Halloween buck hits the dirt

Recommended Posts

The switch has been turned on smile

Had a slow start to the week, but saw four different bucks today. The first wasn't until 9:00 am. It was a decent 8 freshening up scrapes. Another couple smaller eight pointers came through shortly after doing the same thing. Soon after I saw the first buck chasing a doe around laugh

Then the woods went silent at 10:00 am.

Four boring hours passed until this fella felt the need to add some pee to all of the scrapes cool It was a fatal mistake wink

2:00 pm on the nuts when I shot him. Not a monster, but big enough to take a ride in my truck any day of the week. 17" inside spread with one g2' almost 8", the other was closer to 7".

It sure makes me feel a lot better when sitting all day pays off with more than mid-day squirrels mad

Get your butts in the stand all day tomorrow guys!!

Nice work B-Man! Congrats. Great pic too by the way! I agree with ya. I it pays to sit all day this time of year. Scrape hunting is great now as it seems the seeking phase / pre-seeking phase is just getting ready to heat up. I hope to have similar luck somewhere between the morning of the 9th through the late afternoon of the 12th... preferably closer to the 9th though. lol. I'm planning on sitting from dark till dark or as long as it takes.

How far was your shot and how far did he go? Give us some more details. Love that you passed on 3 bucks before deciding on that one. Several lessons for people to pick up on with your story.

Great buck and great photo, one deserving of your success! But why isn't it field dressed? Don't you care about the meat? lol. You have to read that other post to get it. But seriously, this is a good example of how a deer before dressed can make for an even better photo. And I'd bet the venison will taste great too still!

Very nice deer for sure, as for gutting lol think about the ducks/geese dropped at daybreak only to be cleaned at noon or pheasants in someones pouch sucking up your body heat lol. Walleyes in your livewell in mid-july lol, hey great story and yes they are really on the move right now and thanks for the picture before field dressing him out, your story sounds like most of the does want to steer clear of buck alley for now, bucks are ready willing and able hey it's happening, friends are getting daylight bucks on trailcam now just this week, good luck guys and it only takes a moment.

Thanks for all of the kind words fellas smile I wish you all could have been in the tree with me.

To answer a couple of questions, I shot him in Polk County Wisconsin. The deer are also running hard here in Chisago County today.

As for field dressing, he was actually field dressed in the photo laugh There is a little blood showing, but I try to do my best at cleaning a critter up before taking a picture. His whole muzzle was covered in lung blood, but a couple wet paper towels makes quick work of that.
