Vick the starting QB 2014

Totally fits the Purples MO.... Why waist a draft pick like Flonder when this guy will be available. Enables them to fill other spots of need other than the QB.

He might be washed up enough but I'm not sure if he's old enough........

Skills don't mean much when your sitting on the sidelines injured most of the time. He's not nearly as fast as he used to be which was one of the only reasons he was borderline decent, as a pocket passer he is below average.

Why get another washed up QB, I'd rather take my chances in the draft.

The Vikings should consider Charlie Batch. He's old enough and certainly still hanging around in the league somewhere, right? grin

Yeah, I'm not sold on Vick mostly because of his injury issues and aging legs. His throws have been average but were balanced by his threat to run. It's not the same threat that it used to be, which drops down his overall ability.

Although I firmly believe, that whomever the Vikings draft in the first or second round should sit for AT LEAST a year or so to learn the position. Ponder has/had the skills, it's his development that tanked. The Vikings do need a veteran QB for the next year or two to help teach the newly-drafted QB the ropes. There are not enough Andrew Luck's out there. It is mostly Ponders and Lockers and Gabberts

My only problem with that is when they sit behind a QB that has never been good or knew how to prepare correctly. Sitting back and learning from a scrub doesn't teach you much. If you got game you got game, you should be ready you been doing this your whole life, step up. If it happens today or 10 months from now you still have to get out there and play to see what your made of.

Listen to Rogers talk though. He said watching farve for 3 years totally changed his approach to his play. His style between college and the pros has changed and he attributes it to working behind Farve for an extended time.

I agree, most draftees have the talent to compete, but can they make the changes necessary to move to the pro level coming right out of the chute. I think some do and some don't. Working behind someone who is a successful pro and gives good insight will most likely always have a positive impact on a rookie. No different than a college Freshman being a journeyman behind Jrs and Srs.

Good Luck!

Exactly. Want to know the best thing that Rodgers learned from Favre? Not throwing INTs. You can learn a lot from watching a veteran, whether he's a future HOFer or a journeyman.

If stepping up and seeing what they are made of is the ticket, then why aren't we putting 12 year olds in the pros? If you got game, you got game.

QB isn't just another position on the team, it's generally the leader. Asking 21 or 22 year olds to immediately succeed AND be the leader is really tough, especially when the other 52 in the locker room barely know you. It's not as easy as you and most fans like to believe that it is.

Sure guys because everyone has one of the best QB's of all time to have their drafted QB sit behind to watch and learn from for a few yrs. I'm sure a guy can learn the same things from watching Favre as they can with Sage. lol

You really want me to respond to the 12 yr old comment, I'm sure you can think of your own reasons why 12 yr olds aren't thrown into the NFL to see what they are made of, extreme much?

No one said it's easy, it's not easy getting a franchise QB period no matter if you throw him to the wolves or try to groom him. For every Ponder, Gabbert, and Locker there is a RG3, Luck, Dalton.

I'm sure the Colts regret not only starting Peyton Manning right away but also Andrew Luck, only if the Colts knew about grooming QB's. Poor Manning they should of sheltered him some more so they didn't ruin his confidence and work ethic.
