msm1018
I thought it would be mnice for those of us who are shopping for a new auger to come to this thread and look at pros and cons of each auger a person has. so it works like this."Auger name and model"one sentence of a proone sentence of a conthis is what it should look like.Jiffy (older model that is borrowed from a friend)the auger starts well for being as old as it is.(over 15 years old)The auger is heavy and a bit out-dated.please share your thoughts on the auger that you own. Skeets
Strikemaster Lazer Mag Express 8"Cuts very fast and is lightweight.Need to keep the blades sharp or replace every year.
Northlander
Nilsmaster 8" cut. Super light and fast. Didnt need a extention all of last year because the auger assembly is already long. Even on Red Lake. Take the power head off and you have the fastest hand auger made. Super easy to use. Just hit the gas and hang on. I would buy one again in a second. Drawbacks? Pricey and have to send out for blades at Nils. Good thing is my auger is faster today than it was when I 1st got it. Ya I love my Nils. Smartest money I spent since I bought my boat. Cottco
Quote: "Auger name and model" one sentence of a pro one sentence of a con please share your thoughts on the auger that you own. Mag III 8" - bought it USED from Robbinsdale Marine in '89-paid $100 - Starts on 3 pulls- cold throttle, no choke. 4 years ago, adapted to Lazer Mag Auger Flighting-nice-it's got balls! With an extension, I have drilled thru 5 feet of ice with balls to spare! Cons: Blade cover & tether design could be improved. Just wish a four stroke came in the same size. Ole #1
2002 jiffy model 30 3 hp 10" Pros: Always starts right away, never need to sharpen or replace blade, will cut through any ice, new and old holes, D-icer armour so the ice does not stick to auger. Cons: maybe the weight, but that's what muscles are for .
Random guy
Jiffy 3hp with ten inch auger. It will chew throught anything without stopping or dulling, and as long as it's maintained it always starts. Ripped and chiseled upper torso from dragging that heavy pig around. ____________________________________________________________ Strike master Electric w/battery and 8" auger Flip a switch and drill a noise free, fume free, no gas mess hole. Perfect for hard shacks. Drills slower then a gas and you are limited to 25 or 30 holes before before a recharge or hooking up to Aux electric power. Not for the hole hopper. Sounds like the Nils is the champ at this point regarding performance.
