Do you ever get a little freaked out at night going to take out the trash or to the garage thinking about meeting a Bear face to face? Or do you keep the yard well lite? It's kind of odd as much as I hunt I don't seem to worried going in and out in the dark but living there 24-7 you never know when their going to be sitting on the deck! It really doesn't bother me too much, but I will think about it sometimes when I am out on the trails by our house. I have come across some fresh wolf kills out in the woods where the blood hasn't sunk into the snow yet and I get this feeling that something is watching me. Here are a couple of pics that I took from the living room in late March a few years back at about 8:00 am. I had heard a noise at about 4:00am, looked out the bedroom window and thought that I saw a fox running across the yard. I went back to sleep and woke up to this when I opened the curtains. Been going up to the northland for near 57 years. I keep thinking about getting some sort of pistol for those kind of reasons, but can honestly say I have yet to come across a situation where I feel I've been threatened to need some sort of backup

Once I was really freaked out when I was looking at a fresh kill and heard a noise that came from behind me. Luckily that turned out to be a turkey vulture. leech~~
I'll have to say for the most part when I'm in the woods I'm carrying a gun so not to worried. But if I live up by Ely and out in the woods taking pictures of Ladyslippers! ⚘ I dont think throwing a camera at a Bear or Wolves is much of a deterrent! I wonder if Foss ever carrys? He gets out there. Edited December 4, 2021 by leech~~ Finns

I don't know if Foss carries. I don't see him and I don't go on facebook so I am not sure what he is up to these days. Now back to more pictures. Anyways who's afraid of a little ole bear! Maybe me? This one I did have to chase off our deck with a garden hoe. He was after my smoker. Popular Post Duffman
This is the lone white pine on the property up north next to the atv/hiking trails. This past summer I was hiking from the other side sans dog and something dark scampered up the tree when I got within 30 ft of it. Could not get an ID from where I was and instantly went into "Where's mama bear mode." To ID I had to walk towards it.................*whew* effin porkie. He gets out there. I think you’re over estimating the danger. Almost like you live in the cities or something I’ve never felt the need to carry in the Ely area outside of hunting. I’ve only ever carried for bears in AK cuz that’s a different brand of bears. Wolves not a bother. I set my deer carcass out on the other side of my shed to feed nature last week and the kids sent me recordings of the yotes that got on it on Tuesday. Very close but no worries. I figure with the snow and next full moon I better get another one out there so I can get a shot. To keep on topic, here’s what’s left of the carcass as of today. And not that I’ve talked to Foss in a few years but I feel safe in saying he doesn’t carry either - unless something changed. Hey now, that's my line when folks ask about solo camping and the scary stuff. Same attitude you best be having walking the cities after dark. Wanderer
Fun to watch even when they become more common. But oooo….. there’s over a couple hundred French windows on the house on that side alone. Canon Guy and chaffmj

A drawing of a fox appears on the frozen Pitkajarvi Lake north of Helsinki, Dec. 4, 2021. An architect-designer in southern Finland has returned to a frozen lake with a snow shovel to draw a large animal on the ice for the sixth year in a row to create a short-lived artwork that he hopes will “make people happy and encourage them to go out to hike in a beautiful nature.” The size of the fox is about 90 meters (295.3 feet) from edge to edge.
