Good Morning!

I don't get it? The "Good Morning" thread is a sub-thread of the Cooking thread. It is supposed to be a thread where you post about what has, or will happen today. You can talk about anything. If you don't like it, don't read it.

That's why I STARTED the thread....for everyone to chat and talk about anything concerning your day while you had yer coffee. An off-topic mini-chat room, to help keep the other threads focused on cooking "things". Yes, an ulterior motive.   Kinda get everyone in a good mood for the day....and it worked. People enjoy it.  Or so I thought.

Nobody is complaining about this thread.

People (yes, more than just me) are complaining that the nonsensical blathering leaves this thread and derails other threads.  At that point the usefulness of that thread becomes compromised and diminished.  Wash, rinse, repeat.

Believe it or not, I'm trying to help you guys out and offer some guidance or a view from a Cooking Forum "outsider" perspective.  Unfortunately some feel that instead of accepting the constructive criticism they'd rather attack and push more people away.

That's a pantload. When you started your "First Smoker" thread it seemed to me that several people made some very instructive posts to help you get started. Later, it got a little off track but all the information you needed to start using the smoker was already there. Instead of coming off as appreciative you attacked those who had helped you.

The good morning thread is one of the first things I read in the morning, then I'll look for the foods or recipes that people shared throughout the evening. It's a place to say good morning to your buddies, let them know what's going on in your life good or bad and to yank their chains first thing in the A.M. But I guess this isn't the place to be kind and cordial to people. I guess I should stop visiting this page because I still can't really eat solid food with my temp dentures and I won't get my perminate ones for a couple more so all this food everyone posts offends me personally and exposes my handicap of food so I want this page taken down :P

Like I said, you can be a part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem.  Your choice.

Solution....start a new forum... Cooking with friends

this is from the home page from HSO. I'm just a relative newbie and have no say so in anything but the people who do should remember this if it's put on the web page.

A little off track? Lol.....wow

it derailed like every other thread in the forum and it makes it difficult to find actual posts that pertain to the original poster or subject

its proven to be frustrating and people have voiced that they don't like the hijacking

its gotten carried away

That's what makes a thread last, call it what you want but in a conversation do you always talk about the same thing?

If I ask a question I want an answer that pertains to the question not something completely off subject. If I am looking for a recipe I want ingredients. If I visit a cooking forum I want recipes and food ideas, not a bunch of people pandering for "likes"

there are/were a lot of good quality guys and gals on here and plenty of folks that offer great ideas, recipes, suggestions, help etc. and I have always been very grateful and respected a lot of guys willing to chime in and help share their own secrets and tips.

there are many recipes that I want to go back and revisit and its gotten very difficult lately to find anything that pertains to food buried in all of the small talk. other users have voiced the same frustration, some have just completely left because they are fed up with it also.

you have a thread to play, do your thing but leave the other topics "on topic".

Wow, I'm glad I'm not a moderator anymore.  Reb keeps this forum going along with others.  Questions get answered here ALWAYS.  We seem to all get along here and are sharing things plus we keep it on the light side and have some fun as well.  All of the sudden we have all of these aledged complaints about things going off topic.  The good morning thread is about being off topic.  Sharing what we do and sometimes even personal things.  If I'm the original poster and start a thread like Canadian Bacon, it got off topic of few times but the information is there for everyone to see.  I do my best to give the best accurate information I can and I want feedback including if things are not exactly on topic.  Why all of the sudden is it that a couple of guy's come on here and start ripping this forum?  Where were you in the past?  Your comments about being constructive is not how I see it.  Nothing is broken here, and nothing needs fixing.  This is the Cooking Forum not Silly town.  It was fun to be on here and now this sudden negative garbage.  Reb, keep doing the good job that you are doing and don't be disstracted.  this does pizz me off.  good luck.

Couldn't have said it better. If you pull the reins too tight, the horse will buck. Or is it a fartin' horse never tires, a fartin' man's the man to hire? I forget...;)

Works for me Reb.  I have been on a National smoking page for years.  Even there things go off topic.  Why?  Because folks get to know each other and have a little fun but the information got through.  I haven't seen at any time any questions that was asked that wasn't answered.  I put my page on here just so folks can refer to it for even more details if something was missing.  I'll post just like I did before and if something goes off topic I'm not going to complain about it.  There are more important things in life than to get upset over something like going off topic.  Back to yardwork.  Or is that off topic.    good luck.
