Which Way Do You Like Facing Your Portable In The Wind??

I wanted to make this thread a Poll Vote, not sure if we have that option here or not? I've noticed me and a few buddies like to set up a little differently in the wind. What do you guys think works the best?

A. Head on/Door facing into the wind

B. Wind at your back

C. From the side

D. Doesn't really matter

Whatever way the house needs to be set up so it's not broadside into the wind. Bonus points if that means the sled is positioned 90 degrees to the way it wants to slide. I had a one man that flipped over in line with the sled (if that makes sense) I had to put it broadside into the wind, cuz if I put it end on, it would still pick up enough wind to blow across the lake unless I was sitting in it.

If its really cold out, wind to the front.I have my heater in front of me and the little breeze that does flow thru the house then blows the heat on me and my holes. If its warm out, wind to the back, either way I park the truck to block some of the wind.

I absolutely hate having the wind at the front or the sides, especially in small shelters, because then the canvas can bow out partly over my hole and get in the way of my hooksets.

My Father in Law has an old pop-up shelter from the 70's and if we face the wind I seriously get like half of a hole to fish out of, so annoying...

Sure would be nice to be able to use your truck to block the wind 15 or so miles out on Rainy!! This is what brought up the curious question.

I've also always been set up with my back to the wind it just seems the most logical. Well one day out on Rainy we were getting hammered by gale force winds so much that the porty's were actually tipping foward and you had to use your leg muscles the whole time to kind of balance yourself.

We decided to turn the porty's around and try the door facing the wind because if you look at most porty's the back end is pretty much a tall solid square while the fronts normally slant foward and seem to be more aerodynamic.

You'd think since it was pushing us so hard from the back that the wind would of just flipped the front right over but after we got some banking up we were golden, so in this super windy situation it actually helped to put the door facing the wind.

So if anyone is in this situation give it a try it might help. Probably works better on some then others depending the shape of your shack.

One thing I like about the Canvas Craft is the Black shell, it attracts sun/heat really nice. Even in temps well below zero I can't put my heater past low. If it isn't really windy I won't even bother to bank it.

I am a wind at the front facing my heater and I use my spreader pole to keep the canvas tight and out of the way. Usually with a north wind, my back is facing the south sun. Give it a try. I prefer this method to keep the wind off my backside and my heater in front of me, between my holes.
