Gander Mtn...Brainerd, MN

Recommended Posts

So....was in the Gander Mtn in Brainerd, MN this morning looking to possibly special order a Franchi shotgun.

Upon looking thru the store I had noticed that about 2/3 of all the mounts that were in there are now gone.

I asked the guy helping me in the gun department what was going on...are you cleaning them, going to paint, remodel...etc.

His reply: Ganger Mtn Corporate and Managment have adopted new corporate philosophy. No mounts due to the likes of PETA and other "environmentally friendly groups".

I could'nt believe what I was hearing and asked him if he was serious....he said "absolutely".

I kindly told him to quit the computer search and walked out.

This is unreal!

I know my business is better off elsewhere.

I discussed this with a friend who is "in the know" about what I experienced. He told me this is true and is old news.

Form your own opinion.

Best of luck to Gander. Too bad for all of us.

I don't know how any Gander Mountain keeps its doors open.

I went to their firearms "super center" in Rogers a couple weeks ago. I was looking for a Remington 7400 in .270. I asked the guy at the counter is they had any. His reply was i'm not sure I haven't worked in about a week. Never offered to go look then told me they had that gun new on the other side of the store. I guess anything is possible but I find it hard believe they would have any of them new.

It was my first and last trip there.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. Gander has been in a downward spiral for the last few years. They are now circling the toilet, and they'll be done within 5 years.

They'll never see another dollar from me. Went in last week for camo bibs, coat and some boots. Got home, looked online, and everything was 50% off. Called corporate customer service to get a price adjustment, they couldn't do anything except transfer me to the Eden Prairie store. EP wouldn't do anything unless I came back to the store (two hours round trip). Rather than go back for a price adjustment, I returned everything, and went to Cabela's instead.

They have no selection of products. It's a hodge podge. On top of that their prices are ridiculous. Seriously they are more expensive than cabelas on many many products, if they even have them in stock.

I haven't spent a dollar in Gander Mountain in years, and won't.

what I find really, really, really sad is the fact that todays' society is bowing to all the political correctness mumbo jumbo - and businesses are changing so no one is offended.

Gander Mountain is kinda hypocritical of not having mounts in their store to appease the like of PETA folks...but yet sell hunting gear.

Oh well...we got Cabelas and Reeds among many other sporting good stores in this state.

Good riddins Gander...and shame on you for bowing to the political correctness.

I went into the "Super Gun Store" last week because I put a new scope on my gun with a bigger end bell and wanted some flat screws to put back in the sight holes that I had taken off because they were in the way. They told me that I would have to go to a Gun Smith to get them? I said don't you have a Gun Smith here? He said no. I said you are telling me that you are the "Gun Super Store" and don't even have a Gun Smith on site if people have questions or need their gun fixed? shocked What a joke!

Last time I was in a Gander Mountain was 3 years ago when I was looking for a new rifle. The guy at the counter was passable but they didn't have most of the rifles I was looking to compare. The ones they did have were paired with absolute garbage scopes and they were priced $50-100 higher than rifles with better optics at Fleet Farm.

Right now with where I live I have much better options in Joes Sporting Goods (really good service and knowledgeable staff but a little higher prices) or Fleet Farm (staff won't help on anything except firearms but prices are better).

GM... Your super clothing store... Ish! They bought out an incredible line of stores years ago... Holiday plus. Dick's bought out the marginal Galyans and made it even more marginal! Sportsman's Warehouse is gone... That leaves Fleet Farm and Cablas. If fleet farm had some employees who knew something about what they were selling, and made at least an attempt to re-stock their ammo shelves they'd have something going... I had to go to GM to get regular ammo, 270, 7mm and 308 because fleet farm in Hudson literally had none. Guy said there is none available on the market, yet I went to gander and they had a dozen different loads in each caliber to choose from. I will give them that... Their ammo selection is good. The rest? Again, ish! I try to stay away... Cabelas in Woodbury should doom the GM in Woodbury.

Good Luck!

Ken

When I was in Joes Sporting Goods last week it seemed like they had their full normal selection of all normal rounds. I didn't look overly close to see what they might be missing but the shelves were full. I know for sure they had a lot to chose from in .270 as that is what I was looking for. I belive its a 2 box limit though.

I was at Fleet Farm on Saturday and their shelves where pretty bare but they also have a 10 box limit so with their small selection it can get cleaned out quick if guys are buying 10 boxes at a time.

I stopped shopping at Gander right after they bought out Reeds in Brainerd. Reeds was KILLING them, and it should have been Gander that left. Went in to buy a new reel for musky fishing and the kid at the counter was selling this guy a Abu Garcia 6500C4. First question the guy asked was "Whats the difference between this one and that silver one that says 6500C3" Gander dude looks at him, and without missing a beat says "Only the color". Dipstick didn't know nothing. I told the guy what the difference was and that he could get a better deal at Reeds in Walker. Never been impressed with any of their selections, hunting or fishing. Would love to see Gander in Brainerd go under and have Reeds come back in with another kick arse store!

Everyone should email their corporate office, and let them know how us sportsman feel about that decision.

Emailed them to let them know what I thought. Got a response from the store manager in Baxter, said they have no plans to remove any mounts so I guess you can't believe you read everything online.

I shop at both Fleet Farm and GM in Fargo and I find that the selection at GM is usally quite good. I have compared prices on different items and found that sometimes GM is cheaper. As far as costumer service there is always someone right there to help me if I need it. I like GM's sale boxes, i have stocked on many items that I use at rediculous low prices. Now if they are going to bow to the likes of PETA you can bet that I will be watching and at the first sign of this I will not be back.

I could care less about mounts on the wall. I do care that they might have replacement flasher batteries in the middle of ice season, scope mounts for the most common .22 on the market, or ANYTHING in stock that is in the sale flyer 5 minutes after they open on a sat morning but since none of that happens..... it's been a while since they've seen me and wouldn't go in there for anything unless every other place in the state burned down.

I was in Fargo this last weekend and needed a pair of hip boots. I wanted to get some that had some insulation and were a little nicer. Gander had only 2 pair of el-cheapos in stock. A pair of 8's and a pair of 14's. Fleet Farm had around a half dozen different choices. You have a store right on the main hwy. leading into the waterfowl mecca of ND and you only have 2 pairs of hip boots in the store in mid Oct.? No wonder I rarely go in there.

The Fargo GM is a joke. You can walk around for an hour and pass a dozen associates without getting asked if you need help. Their prices, by and large, are more expensive. The only time they're worth a look is at the end of the season when stuff goes on clearance. They always have a lot of stuff at a good price, simply because people don't buy anything otherwise. Scheels blows them out of the water on everything except, maybe, live bait. If I can't find something at Scheels, I'll hit up The Outdoorsman way before GM, despite the fact it's minuscule by comparison.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
