Paul Molitor

It appears that the twins will be naming hometown boy Paul Molitor as the new manager. Sounds like it will be official by the end of the week at the latest. I don't have a problem with this choice at all. Although it was tough to watch the cubs sign Joe Madden yesterday. He would've been my dream choice as manager!

I could not see Jim P spending the money to get a proven manager for the Twins.

They can change managers but the Twins will still need to add a few good arms to the staff and a new pitching coach as well.

I do not see Jim P doing any of this. he seems to like to pick up used up players with a year or two left as he can get them for much less.

I wish the Twins the best as I and the wife enjoy watching them but I do not see the current owner spending the needed funds to be better than average.

Hope I am wrong but doubtful.

What does he have to offer that Gardy didnt have? Nothing.....

I really wish they would have made an attempt to go outside of the organization. I don't see Moliter having the attitude or demeanor to light a fire under the current set of players. Not to mention he will also be inheriting one of worst pitching rotations ever.

A manager is only as good as his players and visa versa. Honestly it wouldn't have mattered a bit if the Twins would have landed Maddon as he would still have the current roster to work with. Agree with previous posts in that the current roster needs some strong arms and a good left fielder, the Twins also have to get back to their approach they had a number of years ago when they angered everybody, especially Ozzie Guillen, with small ball. The " Twins way" is no longer relevant to this team as they lack power in both the bats and pitching. The Pohlads got their publically funded stadium and things have gone down hill since.

It doesn't matter who they hire if management is content putting a AAA team on the field everyday.

The manager can only do so much to impact wins and losses. They can't go out and swing the bat for the hitter or throw the ball for the pitcher. Its still up to the players to be better than the other guy.

The Twins keep saying that a certain percentage of revenue will go toward payroll. If lower attendance impacts revenue that in turn impacts how much money is available for payroll. It seems as they get worse and attendance dips they decide to spend LESS on talent. Thats completely backwards. Spending money on talent should be an investment. Spend the money to put a winning team on the field and you'll see fans return and revenue increase. It really is a simple idea and I'm not sure why they Twins can't grasp it.

I like Paully, and I hope he's going to be a good manager, but without talent on the field there's only so much anybody can do. I was hoping though that they would clean house top to bottom, sadly he is part of that house.

Ryan (On orders from the owner) hired Molitor because they can pay him less as an entry level manager with modest raises for the 3 year contract.

As for free agents, look for the Twins to do what they usually do: Let the best free agents sign with other teams and then hire the aged rejects that were released. They will spend some money on publicity selling us on how they have put together the best team possible.

Overall, with the money saved the Polads will have enough to buy a nice Montana ranch.

Whichever one over-pays for them. Robinson Cano signed with Seattle last year, and the Mariners lost 91 games the year before, and averaged 92 losses per year since 2008.

Some will chase championships. Some will chase the $$$. Not saying the Pohlads will pony up for a top-tier free agent, but the possibility exists players would come here if they did.
