Cheers
Any thoughts on the besrt line for winter fishing . I used a flurocarbon all summer and liked it a lot but as the weather got colder it seemed to be weaker .
frozen toes
I just spooled some P-Line Floroice in 2# on one of my ice rods today. I am impressed with the no memory it has, and it worked good in todays weather. I am still undecided whether I like it due to it is invisible and that light of line is hard to tie. I am going to give it a good workout this week and see how it goes. I also have some Hi-Vis Gold on another rod. I really like that line. It has a little memory, but you can really see the light bites due to the bright gold color.
SUNNYD
Try PLine... They make Floroice, a Fluorocarbon blend specifically made for ice-fishing. Only problems is finding someone who carries it... Take care!
hanson
I'm not too picky about my ice lines. Lake of the Woods & Red Lake are also my big ice fishing lakes. I need a very strong line yet I like a small diameter line too. I've been using 4lb FireLine with much success over the last 3-4 years. 28" walleye and a 40" pike were handled with ease on this line. The stuff is a pain in the butt outside but works very effectively inside a heated house.I just picked up my dad (2) St. Croix combos and he wanted PowerPro spooled on them so I put the 10lb/2lb dia. line on his reels. We'll see how much he likes it. I think he'll like the rod combos more than anything!! They are a far cry from his current ice rods.
bigminnow
I just use the 4 lb stren Ice, works fine for walleye bluegills and crappies. I have used the fireline as well it's harder to use but you will have less break offs even when the ocassional northen takes it.
protrapper
P-line floroice. Best stuff out there. Thorne Bros. carries it and so does the Forest Lake Gander Mtn. The P-line floro clear is also the same diameter as the floroice and you can use that if thats all you can find. Most sporting good stores carry the regular P-line. Guest
I use P-line floroice on panfish and fireline on the bigger fish. Like both, maybe p-line better, but both are good lines.
Deitz Dittrich
I too am a huge fan of the P-Line Floroice...I will give you all a big hint. And I talked directly to P-line for the answer. P-Line Floroice and P-line Floroclear are the exact same product with just different packaging. I like to change my line a few times a winter and like to buy the line in larger spools. Floroclear is larger spool!
fiskyknut
I still use good old Trilene XL, 4 thru 10lb on the LOTW for 95% of my angling.fiskyknut
Neighbor
for mono? Nothing but Trilene XL or XT!!!!
icehousebob
Berkley Trilene Cold Weather and Fireline. I tried Mico Ice and I prefer the Cold Weather.Used to use Spiderwire, but it would ice up badly when fishing outside the house.
EBass
Vanish for me. I do like P-line though to, but I haven't tried it out.

Ishmel
What about the HT Black Ice? Mills in St. Cloud has it for fifty cents a spool (25yds). I assume since it's in the discount bin it must not be very popular, but for that cheap...... maybe I'll try it.
Duffer
trilian power pro and fireline.
Blaine
I'm trying Power Pro Ice this year. So far I like it a lot. On the tip ups, I use Seaguar Carbon Ice.

BigDaddy
Spooled up 2# Vanish on my panfish rigs to try Vanish/floro for the first time.Yesterday, I brought in a 27" pike on the stuff; I'm a believer.
tomfromblaine
Has anybody seen a flourocarbon line that changes color? I thought I saw an ad for the stuff somewhere, I like the idea of me being able to see it but the fish can't.
Lights
Nothing but Trilene XL it does its job just fine for me.
Northlander
I have used the Cajun Red line in the summer but not winter. I also like the visablity above the water and supposed invisability below. I just dont know how invisable it will be in the clearer winter waters.I use mostly Power Pro and Fireline on my jigging rods with a mono shocker leader, usually Vanish or P line. On my deadsticks and bobber rods I run Trilene XL clear in lakes and XT green in Rivers or darker waters. The Power Pro and Fireline are fine in a house but terrible out in the cold. If Im Laker Fishing and moving from spot to spot outdoors I use 12-15# XT in Clear.
Esenjay
tomfromblaine,Berkley Vanish has a line out called Transition, I think that is what you were looking for.
Long Gray Line
Had the Aqua-Vu out last time and the fluorocarbon definately disappears under water. The blue stuff (Micro-ice??) is very visible. The 3lb test I had on was a solid black line all the way to the lure about 10' down.
