walking on water again.

Saturday - I'm speaking for our group -

A lot of very fat walleyes from 26" to 29.5" in one location.

We're talking at least 7 that I counted. Hope to have some of them in a show right here in the forums before Christmas.

The location will be revealed in the Hot Spot Outdoors Show at that time.

Little Bay de Noc (MI)- I fished Saturday from 7:30 to 4:00. Iced around 30 walleyes between 10" and 23", and lost at least that many. I relocated at 10:30 after little success, and didn't have a total of 15 minutes for the rest of the day without walleyes on the vex. I lost 2 30" fish at the ice trying to turn them up the hole, but I didn't want to gaff them because they were going back anyway. One of them was the first walleye of the season! It was neat with the 5" of clear ice and no snow. You could see them right under you while you were playing them at the hole! I also caught 3 pike- 18", 23", 28", an 11" perch, and a bunch of other dinkers. I ended up keeping 4 walleyes and the 11" perch.

It was a great day! There were about 100 people in the bay north of Gladstone, but only one other person within a 1/2 mile, and he was there because I called him and told him to get his butt out there!
